Visting with the enemy gives a new appreciation for the "Edge"
So I went over the "Dream Shake" today, in order to assess the Rocket's view of the upcoming game, and the general level of confidence amongst their fans. I don't know if there is just some other blog site their real fans use, or if I'm just spoiled from BEdge, but it's not a pretty picture.
The last fanpost was from 3 days ago. Usually BE posts are measured in hours not days. And the responses were few and usually not very pleasant. (Although, in all fairness, one poster was suggesting trading T Mac and Alston for Baron Davis and Zach Randolph, sigh.) In fact the only post that generated any juice at all was written by the webmaster from the Wizards site making a trade offer/suggestion.
Bottom line is, all things being equal, we have a lot of good energy in our community right now, and historically that has been a precursor to greatness. I like that on BlazersEdge I can make a totally stupid comment, and someone will joke, someone will skewer me, and someone will politely correct my mistake, while pointing me in a more enlightened direction.
And then the conversation will spin off onto tangents, and eventually a day later die off, as it is replaced with a more current and rational post.
It's easy to say that the Blazers have more to be hopeful about. We've been on the rise for awhile now, and we're all trying to decide how far it is to the summit. The Rockets have been rising and backsliding, watching their key players grow older and more weary, trying to tweak the lineup to get over the hump, or even reach the hump for that matter.
But that's a cop out. If the Rockets win this game, they will replace us in the 4th spot. That's home court advantage. That's HUGE in the playoffs. There should be a lot more interest in such a key game, yet as of now, they don't even have a Pre-Game analysis, (For Shame!).
If I were in the habit of hoping for their sake, I would hope that their real fans don't use the internet, or just don't frequent SB nation. But I'm not, so I'll say it's an indicator that we have all the karma in our corner going into this one. Now all we have to do is beat them in a 48 minute contest of throw a ball, through a ring, on a pole. I hear we're pretty good at that.
GO BLAZERS!!!

I know we support SBN blogs
but isn’t there a more active Rockets’ blog? I’ve been there but can’t remember the name

Welcome to BlazersEdge!
Let me politely correct that:
“Heresy!!!!”
The admin’s prefer it when we don’t heckle people with misspelled words.
In response to the OP, I would have to wonder why more people aren’t on the Dream Shake because it is such a great name.

How about a whole restaurant chain with sports moves as the menu.
I’ll have a Dream Shake to drink and, um, can you get the crab dribble to go? I’ll be travelling all night so no time to rest here.

Hi MJM
Cool fanpost bro’.
I too have hung out at other teams’ SB Nation sites and I gotta say none of the ones I’ve visited are anywhere near as active as BEdge. Not even close. If it was a horse race we’d be a thoroughbred and they’d all be broken down mules with fat bloated white dudes clinging to their necks.
Even the Knicks’ site is pathetic. I went over there after a Knicks game one time and they only had around a hundred comments in their game thread. I couldn’t believe it. Maybe they’re just internet challenged. If that is what the Knicks’ site action is like, I shudder to think what other teams’ sites are like.
Does anyone know of an SB Nation site that is as active — or close to being as active — as BEdge?

HAHAHAHA
as active as BE?
Not out there.
There’s life at the bulls, and I’ve seen a sprinkle at the clippers, although that may have changed now. I haven’t been over there for a while, and they’re not doing well. Their future was brighter last year before they made some crazy moves.
The goal is not to be better, the goal is to be the best.

The Celtics have some movement, but they aren't as lively as others either.

ok, speaking of the mariners (OT)
I decided that i want to start following baseball again. I’ve had a lot of fun following the blazers this year, and figure i might as well follow a baseball team, too. i liked it when i was a kid, but lost interest. I was a Giants fan… Bonds, Williams, Lewis, Neon Deon… those days were fun.
Now though, I have no no allegiance to any team. Lots of PDX folks like the Mariners, but I heard they suck, so I don’t know if I want anything to do with that.
What team should i follow.

I like the Mariners because I used to live up there
Your best bet is to pick Boston or New York. Last year there wasn’t a single Mariner’s game here on TV. If you pick one of those team, at least you’ll be able to catch a few games.

Mariners or Red Sox
If you get Fox Sports NW nearly all Mariner games are on that channel. A good portion of the Red Sox games are on ESPN. Besides, they are the best team anyway.

…and reportedly still the busiest SB Nation blog.

I'm worried that the relative success of Blazers Edge reflects badly on us.
Maybe we’re just hicks and don’t have anything better to do?

well
doesn’t that go without saying?

The problem is the Blazers have all these non-BE players.
Heck, some of them aren’t even from Oregon. How, for example, is the team supposed to win with a former Husky getting so many minutes?

As Ambassador to The Dream Shake...
In general your assessment of that blog is reasonably accurate. The 3 primary bloggers are for the most part pretty good at what they do and each of them brings a different approach to presenting Rockets related content. This can often make reading their posts quite entertaining. As far as fans posting comments – meh – there are a few diehards, but for the most part it is a wasteland compared to Blazers Edge.
To those that may have wondered, it was my intention to post a large FanPost last night or today in preparation to tonights game. Unfortunately preparing my taxes has become my all consuming reality, and all else takes second place (or third, or forth…).
