They haven't called 3 seconds on Shaq since 1994

Big deal.

Confusion breeds success. If they don't know each other, opponents can't have strategy. GENIUS.

I hope Greg and Joel see what Shaq the Entertainer said afterwards (and Dwight Howard)
“I’m the only player who looks at each and every center and says to myself, ‘That’s barbecued chicken down there. – Shaquille O’Neal, after his 45 point game against Toronto (who mostly played Bargnani on him and afterwards complained Shaq was camping in the lane)”’

so you wrote that article??

admittedly, my first thought of a center that could possibly feed shaq his own words was howard, then I gave consideration to greg, but only in passing. joel never entered my mind, as shaq thouraly owns the VG every time they play. its nice to think its not true, but shaq is a demon that joel myay never be free of.

He is a LOT bigger than Howard

That much was visible during the All-Star game. Howard is athletic, but has less size and width than Bynum and Oden. But I can’t see the Shaqtus pushing him as easily around the way he can Bargnani.

This is why I'd like to see us sign shaq

when his current deal is over, see if he’ll take on a small contract to get some extra rings. He can sit out half the games, he wouldn’t even have to be on all the trips. However he would be a great example for greg of how to dominate. Having him on our bench would also make other coaches far more weary of trying to put greg in foul trouble. Noone wants to put fouls on someone that would call shaq in. They could even play together (oden at PF), when he is knee is fully healed he will be able to guard a PF just fine, and they can take turns pushing people under the basket. When oden has the ball shaq can shout instructions at him — it would be great to see.

I've had this thought for awhile but I'm not sure about it.

I have always said that Shaq ruined Greg Oden’s chance to dominate this year. I know that sounds crazy, and most likely it is, but here is what I mean.

When Shaq was in his prime he pretty much got away with murder. He could push guys where ever he wanted, he could travel all over the place, and he could camp down in the lane. As time passed more and more players, coaches, media talking heads, and fans started complaining like crazy about Shaq’s antics. From what I saw the refs started calling calls on Shaq a little more, especially after he left Hollywood.

Now I can’t remember Shaqs rookie season very well as I was only 10 years old, so I don’t know if he got that kind of calls he got later in his career. This might be where my theory doesn’t hold water. If Oden got away with the same antics as Shaq, I’d be afraid how crazy his numbers would be. But Shaq ruined it for everyone, he did it a little too much.

Now obviously I’m an insane homer who feels the league is always out to get us so I call upon the rational to put me in my place. There all all kinds of wrong in this theory, but I really want to believe this as I am one of the Odensheeple or whatever fatty calls us.

You're actually right in a different way then you intended

The thing that hurts Greg the most is that overtime defenses have learned to be ultra-physical with Shaq. When he gets the ball in the paint they absolutely hammer him now- because just grabbing him wasn’t enough. He was simply too strong. Because he could fight through the grabbing, refs actually started letting some of the physical play go. I hate what Shaq did to basketball as much as the next guy, but in reality he is generally the one getting fouled.

At this point defenses are more accustomed to dealing with his strength. So when Greg gets the ball they attack him in the same way they attacked Shaq- and referees let some of it go, in the same way they let it go with Shaq now. Of course Greg is just out of College and not as strong as Shaq and simply not as physical. Essentially, Greg is being defended like Shaq, but he’s just not that good yet.
