Trade Drawer 2/5: The answer to three teams prayers
Here's the link.
First of all I'm not dilusional enough to think this would actually happen, there are just too many players invloved. But I do think that this trade works out pretty good for all teams involved.
It all really hinges on wether or not Philly is really considering giving up on Brand and getting out of his contract. If they are then this could work for them.
They would get a serviceable replacement for Brand in Gooden who they could try out for the rest of the year and resign if it worked out. If it didn't work they could simply let him go after the season (I bet they wish they had that option with Brand right now).
They also get a pretty good replacement for Young in Outlaw, another big in Frye, a nice young point to back up Miller (and maybe take over for him if he doesnt resign after the season) in Sergio, and the real answer to their prayers, someone who can shoot a three pointer (which their team desperately needs) in Martell Webster.
That's a lot going their way but it's gonna have to be if they're gonna give up Brand and Young.
Chicago gets the low post scorer it desperately needs as Elton Brand returns to the windy city. Would they take him with that contract? Probobly if they got rid of Hinrich and Huges contracts and the RLEC at the same time. This also thins out their crowded backcourt and still gives them a nice vetran point to back up Rose in Steve Blake. Ratliff rounds out their take.
As for the Blazers, we give up Blake, Sergio, Webster, Outlaw, Frye, and RLEC. But I love what we're left with. I know that for some of you the mere mention of Hinrich causes you to lose your lunch. But I like him paired with Roy. I like his defense, his intellegence, and on this team I think he'll be able to hit that open three at least close to where Blake is at. I don't care about his contract (which goes down every year), it's not going to break this team.
If you don't know about this Thaddeus Young kid you should look into him because he is going to be a S-T-U-D. There aren't many small forwards in this leauge I would take ahead of this 20 year old (LeBron, Prince, Granger). He is just about the perfect fit for our long term SF in my opinion.
Larry Huges isn't gonna help us much on the court (although he can be a pretty good perimeter defender when he wants to be, and injury replacement) but as has been mentioned on this site his contract puts us in the same situation next year as RLEC puts us in this year. A 13 million dollar expiring contract, just when all these teams preparing for the summer of LeBron will be looking to ditch payroll.
The last piece is kind of a throw in but I like what he brings. Reggie Evans is tough, sets hard screens, defends the post well, and rebounds as well as any PF in the leauge. Were not looking for a superstar as a backup to LaMarcus, just someone to do the dirty work for 10-12 minutes a game.
This would be our roster.
PG - Hinrich/Bayless
SG - Roy/Rudy/Huges
SF - Young/Batum/Huges
PF - Aldridge/Evans/Diogu
C - Oden/Prizbilla
Me likey.

You can't trade him...
…if you buy him out.

Great news for Bill Simmons
“See, I told you to not trade for a guy who had his best seasons a few years ago for the Clippers” he will say. And he is probably right. That deal didn’t help Philly at all.

I thought they signed him as a free agent.
They didn’t trade for him.

True. Yet they had to do another minor trade to free cap space
And renounce all their unsigned draft picks. And give him a huge contract with which they are stuck now at least until this summer, probably much longer. In summary, it was not a good signing as it looks now.

I don't think the OP's trade will work
too many players to move. However Henry over at Truehoop linked a Bosh for Bayless and LMA idea that I can’t help but think of. Throw in RLEC and some fillers to make the salaries work and you get THIS!
To my suprise many Toronto fans didn’t laugh this trade out of the water, I love LMA and Bayless but I would have to think hard about this type of trade, and most likely if offered I would have to accept. Bosh is what we hope LMA can become on offense, and just as good as LMA is on defense. This would also trim the pg position to 2 although I would rather send Sergio north of the border than Bayless. (which would work as well salary wise). So what do the rest of you think? Is this a no brainer? Are the Raptor fans just fickle about their team’s best player because they are losing so much?
by usmcr3049 on Feb 5, 2009 1:59 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
I feel dirty...
But I liked that trade as well… I think Aldridge could develop his game on both ends of the court to be better than Bosh (as they have similar physical tools) but it’s kind of a leap of faith (along with a heavy-dose of homerism) to assume he actually will develop that way.
I mean, I love Aldridge… Love him… But if Aldridge + Raef + Sergio turned into Bosh? That’s a steal. The only major issue is if he will re-sign in 2 years. If we could get a Chris Dudley guarantee, then I think you HAVE to at least consider it.
While we’re in the mood to feel a little dirty, would anyone do THIS TRADE?
Of course, you have to consider the following factors…
1.) This assumes Cleveland, for some reason, knows Lebron won’t re-sign in two years.
2.) It assums Portland has a guarantee he WILL re-sign with them in two years.
Would you be able or want to pull the trigger?
I can’t shake the feeling that Portland’s had some great teams that have almost always lost to the league’s best player… MJ?… K*be/Shaq… Isiah Thomas to an extent in the late ’80’s was close… So, would we mortgage our budding stars for the mega-star? Is this a reasonable trade assuming my two points? Is the talent level as good as any other potential offers for LBJ23?
"Now, you take a bobcat or a Jayhawk. You know they'll run if you give 'em the chance. But when one don't run, why, you shoot him and shoot him quick. Raef's my dog, Pa. I've gotta do what's right..." Old Yeller (1957)

