Lakers' Ariza Will Not Be Suspended
Stu Jackson said that Ariza will not face any further punishment following the hit on Rudy. Looks like they're still deciding about Odom, however. He may get a game for leaving the bench.

I guess this makes sense.
I think it’s pretty clear that Ariza was making a play at the ball.

I actually think that it's a fair call
I’d love to have seen him get sat for a few games, but it’s the fair call…. plus I’m biased

agree with Nick
no suspension is warranted
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

I don't know about suspensions. That's a whole different animal...
I just don’t think anything is “clear” about Ariza’s intent to get ball instead of skull on his dangerous swipe move.
I think he ought to be suspended at least one game.
Blazers win BDL 2 on 2 tournament!
Skeets: i’ll close it down now … congrats. you bastards
I don't think it was malicious. It was a stupid play, but I don't think he was intending to send Rudy to the floor.
He was absolutely trying to put rudy on the deck
his hard foul was reckless and dangerous, but he shouldn’t be suspended. F2 was warranted though……
Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game
It was F1 in that he was going for the ball very aggressively -- and the upgrade to F2 was fine when Rudy didn't get up, because Ariza had to be tossed to maintain order...
Here’s his quote again:
“I was just trying to go for the ball and make a good play, and unfortunately somebody got hurt,” Ariza said. “I’m just trying to play the game the right way — trying to give them nothing easy.”
Pontiff of the Pryz for Prez Posse...
His postgame quote makes it all better?
I don’t get it. It’s pretty hard to deny he was trying to put Rudy on the deck. Obviously he wasn’t trying to put him on a stretcher, but recklessly swiping at someone like that is a Flagrant 2.
Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game
Yeah unfortunately you just quoted the most bias guy in this whole discussion.
Charles Barkley is the only guy I have ever heard tell the truth when he is trying to hurt someone, everyone else would lie about it, including ariza.
I like that you are using the definition for a F1 but if he was going for the ball there would be no need to use that force. Just because you make contact near the ball it doesn’t mean it was ever your intention to get the ball.
Also if you make contact with someone’s head like that doesn’t it automatically warrant an F2?
There won't be clean officiating in the NBA until David Stern is forcibly removed by the US Congress in 2013 for fixing games.

Wow....because Ariza says so...
it MUST be true.

The F1 was for the wild head swipe - the F2 was for pulling down on Rudy's arm to crash him.
Look at the tape again – SOB grabs and yanks down on Rudy’s arm – he should have been suspended IMO.

While I absolutely agree with the Flagrant 2 call
I don’t think Ariza should be suspended.
Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game
I'm torn
One game would have been legit I think.
I don’t think he tried to hurt him, but he was trying to foul hard when Rudy was in a vulnerable position. He should know when to give up a bucket instead of take someone down. He also then talked trash about it and called b*roy a female dog donkey derogatory black person.
His comments after the game were a mixed bag, feeling sorry he hurt Rudy, but then saying he would do the same again…
Frye-lock and I'm on top rock you like a cop
You know what this means?
It means next game Kobe will flail into Ariza’s knee, ending his season.
"I don’t have the first clue who he is talking about, because all I worry about is Jerome." – Jerome James, on comments by coach Nate McMillan about Seattle SuperSonics players being selfish.

I think no suspension is the right move.
As dangerous and reckless as that play was, it did appear he was going for the ball.
Yeah because we don't want the next idiot with a thought of taking someone's head off on a fast break to think twice
This is why the NBA sucks and I’d never partake if it weren’t for my hometown team.

Also I hope someone gets really hurt and sues the NBA because that's exactly what they'd deserve

Did anyone actually see the play?
If he was making a play on the ball WHY DID HE GRAB THE WRIST??
He CLEARLY grabbed Rudy’s wrist in the follow through of the hit. It was the grabbing of the wrist than sent Rudy to the floor off balanced.
If he was playing ball then he doesn’t grab the wrist and rudy doesn’t leave on a gurney.
On top of that, his thuggish attitude after the hit doesn’t help his case.
I hope the NBA tosses him for 5 games AT LEAST. you don’t grab a guy arm after you hit his head.
OOOOOH!!!!! That was NASTY!!!!!!!!

I don't agree with it. Think a one game suspension is necessary.
Last year, Al Horford was suspended for a similar situation with TJ Ford, except he didn’t find the need to start a fight.
The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.
Kings fan
Consider the context.
It was a 28 point game at the end of the 3rd—garbage time. No playoff implications for the Lakers either, since they’re up like 6 games from #2.. It happened before with Odom. Instead of seeing if Rudy was alright, he got an attitude, talking smack to BRoy.
What if that were Joe Scrub fouling Kobe like that? A suspension and a fine would be in order.
He could have ended Rudy’s career on one meaningless play.
