who is number 5? He is such a nice guy. Did you see how he went right to check on Rudy. He was really concerned! Oooooh there is #5 again keeping them from fighting. What is his name. Farmar?! He is really nice. Is he good? When we got home I put the kids to bed and then rushed downstairs to get on Bedge as I'm still way amped up about the game/assault. She comes downstairs and tries to talk about the game with me. Realizing that she has taken a strong interest in it I listen:
That #5... what was his name again? He was really nice. I like him.At this point I do admit that, yes that was really classy.
Tonight I let her know that a friend backed out of going to the 4-10 LA game with me. She wants to go and then informed me that she is going to root for the Blazers and Farmar. I say whatever. She follows by informing me that she
Now I do love my wife, but can I let this go? See poll or comment below. I'm torn between my sworn allegiance to hate all things L*ker and totally agreeing with her.

dude, you need to train that woman proper,
she needs to be excited about your style, and thats BLAZERS. You need to help her understand, that regardless of farmars “good natured” behaviour, it simply is not ok to root for the enamy. or maybe you can help her pick out drapes or something
Considering many call him a bust and injury prone and never amount to anything. If he plays one more game this regular season, he will have played one more game than any time in bynums career, the one non-playing year excepted. Yet NO ONE in LA complains about Bynum being injury prone, all they ever do is talk about how they can’t wait until he comes back.
I think some of it is that Portland remembers Bowie, and secondly that donkeys always REMIND us of that when they talk trash and it angers us that Oden cant prove them wrong until he is healthy. - GreatOden'sRaven

No doubt about that: As stated by multiple BEdgers in that situation Farmar was the classiest Lakers player on the field
Checking out Rudy just as a fair gesture, and then going over to try and end the confrontation. Pau also went into the scrum immediately as what I would deem a peacemaker and not an instigator, which is something the NBA is looking for when assessing penalties and suspensions. Yet he of course has a much longer connection to Rudy as a teammate and friend and you could see his shock later when he realized Rudy was not coming up again. Both gained more respect at least from me.
As for any chances he plays in a Blazers uni in the foreseeable future: Slim to none. His contract still runs through next season and while almost doubling in salary will still be very cheap at just under $2 million next year. So unless someone wants to give up Rudy, Nic or Jerryd 2010 free agency is the earliest, and likely the Lakers are highly interested in keeping him around even at a much higher price since Fish is not getting younger and his contract also ends in 2010.

j/k my wife thought Farmar was cute back when he was playing day games as an LA Defender and night games as a L*ker.. and I had to put up with my mom giving giddy claps for Gasol in the middle of Monday’s game.
anyone see the NBA Fit special where they follow Farmar, Sam Perkins, and Ha Seung-Jin to some Asiatic island to learn yoga techniques? It was pretty interesting..
honestly.. the small town attitude of Blazer fans and their “hatred of all things L*kers” comes off ridiculously.. yea I hate K*be.. and Phil.. and all triangles.. Sasha makes me sick.. Odom bothers me endless.. yea when it comes down to it there is no current team that I dislike as much as LA (although Denver gets close so times, I’d say I’d punch Birdman if I saw him but i’d probably just say ‘excuse me, giant scary sir, please don’t kill me’)..

This makes me realise why I hate the L*kers better then anything that's happened or anything I've read over the last few days.
First, I’m grown enough, and have observed enuf , to be able to understand most of the consequences of most of my behaviors. PrezofDeath, last night mentioned the basic motivations of man, I was Impressed as he’s still in highschool, and at that age, I couldn’t see my hand in front of my own face. Understanding ones own motivations allows a person to better understand their peers. “the unexamined life is not worth living”.
So consequently, I understand the joy that L*ker fans felt when Magik tossed that rebound up court to let the time run out, or the joy in our meltdown and there improbable come from behind victory. Good for them, I’m not bitter, and honestly, don’t really care. I understand fans, I get it, It’s a great escape, an oprotunity to relive vicariously, a competativeness, or a chance to be great to watch the drama of life played out in format.
I understand the basic essence of dominance, and the seaming need to continually re-establish physical superiority, even when losing, or espeshally when losing by 30 points in a complete blowout. That’s the game, it’s physical, they’re athletes. We all like it when Rudy sais, in his broken english, “to slam dunk on some one is to dominate them, to put point on his face”, so I’m not bitter that those “bad, mean old L*kers bullies” give our boys a hard time. I’m not mad about arizas foul on Rudy, or Odumbs foul on Roy. We’re the new kids on the block, trying to take over, those things will happen. In every facet of life, when one power attempts to overthrow another, it will find resistance, or be outright attacked. I think we have a few more hard fouls waiting in the wings and I’m ok with that.
I understand, to a degree, the small market mentality and the big city ‘tude, cause I’ve lived in and embrased both. We’ve got that “hometown pride” with our beer and music and weed, and they’ve got that whole “Californication” thing going for them. (even though most will never leave to enjoy it) There is a sence of pride that you can seamingly take part in, or steal, that doesn’t really belong to you, when the place you live in is great at or known for something. It’s what we do.
I love this board, becouse there’s a sprinkling of cultured self awear commentes that put the game in a perspective that enhances my own. They drop knowledge that I can pick up. And there seams to be a strong foundation of good ettequette hear thats entirely different from the wastelands of youtube. It’s the internet, but this place proves that it doesn’t HAVE to be the internet. The thing is, that many of us want to have a well balenced view, well cultured appriciation of basketball, and thats great, but maybe we take it to far. At least for me anyways.
I doubt that there’s a single commenter on this board that doesn’t understand that there are infact, virtues to behold in LA and on their team, it’s obvious, there a great team, Farmars a great guy, great. But for me, it’s that rivalry, that homecoming game, that cival war game, THE BIG GAME. That’s why I hate LA, that’s why I mispell Lackers, that’s why the croud is loudest when we play them, and that’s why we never lose in the Garden. If it seams sophmoric, it’s cause it is. I never went to collage, and barely went to highschool, but I remember Cascade, even our bad kids didn’t like their bad kids. It didn’t matter what the record was for either team, they had to be beat.
Now I missed out on a lot of that, so for me, I get some back with LA. It’s what we get up for, it’s trying your hardest, it’s being at your best, and sharpest, It’s the big game. What else are they for??
So to the OP, it’s really all about your style, there is no right answer. If the rivalries important to you, and she feals it, and is down for you, she’ll roll with it. I read her comment, and she seams like good people, and your pretty stoked that she’s good to take on the interest, so your allready doing well. Hope the two of you enjoy the game
Considering many call him a bust and injury prone and never amount to anything. If he plays one more game this regular season, he will have played one more game than any time in bynums career, the one non-playing year excepted. Yet NO ONE in LA complains about Bynum being injury prone, all they ever do is talk about how they can’t wait until he comes back.

