Why not Salmons?
I agree with Canzano, KP needs to make a move to improve the team, THIS YEAR, using RLEC.
Batum simply is not ready for heavy minutes in the playoffs and the team needs a scorer/defender/creator at the 3 in order to win the crucial games after the break.
I have seen a lot of contempt on the board regarding a Salmons trade, but no serious discussion of his merits.
From what I see him producing this season, he looks like a poor man's B-Roy with the ability to score, slash and defend. It seems to me this is just what the Blazers need from the SF position.
So the question, if Salmons will fit the Blazers' need this season, what's wrong with:
RLEC+ 1st round pick for Salmons and Kenny Thomas?

nothing wrong with it at all. sign me up.
That would be a great deal for the Blazers. Salmons is a quality SF.
I’m sure we’ll hear from the anti-Salmons crowd soon enough, but s yet I haven’t read a cogent argument against him, except for the argument that we might have to give up too much.
It would be cool to watch Catfish come in off the bench for Salmons.

Has he ever been on a good team?
We won’t make a trade unless it makes us drastically better. Salmons has the ability to score for a bad team. I don’t think he’s a player that takes us to the Western Conference Finals.
We won’t make a deal just to advance to the second round. If it’s a Tayshaun Prince in an Amare trade, then we are WCF material.
We only make a deal if we are drastically better…
exactly
the sf in our offense spends most of his time on the perimeter shooting three’s, so salmons would not be utilized properly in our offense.
"Howard, he know me" Rudy
I do that deal
Just for the possibility of getting thomas, diogu, and frye all on the court at the same time.
John Salmons is a good player, a quality SF
Is he the best player we can get for RLEC? I don’t know. He’s part of a team that’s D is so bad they make the Blazers’ D look suffocating— but Salmons is probobly one of their better defenders. Does he help our D? I doubt it..
I’m not anti-Salmons but the deal doesn’t get me super-excited either.

Salmons is not the kind of player that will excite you from the outside
He’s the kind of player you have to watch for a few games to get a feel of.

It could be argued he's a better defender than Batum when properly motivated
The situation with Salmons is that he’s difficult to read because he says little. He doesn’t like doing interviews for instance. That’s reallllly obvious.
He was chastised by me and others for whining about not getting enough shots earlier this season (when Martin got the shots instead). I think Salmons is one of those guys who just doesn’t quite get how to frame himself in a positive light, and because I don’t think he cares, he doesn’t realize what he says is usually the way fans have to judge his personality. Then again, I could be wetter than the Northwest on this one too…….
If you ask me, Salmons is a lower rent, less riskier version of Deng because he’s older, and cheaper than Deng is. (Also easier to get a deal done too.) Question is, do the Blazers got minutes for him. It’s not because I think he pouts, but because I think he is one of those guys who does better if he knows roughly what kind of minutes he’s going to get, as opposed to guys who come off the bench and give energy. That is not his strength. Basically what I’m getting at, is that if Nate McMillan is going to deal with him, he’s going to have to layout how many mins Johnny is getting from him. Otherwise, who knows?

OK
Salmons is OK if you only give up RLEC, tho I am not excited about Kenny Thomas. If we made that trade, how long until we had the KTEC? How many years does he have on his contract?
I would prefer the RJefferson trade, if we are going to use RLEC on a non-Deng SF.
Sessions is too good to be considered sweetner
If you remember DAve’s post Falsehoop a couple years ago, try to think of it now. There is no way in Double He hockey sticks would the Bucks deal Sessions right now. He is not Sweet n Low. He’s the cheapest more productive PG in the L. You don’t give those away, especially when you’re in a market like Milwaukee.

I don't think he is enough of an upgrade...
Maybe for Outlaw and change but not the RLEC. I would rather ride the chemistry this season and explore free agency and trades this summer…
RUDY > MJ
As jksnake99 said "Is he the best player we can get for RLEC? I don’t know." Only KP knows
The rest of can only guess at the answer. What we want for what we have may not match up with what other GMs are willing to part with in exchange for what we have.
I just hope that KP is willing and able to pull off some kind of reasonable deal to make us better at the SF position before the deadline.
Outlaw is just not that great at playing backup SF. He is much better at playing backup PF. I am not quite sure why that is, but there is plenty of evidence that it is true.
Letting Trout play back up PF, and moving Batum to the backup SF, and bring in a solid starting SF would go a long ways toward making the Blazers a strong playoff team.

I guess the bottom line is
that if we’re going to sacrifice all financial flexibility, it should be for a player that is probably better than John Salmons.
Ugh
Salmons is a me-first whiner who needs to start, dominate the ball, and get 15 shots a game. If I’m KP, Nate, or Roy, I don’t want John Salmons in my locker room.
Get Salmons if it can be done. That's what this team needs is more firepower. Nic Batum is a situational stopper...

I would do that deal without asking for the draft pick, or I would sub in Moore for Thomas with the draft pick (Moore has a $2 million buyout next year vs. Thomas’ $8.8 million contract).
Salmons is a good player, and the only one we have that seems to be interested in playing any defense (he’s another body that can be thrown at Kobe). But he and his contract does not time out with our (hoped) resurgence, and we have Garcia and (perhaps) Donté Greene to fill the void at the three.
I like Salmons, and I’d like to see him wind up with an opportunity like Portland if it could be worked out.

Moore and salmons would be pretty sweet. You can never have too many serviceable big men.
I think Salmons would do well here. I think KP would pull the trigger if that was the best he could do. Salmons is VERY tradeable too if he didn’t work out.
