More trade dealine post-mortem: Miami and Blazers talked about Marion deal
"Some post NBA trade deadline nuggets: Before the Shawn Marion trade, Phoenix approached the Heat about the idea of dealing Shaquille O'Neal back to Miami, according to an official directly involved. (The Suns considered moving Shaq because of his $20 million 2009-10 salary.) The Suns discussed taking back what they traded for Shaq -- Shawn Marion (who could have been rerouted by Phoenix to another team) and Marcus Banks. Miami had no interest in reacquiring Shaq. . . . The Heat spoke with Portland about Jerryd Bayless and Channing Frye, but the Blazers wanted more than Marion."

funny - I've often thought that Marion had almost everything we wanted
especially his flexibility on defense. His attitude scares me and his shooting form makes squirm. But I wonder – was Miami thinking that Chalmers is not the answer at PG? Were they concerned about getting any value for Marion? Why would they do it?

His attitude kills it for me.

I was a big Marion fan, until all the stuff about his attitude surfaced in Phoenix.
However he appears to have fit in at Miami without rocking the boat. It is possible that there was more to the story than just Marion’s attitude, espescially when you consider the grumblings coming out of Phoenix with Amare.
Still, I can’t shake the image of Shawn wanting to be the big dog more than anything. That doesn’t make him a bad guy. But it gives me pause in wanting him, despite how much I like how he plays.

Marion is a free agent after this season
Miami probably wanted to get SUMTHIN’ for him while they could, even if it ended up just being Jermaine O’Neal and Jamario Moon.
In a perfect world Marion woulda’ fit us perfectly, but his attitude and effort made him a no-go.

Would he sign for one year for the veteran's minimum?
If so, I’d consider it.
