Roy: The Magnificent 7?
Most of you have probably seen these articles (I hope this post isn't redundant):
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=PERDiem-090305
and
http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/mojomike/186271
John Hollinger uses a sophisticated stat to show that Roy ranks just outside a group of 6 elite NBA superstars in terms of his all-around game, and mojomike backs this up while showing several other stats in which Roy ranks somewhat higher (and lower) than the Hollinger stat.
One of the commenters on the ESPN article points out that, leaving aside the question of where Brandon ranks precisely, "The Magnificent 7" actually has a ring to it as a nickname. Even shortened as "The Magnificent" there is no doubting the simple grandeur of it. In my mind I can hear Wheels rolling this one out quite naturally as Roy hits another one of his game-winners. Certainly it improves on the generic "B-Roy" tag.

Definately
I prefer The Natural. While I think Roy is magnificent, I think it’s a little presumptous to use, and it just doesn’t sound as good. Maybe because it’s coming from the National media instead of actual fans of the Blazers.
I kind of like The Natural.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.
I like the Roybot
but no one seems to be on board.
(robot voice) roybot activate game-winner mode… sequence complete
RoyBot
is awesome… But it just sounds wierd saying it for some reason.

and then
like when darius would do the head bump thing – roy could do the robot for like 2 seconds. instant fan favorite.
dig it. good nickname.
I think it was a movie too. A movie with that bald actor who played in The King and I. A western, I believe. Maybe I’m way off base though. I didn’t sleep much last night and my thinking is all muddled. But anyway I think I’m first but I know it doesn’t count.
If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.
Even a dog knows the difference between being stumbled over and being kicked.

And yes, it was a movie. It’s a classic Western based on Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece The Seven Samurai.

I've always been partial to The Assassin or The Silent Assassin
you never see him coming, you’re dead before you hit the floor.
No emotion. No wasted motion.
Bring back the Uncle Cliffy!
I like The Natural...
and Roybot and even The Magnificent (it’s growing on me quickly)…
but I’m partial to Roy Wonder.
Whatever the talking heads ultimately decide to code him as, Mr. Brandon Roy is the man. I am more and more amazed (and grateful) at his game.
Give the man his "M"!!!

The Natural
It’s makes so much more sense.
He makes everything look so effortless.
Likes it’s so err, natural.
The Magnificent sounds more like some Roman emperor .
I don’t like it.
It doesn’t fit a guy who has the words " Be Humble " taped to the inside of his locker.
Roy Hobbs was also the character's name
in “The Natural”. So the nickname fits for that reason too.

I like "Magnificent 7" in print...
but it doesn’t roll off the tongue.
If it weren’t for Outlaw’s highlight music being from a western movie (“The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly”), I’d be for Brandon’s to be the M7 theme song. Maybe the RG could replace “Taking Care of Business” with the theme on nights where Brandon goes off.
Here's all the ones I've heard:
The Natural
RoyBot
BRoy
The Magnificent 7
Roy Wonder
The Little Fundamental
I like Brandon Roids because he's big
