COMCAST: Fix your Audio! (Check Update)

Am I the only one that can hear these little bleeps in the Comcast audio feed?  It happens hundreds of times a game, and has been doing this for a good month now.

Any time the buzzer sounds, anytime the corny comcast song takes us to commercial, and during McDonalds commercials( "dah duh duh duh duhh*&#$hh") are usually the most obvious examples of what I'm talking about.

Now I live in Eugene, so maybe it is different down here.  I also watch the games on 37, not 737, so maybe that has an effect.  Anyway, is there ANYONE else that hears these little inconsistencies in the Comcast audio feed?

(Update, 2/24 @ 12:15) : Like many of you, I have tried to ignore this pitch change thing.  It is not working.  When I try to ignore it, I hear my roomate watching the game in his room and he is swearing because he can't ignore it which means I can't ignore it and thus nothing changes.  WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.  I WANT TO WATCH MY BLAZER GAMES WITHOUT PITCH INCONSISTENCIES!  Ideas??

I know everyone in Eugene has it.

I just want to know if its like this in Portland and Salem as well.

by WISEMAN on Feb 23, 2009 9:51 AM PST reply actions

I get it too, so does my friend

I am in St Johns, my friend is in Sherwood…

It’s definitely a feed thing, not just a local thing.

It is so amateur and crappy it is embarrassing. But, meanwhile, they’re trying to hard-time DirecTV and Dish into shelling out too much money for this piece of crap station? It’s absurd.

by TimG on Feb 23, 2009 10:06 AM PST reply actions

Haha

Yeah, I laugh at them every time. Comcast, what a joke you are. Demanding too much for easily the worst station available to me. There are video and audio glitches that make me believe that a middle schooler is producing your stuff for a project.

It took a while for me to figure out it was the channel and not the just the game or even the arena.

TimG, you barely beat me to some similar points.

by MavetheGreat on Feb 23, 2009 10:07 AM PST reply actions

I live in Vancouver

No beeps on my feed, the only thing similar is on road games the game buzzer often sounds weird. But i was never sure if that was the audio, or just that arena’s buzzer. Then again, I DVR every game and fast forward through the commercials and half-time, so they may be there.

by usmcr3049 on Feb 23, 2009 10:27 AM PST reply actions

I live in NE...

I’ve never heard beeps, but if I start to now I’m gonna be pissed, and it will be ALL YOUR FAULT, NEWBROY!

Just kiddin’. But seriously, I don’t hear them.

They drive me crazy

Especially during music in the stadium, the outro to ads or the ads themselves. Makes me want to throw things at the TV. Good work Comcast, really top notch.

Yes

I mentioned this a long time ago on an open game thread. I suspect musicians are more apt to notice this than others, based on my extensive sampling: me (musician), wife (not).

Unbelievable that they would let this go for so long, although I haven’t the slightest clue how it should be fixed. Just guessing that they have some sort of digital glitch where where two devices interface.

by CatMan2 on Feb 23, 2009 11:47 AM PST reply actions

I hear it every time the horn sounds.

annoying, but I’m happy to be watching the game from home.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

by OCBlazerFan1 on Feb 23, 2009 11:57 AM PST reply actions

I was wondering how long it would take before somebody posted about that.

My wife and I laugh everytime it happens. We live in Portland. The first game it happened, it was funny, but now it’s starting to get a little pathetic.

by fart on Feb 23, 2009 12:00 PM PST reply actions

Not so much a *beep*

but more like the sound of someone putting their finger on a turntable or tape head for just a second. A slowing down effect, if you will.

It is like there is something wrong with the tape, but I don’t think tape is involved in something that is delayed what… like 5 seconds?

I was wondering when this was going to warrant a fanpost… just didn’t want to be that guy myself!

by hiccough on Feb 23, 2009 12:28 PM PST reply actions

I wouldn't call 'em bleeps

sounds like a warp in the audio to me. I hear during commercials too. I’m not certain if its across the Comcast board, or just during PTB games, but it is annoying.

