Weekly Podcast
I had a little internet trouble today so this is later in the day than usual, but here's your weekly podcast with Gavin Dawson of 95.5 The Game, Casey Holdahl of the illustrious Center Court Blog, and me, Dave from Blazersedge.
This week we go over the week's performances, the importance of winning over the weekend, the play of Channing Frye, the return of Jarrett Jack, the big picture in the Greg Oden situation, Nate McMillan's rotation, and a bunch of other stuff. A technical glitch cut out the last three minutes of the podcast, but you'll deal I'm sure.
Download the podcast here or click on Casey's link above to stream it.

Couldn’t Rudy potentially be the guy on the Blazers that calls out Greg to play more fiercely? Once he gets another year under his belt and commands the language a bit better that is.
Right now he looks more like the guy who shakes his head in disbelief or stares when others make brutal errors
Maybe it could come over time, don’t know if he was considered a vocal leader on the Spanish national team.
To that effect, I think Gavin is right that someone nice like Battier or Deng (still very young) or Prince while being a more experienced player wouldn’t really bring that aspect to the team. Maybe someone like Butler could.

a swing and a miss.
Dave saying Bayless is better than anyone out there defensively is just flatly not true. He’s not yet. He gets abused just as much as any of our other point guards. I think its a case of selective memory. Sergio wasn’t getting used out there yesterday, but you mention him as the bad one defensively? Please appropriately place blame on the parties involved. I love how everyone avoids blaming Blake in any way, when its his turn for it. I have seen no one saying a darn thing about him, but he played as atrocious a game as anyone on this team has all year long, yet no one brings it up in the least.
Maybe because Bayless looks the part?
I saw both Blake and Sergio fight harder yesterday to get through and around screens quicker. It didn’t help. I remember Blake had a scene in the first quarter when he tried really hard to squeeze through (against Oberto?), but in the end Parker was switched on LaMarcus and beat him for the easy hesitation jumper anyway when LMA had to take a step back. The two can hit the weights and put in the effort all day long, they will always be more in the mold of a Steve Nash or Jason Williams body type. Mike Bibby max, but the guy is pretty strong. While we can joke that Bayless has pretty short arms, the guy has serious guns and looks like he has more bulk and upper body strength than Roy already. The twin of Derrick Rose, in the mold of D-Will,… I wouldn’t be surprised if he is among the top 3 guys on the team with the most strength in relation to his weight. Combined with his straight and lateral speed he has the tools to fight through screens or quickly get around them to make him a much better defender.

agreed entirely...
but Bayless isn’t there yet. And saying that Bayless is a better defender now by any significant degree just isn’t true.
I know you love Serg
but it’s game 7 of the playoffs with 23 seconds to go, series tied up, Spurs down 1 with the ball.
You’d be just as happy to have Sergio on Parker rather than Bayless?
Want more aggressiveness? Try less Baylesslessness.
Wouldn't hurt...
to try Bayless on Parker at the RG on Sunday… what’s the worse that could happen???
I don’t think Bayless should replace Serge or Blake but in certain situations they should give him a go!

We didn't trade him
We acquired him from the Nuggets for Taurean Green at the last deadline. Then didn’t re-sign him in free agency.
P.S.: Rudy is almost as cheap and same age. I assume that was the reason. He is also still the better player overall. Yet the difference is not as big as one would have expected last year when Wafer was riding the pine.

its weird
after finding out that Dave’s last name is Deckard, it somehow changes my perception of Dave. That sounds like the name of a Power-Tool Salesman who wears flannel jackets under Canadian tuxedos. no offense Dave.
I thought Gavin
expressed some good – and probably on the mark – insight regarding Oden’s persona, attitude, enthusiasm, passion, drive or what have you. There is a real concern here I think. His mental durability might be a bigger factor than his physical durability in determining his success in the NBA. There were red flags in this area during his abbreviated college career, and I’ve seen little to alleviate the fears I have held since then.
He always seems to be in such a funk. I’d love to see him get out of it …… to show some passion for the game and for his team. I wonder sometimes if he might be clinically depressed, although I’m certainly not one qualified to be making that assesment.
Brandon Roy just destroyed everything in his path. There's your rational analysis -- Dave
Also: COMCAST SUCKS!
Well, I am qualified to talk about it...

and I think he needs to keep his arms up on defense.