wow
I read that whole comment before I realized who posted it.. that was a great post..
you perfectly explain how I feel too.. I’m at that point where I get all sides to arguments and understand walking in other people’s kix.. I can easily turn on irrationality for the sake of being a fan… from fears that Oden is going to be a bust to exuberance deciding if we will win 7 or 8 championships over the next 10 years.. I can join in with a crowd of people smashing K*be for his personal life and his selfish play and still talk with my L*ker fan bro and admit how scared I am when Black Mamba steps up and that he may be one of the five most dominant players ever..
I also get power differentials.. and you definitely see the historical power differentials when you see how L*ker and Blazer fans react. When things get bad, L*ker fans will refer to the past.. Blazer fans are more likely to refer to the future.. But things do change.. 25 years ago the LA vs. Boston rivalry was a joke to Celtic fans.. how can you have a rivalry when only one team wins?
but anyway.. great and well written comment

I’m not much of a basketball fan, but my husband is a huge fan of the Blazers (I do like them too). While watching the Blazers play the Lakers last night and seeing the foul on Rudy, I have to say that I was impressed with how you (Jordan) immediately went to check on Rudy and then went to pull your teammate away from fighting. I may never become a Laker fan, but I have to say I’m now a fan of yours. Thanks for being human and showing your concern for Rudy. :o)

Don't worry, Tweener. I'm here now.
I’ve dealt with this kind of thing before.
Now Donna, it’s important to know that none of us are judging you. We’ve all done things at one time or another that, in retrospect, probably weren’t the best idea. We’ve all felt the allure of the dark side and wondered what life would be like over there. But before you go leaping headfirst there are some things about this situation you need to know.
It may have looked like Jordan Farmar was concerned for Rudy the other night, but that’s not the case. He was actually over there shaking him down for pocket change. You see, Kobe Bryant—the evil mastermind behind the whole organization—demands that his cohorts give him all of their per diem meal money each day or else he’ll never share the ball with them and they’ll never get a single shot. He uses that money to purchase small kittens to sacrifice on his bizarre purple and gold altar and also to supply a never-ending stream of fuzzy yellow baby chicks, which he swallows whole.
This is the whole scam. One player knocks a guy out and the other goes and frisks him while everyone else is distracted. Ariza played the role to the hilt, first delivering the blow and then talking trash to draw all four remaining Blazers, plus three referees, plus every camera in the place over to him. While he’s playing dueling banjos with the Blazers, Farmar waltzes in and pockets the lunch money.
That’s the kind of organization you’re flirting with, Donna.
As I said, all of us have thoughts of doing something wrong occasionally. Sometimes we might even fantasize about it. But when that fantasy steps over the line into action…like, say, posting on a Laker player’s blog (sorry for the coarse language folks, but it is what it is and we have to be honest about it) then it’s time to get help.
We’ve scheduled an intervention at your house next Tuesday. That’s the soonest we could get enough people and Blazer gear together. Until then we just need you to hold on, stay away from the computer, and don’t do anything further to bind yourself to that team. At least until we’ve had a chance to talk, OK?
If you start slipping and find yourself drawn to that site again, just remember: Put down the mouse, return to spouse. Put down the mouse, return to spouse.
Tweener, if you find any purple and gold paraphernalia around the house—pom-poms, trading cards, God forbid a jersey—remember it can be dangerous. If you handle it at all it’s best to do it with tongs and a mask. Better yet, just call the authorities and let them deal with it.
We’ll get through this together. See you next Tuesday.

Oh man, you're bringing a Lakers fan?
And to think I gave you those tickets! Actually, she has a point. Farmar was being a compassionate guy. For a Laker he’s not bad. He’s not jersey popping K*be the adulterer. Going on to his blog, well, that’s really flirting with the dark side. Where does it go from there? And cheering for the Blazers and Farmer? People around aren’t going to notice you cheering for the Blazers so much, since it will be so loud when you do, but you’ll certainly get the stink eye for cheering for anyone in purple and gold. What do you do then? Do you become defiant and root for them more (I am pretty oppositional, so I usually make a point in those situations)? Again a dangerous path. Think about the consequences of your actions before you just jump right in.
