Music during game play

One good thing about this morning's game was that the arena was empty enough that you could hear shoes squeaking and the players talking.  I didn't hear much music or sound effects during game play either and it was pretty refreshing.  I've been to three games this season so far and always find the music pretty annoying.  It's not pipe-organ-in-MSG bad, but pretty close.

I think the NBA should ban teams/arenas from playing music and sound effects during game play.  They can pump up the jam during timeouts and other stoppages, but it would be great if the only noise was crowd-generated.

Music-Maybe....sound effects-No

I like the sound effects that come after plays… some of them during plays, they can really get the crowd into it. Even the players might feed off the music and sound effects.
But just imagine how tougher away games might be when the music is gone and all you can hear is the crowd booing your players and taunting them.

Maybe I'm old-school, but

I like it when the crowd generates its own energy.

I also don’t like laugh tracks. I guess it’s because I don’t like told what to do. Don’t tell me when to laugh nor when to get excited. If Przy blocks a shot into the upper deck, I’ll have no problem cheering.

I like to get jiggy.

But I don’t like it when the music is too loud. I once watched a suns game and they play music constantly and at high volume. I like to hear the cheers from the crowd with a little bit of pump up music occasionally.

I Blazersedge daily, nightly and ever so rightly.

All things in moderation. Some places go overboard it seems.

I agree with you - I dont mind some of it at certain times, but they do get carried away with it. Way too loud, way too often.

I don't go to too many games, but

I’m more of a traditionalist when it comes to watching basketball… Like you said, hearing the shoes squeak and the coaches call out plays is way better than hearing some top 40 hip hop song blaring out… another thing is the intro’s… Everyone’s trying to copy the bulls with MJ… they are way out of control. Just play basketball…. One more thing… Does Outlaw get tired of hearing the western bit every time he scores? I think its funny but I can see how it might get annoying…

Drum corps

What about the frickin’ marchingband drum corps set up right behind section 225 (Which happens to be my section)? That, imo, is the greatest crime of all. We tested the decibels using an iphone when the stupid drums play, and it’s way beyond the maximum for hearing damage.

I'm amazed the drum corps hasn't been shut down yet.

It drives me crazy, and I’m not even sitting that close. You’d think there’d be a huge number of complaints from people sitting near the drums. I’m surprised some “incident” hasn’t happened yet at a game.

Hit it. Yes he did. Ohhhh yeah.

Seems like

They play to the beat of the drums, literally I saw Josh Smith dribble twice on the snare then on cymbals he attacked the basket.

The most annoying stadium, in terms of sound effects, belongs to

the Ford Center in Hijack City. It’s like the guys running the sound board are all wacky morning radio DJs, constantly playing goofy sound clips and hip-hop/techno samples throughout the entire game. The sound at the Rose Garden can get a little out of hand, but I think the crew running the jumbo-tron are smart enough to know when to lay off the sound effects/music (crowd is really into the game) and when to crank it up (crowd falling asleep).

The AAC here in Dallas

is pretty bad too. Drum corps and tons of music/sound effects during game play. I don’t mind the music at the beginning of the game and each quarter and maybe after crucial time outs, but damn. They get real liberal with the amount of canned sound. Also the AAC has really lame marketing people. For the PSA at the beginning of games they ripped off Anchorman and managed to make Will Ferrell horribly unfunny.

The drum corps.

The thing that really used to get me riled up was the Blazers drum corps. I swear the Blazers have never scored a bucket while they were ponding away up there, with their distracting yammering…

I haven’t seen them at a game in a while. Maybe the Blazers finally caught on to the jinx!

I am just glad

our announcer doesn’t try to start “defense” chants by saying it in the mic the way some of these arenas with bad fans do.

Back in the day, only the bush league, podunk franchises played music during play

Now they all do it to some degree. That’s because the entire league has become “bush league.” PLEASE lay off all the hype and let the game sell itself. It’s plenty capable.

Basketball is the best game ever invented, and NBA athletes are the best on the planet. NBA games are packed with eye-popping plays and, more often than not, real drama. Why on EARTH would you distract from a product like that with cheesy music, sound effects, etc? The NBA is run by idiots.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
