Jameer Nelson
With possibly Nelson out for the season, the Boys at PTI were speculating whether the Magic will try and keep its great season and potential possibility at reaching the conference finals (maybe even NBA Finals if they could knock off Celtics or Cavs) alive by possibly trading Nelson for a PG who can keep them afloat. They mentioned Sergio and the Blazers. I am curious on everyone's thoughts on possibly trading for Nelson for next season? Nelson would then be comming off surgery which is a big concern, but he has been named an all-star this season and is a good passer who can create his own shot, Lewis and Howard have been successful with Nelson, think if Oden, LMA and Roy could experience the same success...... I'm a little on the fense about this, but it is something to think about for sure

No way.
They can’t replace him. There isn’t a PG available that fits his skill set.

agreed but
they might decide that their best shot at a finals appearance is right now…in which case they need a better PG through the playoffs.

They would have a better chance to win if they just waited for Nelson to come back next year. They aren’t going to get someone back in trade who can take them over the top anyway.

Depending on what we had to give up...
I’d be for it. I think Sergio is a capable point guard, and given the right system will blow up. But that system will never be with the Blazers…the elements of our play style that are showing through the inconsistency, revolve around playing calculating, efficient basketball (not snail slow, but pretty slow) Sergio would thrive in a much faster offense (that allows some mistakes on defense). Getting Nelson would give us an upgrade for next season at starting PG and move Bayless to the back-up. In that situation we might hang onto Blake for injury protection, and 3 point shooting, or we might not resign him.
That said, I wouldn’t give up too much, we don’t want to toss this season for a future PG who might not recover after a surgery.

Sure Dwight
for Sergio and RLEC.
GIT ER DONE!!
In reality, why would we trade a PG and not get one back? I am worried as it is with only 2 PGs. Sure we could run with only 1 pg is Sergio or Bayless gets hurt but that would not work. Roy or Rudy playing full PG would not work, it will seem so for a while that it will but it wont.
PG is a minor need for us but it is still a need and you do not trade a need and get one back.

No
First of all, the Magic are not gonna trade Nelson, i think you miss understood. What the PTI guys were talking about the Magic trading for someone to replace Nelson for this season while he is out. Lets say they were gonna trade him, I still would not want him. I went to college in Orlando for the past four years, Nelson has been nothing special up until this year, past years the talk around town was that the Magic still needed a point guard eventhough Nelson was here. He is just having a career year I would not bet on him having more years like this. Hinrich would be 100 time better point guard for the Blazers to trade for.

Orlando
should enter the Andre Miller/Kirk Hinrich sweepstakes pronto. Neither (especially Miller) is the shooter Nelson is, but both are bigger and more traditional PGs, which could work well on drive and kicks to Lewis/Turkoglu, and both can feed Howard in the post. No idea what Orlando’s cap situation is, but they have a good look at making a run in the East, but not without a PG.
Jerryd Bayless = Marlo Stanfield
- Early stage Marlo at this point, but Bayless is the emotionless killer new to the game. He will take over, and there will be casualties – it’s just a matter of time.

ask Rashard Lewis
what there cap space is like and he will laugh and laugh and laugh….They are pretty much maxed out is what I am getting at.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

are the PTI boys on crack?
They think Sergio can fill in for Nelson and lead them to the title?

Umm...no.
The poster mis-understood. Mike & Tony were suggesting that ORL might now consider TRADING FOR A PG – as in, someone to keep the boat afloat while JaMeer’s shoulder heals, not remove JaMeer from their long-term plans.
Come on, guys….

Wilbon's #1 suggestion
was Stephon Marbury, after he gets bought out by NYK. He could come in and dish to all the shooters, or feed Howard.
There’s always the cancer issue, but having strong personalities in that locker-room already, ORL would be one of the better fits for him, assuming everyone was on the same page when he arrived.

Well, desperate times call for desperate measures.
FROM INDIANA & TO ORLANDO
PG Jamaal Tinsley ($6,750,000)
FROM ORLANDO & TO INDIANA
PF Brian Cook ($3,500,000)
SG Keith Bogans ($2,565,000)

Jamaal Tinsley would give the Orlando Magic a stopgap at the starting point guard spot for the remainder of this season, as well as depth behind Jameer Nelson at that position come next season.

Tinsley can play and in a way is a good fit
But visualize some one moving in next door with a obnoxious, barks all night menace of a phyco-doberman

Scary thing is
Orlando should probably jump at that, and Tinsley is basically a shorter version of Reuben in terms of behavior

Yeah, Jamaal Tinsley is a crazy dude.
Yet, regarding point guards who’re on the trade market, Tinsley is the closest thing to Jameer Nelson.

I hear that Steve Francis is available
I believe you folks in Orlando know him. :)
Plus, any dollar you pay him over the league minimum, is fifty cents that Paul Allen can use to fix up his yachts.

And if that doesn't work
Sebastian Telfair’s cousin may be available from the Knicks….

On a more serious suggest
The Grizzlies have lots of point guards.
True, none of them are any good, but when the tire goes flat, the spare only has to last until the next gas station.

I watch a lot of Magic games
Jameer was having a great season, this is a very unfortunate injury. The Magic game plan is to plant Dwight in the key and have 4 guys surround him that can shoot the 3. Does that sound like Sergio? Orlando really has no pieces the Blazers need/want. Making a trade just to dump Sergio is a dumb idea.
