The Mavs' Last Hurrah?

OK, last night's loss to the Mavs was a bummer.  It was pretty tough having to watch Terry's airplane celebration and whatever in the world that thing was that Dirk did with his shorts.  But think about it: when was the last time the Mavs were that excited to beat the Blazers?  You'd have to go back to the 'sheed/Sabonis heyday at least.

Star-divide

I think that says a lot about the rise of the young Blazers (as well as the decline of the aging Mavs).  Our guys are viewed with fear & loathing around the league these days.  It isn't just us Blazer fans who believe this is the last season for the foreseeable future that the Blazers won't be a serious threat to win it all.

Even now, the Rose Garden is the third-toughest gym in the league for road teams.  Imagine the house of horrors it'll be going forward.  For the Mavs to win last night required a perfect storm: practically EVERYTHING had to go right for them and wrong for the Blazers.

So lick your wounds, Blazer fans, and be comforted by the thought that the once-mighty Mavs may have a long wait before they walk out of the Rose Garden with another win.  These two franshises are moving in opposite directions--and fast.

I considered that there might be four meetings next season

But I still didn’t include a four-loss option. Hey, it was my poll!

I currently expect the Suns to fall faster than the Mavs

If only because Cuban is willing to spend anti-cyclical. He has the 2010 All-Star game in Dallas, he wants to stay competitive, he has two big expiring contracts in Kidd and Dampier. He could get something going for two more years until Dirk’s contract is up if he is willing to pick up guys cash-strapped owners want to get rid of.

Mavs have no future.

I’m surprised they were so excited about that win last night.

They won´t be leaving with their tails between their legs...

Spanish cut the ears and the tails to the defeated ones.

With 21 seconds on the clock, after a time out,

Another Roy iso play (with Roy sick, and not getting to the rim at all), then one pass, and the best shot we get is Sergio falling away off of one foot to end the first quarter (or was it the 2nd?), I suspect we lose more than we’d like too.

There went the "best after a timeout" category.

You’ll find I’m usually not that negative…but let me say w/o reservation, that play SUCKED. But then, I wasn’t feeling too perky after Roy turned it over on consecutive possessions. The comeback just wasn’t there in this game.
And either we made Dallas look good, or they’re playing some good ball right now.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
