BE Demographic Survey - age? Poll
I believe the BE community reflects real life community, people of all types, backgrounds, ages, life styles, ethnicity, etc. However, being an Internet community we are all visually invisible to each other (except for certain get togethers) - that is one of the things that has made the Internet such a sensation. People are judged not on appearance but by their words. I know I've made some friends here that would never be possible in the real world (mostly due to location).
So, one of the interesting things I often wonder is the age demographic of this community, just for fun. I'll be up front, when the Blazers won their 77 championship I was in High School and it's a memory I'll never forget, watching with my parents on TV (no cable TV then where we lived). And I listened to disco after the game on vinyl, ouch, (shout out to KC and the Sunshine Band!!) and boogied in my room in front of the mirror. We may be the only 3 generation BE family. Mom reads, I read, and my son reads. My baby grandson is next!
So, anonymously, which age category do you fall in? Poll below.

Remember when?
I have reached the age where I tend to begin a lot of sentences with “I can’t remember” instead of the previous decades where I began them with “remember when”. I do remember the championship and watching Bobby Gross doing cuts to the basket and Walton hitting him with a perfect pass for a lay-up. Rudy sure reminds me of Bobby. I loved that team then and I love this team now. I am in the around 60 category.
just because there is a mouse in the cookie jar, that doesn't make him a cookie.
Yea
I’ve mentioned to my friends that Rudy reminds me of Gross. Lots of similarities actually.

As my name implies
I am a student at Oregon State, 22 years old.
I’ve been a blazer fan for a while. My great-aunt is a HUGE fan (I think she’s 84 now, and still going strong), and she took me to games when I was little. Lost some interest during the Jail Blazer era, but I have watched pretty much every game while I’ve been in college, even during the horrific 21 win season.
These past two years or so have seen a huge increase in blazer fans around campus. On a game day you will see blazer gear all over, and even on non game days lots of people will sport hats and sweatshirts. Good times.
Me too. It's called life after HP. I'm so lucky. I just got word that a whole bunch of
my old buddies got “laid off” after sweating it out for years hoping they wouldn’t get cut. Working there was making me physically ill and I couldn’t do it any more. I cut and ran instead of waiting around for a severance package and I don’t regret it a bit.

Stinker! However, working there was beginning to feel like a very nasty virus.

Just so you know, it’s not actually anonymous. You can see people’s votes in their profile. Haha now I know how old you are.
yea
but seriously, how many people take the time to look that up? :-)

In one sense I'm like Brad Pitt
I started out old and have gradually regressed. As a little kid, my dad dubbed me “the little old man.” I guess I was precociously interested in what adults were saying and doing. Now, I’m in my 50’s but spend much of my spare time watching and blogging about a kid’s game.

But unlike Brad Pitt, I don't find Angelina Jolie attractive
Au contraire, in fact.

Hey Johnv59! It seems that your story and mine are pretty similar!
I was a Junior at Beaverton High when the Blazers were making their Championship run in ’77.
Music wise at the time I was more into the Eagles, Doobie Bros and Fleetwood Mac.

I think my brother-in-law still has an old Beta-max machine. He also has an original Quadraphonic Stereo (Four Discrete Channels) including a Quadraphonic turntable specifically for playing records recorded specifically for this type of stereo. He keeps stuff forever.

I saw Game 7 of the 1970 championship series against the Lakers
where Reed limped onto the court to everyone’s surprise and scored the first two baskets. That was an electrifying moment in sports. Only Kirk Gibson’s pinch-hit homer in the 1988 World Series against the A’s compares to it.
Awesome
I would also mention Carlton Fisk’s game six home run for Boston in the 1975 World Series.
U.S. beats U.S.S.R. in Olympic hockey.
Walton dunks on Kareem as Portland sweeps the L@kers in 77.
And…
Rudy Fernandez dunks on Dwight Howard in the Olympic final in 2008.
Ok, that last one is a stretch, but who cares? It’s a Blazer site.
When I rule the world, everyone will know how to use Excel.
All great moments, for sure
but today’s sports genre is Great Moments In Sports In Which An Injured Star Player Not Expected To Play Limps Into The Game And Leads His Team To Victory.
Benny Goodman was cool, then he was forgotten
Now, he’s cool again. And Glenn Miller. And all the other swing greats.

Yeah, I took every opportunity to see the best rock bands of the era
if they were within hitching distance of Buffalo: Zeppelin, Hendrix, etc. Saw a lot of bands in NYC as well, at the old Village Theater, Fillmore East, etc. Saw the Doors and the Who at a stadium (Singer Bowl?) in NYC and Jim Morrison incited the crowd to riot — very scary.
Well, it’s past my bedtime. G’night.

Well, I'm not trying to 1-up anybody here!
I do have a lot of great memories, though, as I think back to those days.
Being a teenager in the late 60’s and early 70’s, along with (not enough) sex, (too many) drugs, and (just the right amount of) rock ‘n’ roll, basically made me who I am today. I can’t change that, but I don’t really want to.
Now days my musical tastes are really broad, including jazz, classical, bluegrass, country, and blues. Drugs are in long in the past, and … well, I’ll leave it at that.
Anyone remember "It's a Beautiful Day"?
Saw them at the D-Street Corral in 1972 or so.

I’ve lived in Oregon my entire life and have always been a Blazer fan. I grew up with the Drexler-era Blazers and I often find myself reminiscing about the NBA in the 80s and 90s — NBA Showtime, NBA Inside Stuff with Amahd Rashad and the Blazers classic jam “Bust-A-Bucket.”
I kind of grew tired of the NBA around the turn of the century because I thought it was losing it’s class (still followed the Blazers) but now I’m seeing the NBA making a comeback despite their current financial woes — I’m glad to see that guys like Brandon Roy, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and, yes, even Lebron James are going to be the next big thing to happen with the NBA.

The Blazers will play beautiful basketball.
Brandon will shoot the lights out. Blake will run and LMA will finish strong at the hoop. Bayless will play because we’ll be so far ahead in the 4th quarter, giving all the Jerryd fans something to smile about.
But wait, that’s not all. Rudy will go 5 of 5 from distance. Batum will posterize someone. And Channing will NOT lead the team in points.

Insert Tavis joke here :)
An admission: After the OKC game, I said some things. Stupid things. Things about Nate not knowing how to coach GO. It was only then I realized that I was in danger of becoming that which I most loathe - an uninformed, knee jerk fan who reacts to wins with wild delusions of championships and losses with trade and firing fodder. I will not be that fan. From this point on I will support the Blazers, the coaches and front office wholeheartedly, offering praise and criticism appropriate to the matter at hand. I will never again be "that guy".
