Finally!

Skeets is reporting that the NBA has finally responded to what several columnists and bloggers have been calling for over the past couple of years.  H-O-R-S-E is coming to All-Star weekend.  This will be, hands down, the best of the All-Star Saturday showcases.  They haven't announced who is participating, so chime in with your suggestions in the comment section.  Maybe somebody up there reads.  You can throw out a name or even hand-select your own trio.

Personally I think it's a testament to Rudy's game that I can envision him doing well in the dunk contest, three-point shootout, and H-O-R-S-E.  I actually think the latter might be his strength while the dunk contest is probably his weakest.  Naturally that's the one they have him in.

Who should be fighting for league trick-shooting rights?  (No dunking allowed.)

--Dave (blazersub@yahoo.com)

P.S.  You can see and discuss the three-point shooting contestants here thanks to Charles Barkley McLovin.

needs to come out of retirement for this. I would miss my own funeral for a Bird vs. MJ H.O.R.S.E final.

Definitely SHEED

Workin courtside for years I enjoyed watching Sheed chuck half court shots and flings from behind the bench almost on a nightly basis. He’d usually hit one and go running into the locker room with his hand still up. He’d probably enjoy this more than anyone….

So while the Pistons are spending practices doing trick shots...

The Blazers are steadily improving their eventual dynasty….

Worst

Dunk win……….EVER! To not Dunk and win a Dunk contest is just plain stupid. To wear that outfit while doing the same…unforgivable. Well at least he didn’t get dunked on by a scrawny spaniard in the Gold Medal game infront of Billions…oh wait…

As a recent UCLA alum

If Love was in this, he’d win (as long as they didn’t require jumping)

by dprodigy19 on Feb 5, 2009 12:48 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

wouldnt like to see this because he would end up trying it a thousand times

but you gotta know they are thinking about K Love, because of his full court shots!

or Maybe they ask former players to do this, maybe Thunder Dan VS Reggie Miller?

They should have a contest..

where a fan gets a chance to play in it. Maybe have a fan tournament and the winner gets to participate and go against the pros. I think this would make it extra fun to watch.

Imagine how that would be to get a chance to play H.O.R.S.E. against NBA guys during Allstar Weekend. I mean H.O.R.S.E. would be a game where an average guy with a pocket ful of Trick shots could have a chance at beating an NBA guy I think. No dunking of course.

Good point

but it’s not like a normal guy could beat one of the best players in the world at horse :)

Jerryd Bayless = Marlo Stanfield
- Early stage Marlo at this point, but Bayless is the emotionless killer new to the game. He will take over, and there will be casualties – it’s just a matter of time.

exactly , I was thinking of that clip.

hahaha

That is exactly what I would do if I got in the horse contest. Just go for broke, it would be awesome.

I saw a Maravich/Gervin matchup

Maravich was winning that one too. He could shoot the 25 footer with either hand.

i remember Magic wrote in his biography

that Mcadoo would often beat the whole team at HORSE

Kevin Love, Sheed and Rudy

All homerism aside I agree Rudy would be good for this, better than for the dunk contest probably.

by Bskey on Feb 5, 2009 1:02 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I'd like to see Travis in there

He’s great at throwing up those buzzer beaters from half court. He also might be the only player who regularly shoots with his body leaning completely horizontal.

It's about time

I remember watching the HORSE matchups every weekend back in the day. I’d immediately head outside to the hoop mounted above the garage and try to mimic the shots without much success.

I never really understood why they quit producing them.

My brother and I did the same thing

Ran outside for a game of HORSE with all new ideas for shots…..

There’s a couple of YouTube videos of Maravich and others – I found them about a year ago and it really brought back a lot of memories…..

OBVIOUS

Rasheed Wallace – Would be LOTS of fun to watch based on You Tube video he’s creative, good, and has fun with it

Steve Nash – All Star game is in Phoenix right? Nash has always been creative and also loves to have fun out there and would definitely put on a show for his home crowd

Chris Paul – Again, so talented and creative and always has a smile on his face in events like these.

Worried

I am worried that this is going to be boring, and the contestants will have this weird swagger, thinking every stupid shot that doesn’t work is really funny.

Lebron, Kobe,Garnett, that would be one smack talking talented trio going at it.

I try to help with everything," Fernandez said. "If the coach says go rebound, I go rebound. I work for the team.

Love- Ridiculous range and a goofy lummox who is funny in contests like these.
Wallace- Been said
Gordon- Has about a 50% clip from half court, no doubt has other hidden talents as well!

Make it a tournament set-up

Make it the first contest in which anybody in the NBA who wants in can join. Let guys who would not otherwise have a roll in the weekend but want to be there come and throw their name in.

5-man games, winners advance. With 125 entrants, that would be three rounds. 11 games. They’d obviously have to use both baskets and have games going on simultaneously.

With 25 entrants, it would be six games.

I would watch every second of this.

And as Henry Abbot pointed out earlier this week, Sheed doesn’t want any part of All-Star weekend. Guys who feel that way should be at home resting. Only the guys who want in would be there.

Well

Sheed might change his mind if he knew HORSE was around!!!

'Sheed does not enjoy All Star Weekend

At all. But this might just tempt him out. He’s not about all the smiles and work involved, can HORSE make it worth all that?

epic snub for the rookie team.

This has a chance at being horrible

I think the players will try too hard with really wild shots, and hardly anybody will make anything.
Anybody care to guess what the overall shooting percentage is for this contest? I’m guessing less than 20%, which is pretty ugly.

Remember, the YouTube clips have usually been edited to remove the countless misses. Rasheed’s clip with the dual three-pointers was hard to watch because they showed all his misses.

Old Wounds

Eons ago I came in second in a school wide H.O.R.S.E. competition. I learned two things from the experience. #1. Second place sucks. AND #2. Second place really sucks.

I’m just not sure that even after decades the wound has healed. I had to wait until SeaBiscuit came out on video, and I even have trouble with the Kentucky Derby. HORSE? …….just let me know when the game starts.