Toronto is not going to trade both of their captains..
"There is one way that cutting off trade with a partner could help you," Wolfers explains. "And that's if you're an idiot. If you used to trade a lot with one partner, and they always got the better of you because you don't know what you're doing, then you're right, you would be better off not trading with them any more."

I would do this in a heartbeat
if we gave up Sergio instead of Rex. I just think that Rex + LMA > Bosh despite Bosh being one of the best big men in the league.
Plus, everyone knows a Tyrannosaurus Rex would kill a Velociraptor.

I do like the alternate version
Paired down to Sergio, Lma and RLEC for just Bosh + necessary filler. Bosh is but one year older tha Lma therfore our window won’t be closed longer term. Losing Sergio is better than Bayless in my opinion, though we’d see fewer alley-oops to Rudy. Kaponnen would get a roster spot for the third PG. I like, because it is better to have the two talents combined into one (kind of like the five for one that got us Pippen).

I can’t help but feel like they’d want Rudy instead of Bayless. They already have Calderon running the point. Bayless is a little short to be a full time SG and Rudy already has chemistry with Calderon.
Does that make this better or worse?

RLEC, Aldridge, Blake and Fernandez for Nowitzki and Stackhouse

I think its stacked in our favor. They want to get rid of Stackhouse, not that we want him, but he still plays occasionnally, and he expires in 2 years when we need that money to resign brandon

Brandon will be resigned regardless of our cap situation.

When Oden, Aldridge, Roy and the rest resign in 3-4 years...
…we will be well over, just like all the other teams who have a lot of good players to sign. But when the team is still making money from deep playoff runs it doesn’t matter.

Get a life, TubbaBubba
Your trade proposal is crappy. I feel like barfing now.
We’re not the Suns. There is no earthly reason for us to trade half our rotation. Not for anyone.

Bogut is done for at least the next two months with a fracture in his back, the Bucks are not making an impact in the playoffs should they reach them and are shopping Jefferson and Sessions
I feel a Milwaukee trade could be in our future as rumored earlier. Maybe it won’t happen and there are better ones out there, but I’m fairly certain KP has that deal on his desk to decide. Jefferson, Sessions, Filler (Allen/Elson/or Gadzuric in a bigger deal) for RLEC, Travis/Channing, Sergio.

How about
question: do we necessarily need Sessions? If Milwaukee is looking for savings and salary dump, Ridnour would fit the bill, and would be a fine 3rd string PG on our roster. If we could get Jefferson without using Outlaw, that would be great. And Frye would be someone that Milwaukee could actually use now that Bogut is down. I’d rather take Ridnour than Gadzuric, we’ll need a 3rd PG if Sergio goes.
by BrailleTaser on Feb 5, 2009 5:11 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Sessions has a much brighter future than Ridnour. It's half of the reason why this deal would make sense
by Norsktroll on Feb 5, 2009 5:24 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
agreed
that he has a brighter future — but who do you sit to play him? Does he start over Blake/Bayless? For me, the trade makes sense to have a strong SF starter right now, not another PG to throw in the mix. I’d rather keep Outlaw and take on Ridnour (who I’m happy to have as the 3rd stringer, PT mainly when there are injuries) than send along Outlaw to get Sessions (who deserves time, but wouldn’t get any). Also, I’m not convinced that his sort of PG (pass first, not much of a shot) is right for us. Anyhow, that was my reasoning.

i think channing frye
could be moved to san antonio, im not sure what for, perhaps draft picks or considerations, but this is one move i think is a possibility.
they could use a big man who can shoot consistently, and i think channing can fulfil this role of the bench with the spurs. his defensive shortcomings would be masked better in san antonios system as well.