Same here

I live in Corvallis and the sound warping happens. Always happens in the blazer music and the les schwab commercial where they’re panning around the car, cam’t remember any other ones off the top of my head.

I live in Portland and have the same issue

At first I thought it was my TV, since it’s old and very cheap, but it only happens on channel 37. It seems like it’s a problem with certain pitches. Whenever the arena buzzer sounds or there’s music, you can hear the little pitch shifts. At first my roommate and I laughed at it, but it’s been around for a while now, and we pretty much just ignore it.

by driver8x on Feb 23, 2009 12:31 PM PST reply actions

Sometimes it still makes us laugh

but mostly it’s just baffling.

I remember the first time it happened was during an away game and we thought it had something to do with the feed from the truck or some difficulties with the off site broadcasting, but since then it’s been every game + commercials. Pretty much any time the horn sounds there’s a warp-y effect in it.

I watch 37, ‘cause my tv’s just not that fancy.

by still.i.rise on Feb 23, 2009 1:53 PM PST reply actions

Luckliy it doesn't happen on HD broadcasts but...

Yes it annoying as all get out on channel 37 and since I get it in Kelso combined with the other people I would venture to say it’s a problem for everyone who gets the channel

Rooo-D!

by truls on Feb 23, 2009 2:33 PM PST reply actions

I get it in HD too...

It doesn’t bother me as much as the volume disparity from the game to commercials. The commercials are soooo loud.

yes this is really lame

i pay $60 a month for cable/internet and this unwanted sporadic modulation in pitch is the bane of my blazer enjoying existence, i’ve complained to casey at blazers.com about this but something tells my i actually should call comcast, trouble is, you have to wait an hour until you can talk with a human, who’s hands are tied because they are just pawns somewhere in the midwest in a game none of us can change or fully understand.

YouTube

When I say there’s a game on, my girlfriend always asks me “YouTube?”, meaning non-HD CSN. Seriously, do they hold up an LG cellphone in movie mode?

by Engineering Problem on Feb 23, 2009 10:09 PM PST reply actions

I know most of this has already been said but I feel so much better when I can air my frustrations to Blazers Edge Support Group...

Reasons I hate Comcast:

1. The obvious hostage situation.
2. I pay $6/month for their “Sports Entertainment Package” yet that want to force me to upgrade my overall package ($15/month more) to Digital Classic just to get MLB Network. NBA, NHL, NFL are all included in the SE Package yet MLB somehow doesn’t get included?
3. No NBAtv in HD or any League Pass games in HD despite their advertising claiming that “many games are in HD.” I called them about this and they claim its the NBA’s fault. Really?
4. The Comcast SportsNet channel is by far the worst video and audio quality of any NBA team’s home network. I’ve seen them all on League Pass and nothing compares to the visual vomit CSN puts on our airwaves. It’s an embarrassment to our team and our city.
5. They destroy you once your “promotional rate” expires. My monthly cable/internet is going up 60%.

I will now step down for my perch and stop shouting.

Play Ben G.

Well, it's really too bad that Blazers Edge can't have "sticky" posts.

This fanpost has accumulated 20 recs after less than 30 hours, but is no longer in the realm of Recommended Fanposts, which means that the window of opportunity for somebody in the Blazers organization to see this and act on it was extremely narrow. Nice try, folks.

Comcast is having even worse sound problems tonight then usual. The sound blip is occurring at least every 20 seconds. On top of that they keep not turning the sound on when they switch to something new, like the first 5 seconds of the one-on-one with Nate and coming back from commercials. ARGH

Paul Allen owns Charter Cable, why doesn’t he pick up the comcast deal? If he won’t pick up the blazer package I’m going to burn down the comcast building. It’s pretty close to where I live in tigard and I work graveyard so nobody would see me cause it’s dark at night.

I’m going to get my stapler back too.

I HATE THIS TOO!

I never noticed before, bc i usually watch it on HD chan 737, but the rockets game tonight was on 37 and I heard it every 10 minutes probably. It sounds to me like the audio is either being sped up or slowed down because the pitch of some sustained noises sound like they being bent. so annoying…
