Trade would take pressure off Roy (canzano)
The dam is breaking on the no-trade front. First Quick and now Canzano are advocating for a trade. Canzano's piece is understandable due to his history of sensationalism but Quick's piece really stood out to me because of his closeness to the team and the potential damage that could come from his article with relationships to the team. Personally, I think its time. We have great chemistry, but chemistry can't defend the pick and roll or cover people on the 3-point line.

Have to respectfully disagree with Canzano on this one.
But Pritchard sat beside owner Paul Allen on Sunday and they must have seen a team that is struggling to play its best basketball while at the same time being delightfully close to breaking through on another level.
Struggling to play their best basketball? We’re on pace to be a 50 win team with 2 rookies in the starting lineup (Oden + Batum) and two of our key bench players being rookies (Bay and Rudy).
What is our “best basketball” supposed to be? Some people might see Canzano’s article to be one of negativity, but I see it as complete homerativity. Does he honestly think that we’re capable of being an 82-0 team? A 50+ win pace is COMPLETELY acceptable for where we are right now. We are so far ahead of the curve…it’s just not even funny. To be crying that we aren’t playing up to our potential is just silly.
If you want a trade, fine—ask for one. Just don’t try justifying a trade by saying we’re “struggling to play our best basketball.”

Good point.
The team is playing above expectations anyway you slice it. A good trade would just be the icing on the cake that we are about to bake.

Above expectations no;
right on par with expectations certainly. 50 was the magic number at the beginning of the season, and it appears that is still the number.
And it has been a struggle at times.
Still we could wait and hope and wish that our players develop; maybe they will, but if they don’t we are stuck with 4 or 5 could have beens with a relatively low trade value.
I heart taxes.

50 wins was the someone positive expectation of fans here.
I don’t think most neutral observers had Portland as a sure thing to make the playoffs or win 50 + games. In fact I recall most of the preseason polls had them just missing the playoffs.
When you factor in the injuries and the somewhat unrealistic expectations attributed to having Oden in the lineup, I think it is pretty safe to say that this team is playing better than could reasonably be expected.

We are not playing to the full capabilities this team has to offer.
But I don’t think a big trade would solve that (although a minor one could help). This team will not be a 50 win team for long Prez, with experience playing together we will need better records than that.

I think we're a 50 win team for the next many many seasons no matter how you look at it.
I am completely happy with that. If KP has a sure-fire winner, like so many he’s pulled off in the past, I’ll go with it and root like heck for the new guy. I just don’t want to see us go out and trade LMA for Amare Stoudamire and have it completely screw up our team.
Want more aggressiveness? Try less Baylesslessness.

Screw them
Stand pat and don’t get greedy, why give up a few future greats to get one round deeper in the playoffs this year.
We will not win the NBA title this year, deal with it.

"deal with it"
The worst possible way to end a comment. What am I supposed to deal with, the fact that you have an opinion? Who are you talking to anyway? Why must they “deal with it”? What other options do I have besides dealing with it? Who are you? Is this Raef Lafrentz?
Anyway, you sound like my mom, deal with it.

This is an absurd assumption to make that a trade will take pressure off of Roy.
Any moment this team improves via its play or trading players puts all the more pressure on Roy. Roy is FRANCHISED. The kid’s got pressure on him no matter what and this only increases with age and experience. For Canzano to justify a trade for this reason is amateurish.

there is a difference between franchise long term expectation pressure,
and in game up and down the court pressure.
I believe Canzano was talking about the latter.

You all realize this is Canzano we are referring to?
Since when did he start knowing what he was talking about?
If Canzano is calling for Portland to make a trade, that’s as sure a sign as you could ask for that making a trade is a bad idea.

He's advocating making a trade just to make it...stupid.
If the right trade is there then I can’t wait, but there is to much at stake and JC doesn’t even acknowledge that. He just wants something sexy to write about.

Has he considered writing about some of our rookies?
I’m sure the women reading his column would find that far more alluring than trade talks. If KP decides a trade is good, then I will have to trust him. I’m not looking for a trade though. I’m happy with the team being about a 50 win team this season with four rookies playing meaningful minutes. Right now, we have defensive problems. If next year we get bounced from the playoffs because of terrible D, then I’d consider the need to adjust for it. However we have options during the summer, and KP always finds ways to do things I wouldn’t think possible.
I expect bayless and oden to be very good. Rudy will get past his rookie wall, and batum is just incredibly young and playing at the three. Our three does not put up good numbers in nate’s system. Given the number of first and second year players having serious minutes, I can not see complaining about this team as reasonable. Asking for a trade that includes sending any of our young potential break out players is absurd. It is immature to be so upset with having to wait for great potential. (Yes, I’m agreeing with you)

Yes, that is stupid.
dario, right on the money with your comment.
making a trade just for trades sake is abhorantly stupid
but, the super expiring contract is wonderful thing that will not be used to it’s fullest if we don’t trade it.
KP has made wise moves and am sure he will continue the trend wether it’s making a move or not.

We already have help coming
In the form of Webster and Blake. Pre-season Webster looked darn good, with tenacious defense and great off the ball movement (and chemestry with rudy). I think staying pat and waiting for the team to get healthy is just a fine play. Unless KP finds a great deal, and in that case, pull the trigger.

Canzano doesn't understand the window is in two or three years
There’s pretty much no available player the Blazers could add that makes them a legit title contender.

I'm not sure what he added that was valuable to the discussion
“Just make a trade because… uh, we need it and… stuff!”
Roy doesn’t even really need help on offense, as we are pretty amazing on that end of the court— even with how raw, discombobulated, and streaky we can be. We got the pieces there though, in LMA and Oden and Rudy and Bayless and Batum. I am not worried about helping Roy out there, we got it already.
We need better DEFENSE, which is on Roy and the entire team. And there as well, we got guys who should become better defenders. I agree though, we definitely need help there, especially on the perimeter.
But to trade to get Roy some help is silly, since he has that. We just need quite a bit more defense.
You don’t just trade to trade though, and Canzano acting like KP needed his divine guidance to know to make a trade once again just states the obvious. We got nice pieces for a deal, but it CERTAINLY isn’t necessary. We are playing better than any team this young and inexperienced has any right to play, and many of our problems will go away with time.
In the short term, we need better n’ tougher defense, and if a trade can fix that, sweet. But don’t trade just cause you can.
