Did Pau Refuse to play after the foul?

I was wondering if anyone noticed that Gasol was not in after the Rudy foul. It almost seemed to me that he didnt want to go in after that play. I don't think Phil shut him down for the night because Kobe was still in there Jacking up triples to try to come back (Unless he was just letting him pad his stats.) But I'm wondering if anyone else noticed this? Is there a website that shows quarter boxscores?

I'm pretty sure Phil knows that Rudy is Pau's friend, and could tell he was shaken by it.

As someone who has seen teammates wheeled off soccer fields on stretchers after landing on their head and unable to move, its REALLY hard to get your mind back in the game. And Rudy has been Pau’s teammate longer than any of the lakers.

Thought this as well.

Pau’s reaction was interesting. I kept wondering what this was going to do to the team. Pau’s the #2/#3 guy on that squad whenever he’s on the floor. If he starts beefing with teammates their chemistry goes to poop quick.

Nice observation

I was wondering why he was sitting….I imagine this was the reason why.

I didn't mean to turn you on

Loved it

when Nic raised his fingers indicating 2wice he has dunked on Pau. Tmundal I could see Phil doing that too, realizing his guy may be to shaken to play with his head in the game, I know the Blazers had a hard time with it.

I loved the visual accounting also

From a dude so raw in summer everyone thought he was D League, to starting in his 50th something game and talking some smack to Pau. Awesome. I am really starting to like this kid.

Phil said

in postgame interview that he would’ve taken all the starters out, but Kobe didn’t want to come out.

by T$ 225 on Mar 10, 2009 11:19 AM PDT reply actions

Didn't Melo get suspended by his team for that?

Granted we don’t want Kobe to get suspended, or even Odom for that matter sadly… we need those morons to beat the Rockets for us.

Or will L.A. throw the game? Maybe they want us the 5 or 6 seed so they don’t have to play us!

Lakers philosophy

Get Kobe more shots! Kobe wants to have more shots than any opponent has points.

SUCCESS!

He did tho...

K*be = 29 shots
B-Roy = 27 points

B-Roy > K*be

I think melo REFUSED to come out

Kobe probably didnt want to, let phil know and phil said “sure go ahead and play”

by moflow on Mar 10, 2009 3:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I think it was two things

1. The Lakers were completely out of the game. Down nearly 30 with 12 min to go mans even if you hold the opposing team to 10 you have to put up 40 on them at the same time. Likelihood of this is next to nil. Sit Pau and bring it in the next game.

2. The injury to Rudy must have been hard for Pau as well. If this is a tight game I think he toughs it out, and checks in on Rudy after the game. It would be no disrespect to Rudy to finish out the game, but I think Phil saw that his team didn’t bring their “A” game despite “circling this game on the calendar.” Sitting Pau was a smart move on Phil’s part as his head would definitely not be in the game in a blowout.

What are you impressions of Roy?
"He's just a very, very good basketball player. Very smart. Very heady. He can do a little bit of everything on the court. As coaches, when we scout Portland we kind of put him in the same category as Kobe (Bryant), LeBron (James), Dwyane Wade. We treat him the same. He's that good."

important to note:

Odom was out for that same period of time..

definitely goes along with Phil’s story

Odom had 5 fouls

I sure he was going ot hold out Odom til half way thru 4th anyways due to foul trouble.

by RaiderVadar on Mar 10, 2009 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Kobe had 5 fouls really quickly in the fourth

Odom only ended the game with 4 fouls actually

If he sat out of his on volition

then more power to him. Being at the game, albeit at the opposite end, I say that Pau was the only guy over there watching over Rudy when he was down.

That is cool, because it should always be Bros (Spaniards) before hoes (l*kers) IMO.

Good catch, I wondered this too

Not necessarily that he wouldn’t play anymore but how he’d treat Ariza after the incident. When Farmar initially went to help Rudy, he gave Ariza a glance like “What were you thinking??”

Yeah, props to Farmar

I was just telling my roommate (before the foul) that although I strongly dislike teh L*kers i actually had a lot of respect for Farmar.

I am guessing that DJ Mbenga stayed in the game as a "presence"

He is a big dude and has a black belt in karate.

Also, who wants to mess with an Orc?

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
