2/19 Junk Drawer - Blazersedge Taboo - Nothing new, I just changed the poll
Dave and Ben should be busy chasing down trade rumors so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to discuss one of Blazer’s Edge’s taboos, specifically the taboo subject of banning. I fully understand why both of them do not discuss the details with us. Ben jokes a little about deleting bad comments and the most churlish trolls, but like Dave, he for the most part keeps it under wraps.
I for one love banning and I always get a kick out of it when someone gets banned. I know tominhawaii used to bait people on the verge of melting down into cussing, in hopes that it got them banned. Heck, he even wrote inflammatory things on Blog a Bull just to lure ornery Blazers fans out for Matt to ban. Matt at Blog a Bull is bantastic.
I also feel that Dave and Ben are pretty diplomatic when it comes to banning. They seem to give fair warning and even let some folks stick around that if put to a vote, others here would have banned a long time ago. I often wonder how some folks manage to stick around for as long as they do. I know if I had administrative rights to Blazers Edge, that I would ban a handful of people just because I disagree with them. I would also ban anyone who typed "first" after a post for a week, just to teach them a lesson.
Another thing that fascinates me are the posters who seem to disappear in the night. I wonder if TheGreatDane17 was banned or simply spilled soda on his laptop. It is thoughts like those that keep me awake in the afternoon.
So, what do you think about banning?
Is there anyone that was banned that you wish could come back?
Is there anyone here that you wish was banned? (Maybe you shouldn’t answer that unless you want them to cuss at you and get banned.)
Have you ever been banned from one of the other blogs?
{Update} I'm testing something out her so I made a new poll. That last one was pretty lame. I was experimenting on how many choices you could make and I think it is endless.

Why is the Blazers site so lame?
I’ve tried twice to buy tickets to the March 4th game and the webpage won’t let me. Yesterday it crashed and today it tells me that my Blazer’s webpage address does not match my credit card address. I have verified both and they do match. I tried to change the format of my apartment number on the Blazer’s website and I have to call a 503 number to get it done.
"I determined early in my career, the only important statistic in basketball is the final score." Bill Russell
That has happened to me a few times. It gets really annoying when you're trying to get tickets to a game that has a limited amount of seats left, only for the site to crash.
No kidding
Happened to me as well. It’s like they’re advertising for Stubhub or scalpers.com. Excuse me, Mr. Allen, you gots connections — get it figured out, fer cryin’ out loud.

otherwise I might STILL be banned. :(

Re: being banned
I figure nothing I say, within reason, can ever get me banned knowing TominHawaii wrote some pretty borderline stuff that was acceptable. So he was my proverbial re-drawn line in the sand I dare to cross.
I’ve made some comments that haven’t been deemed entirely charming, in fact, Dave recently referred to one of my posts that raised an eyebrow as “mean-spirited”, but that alone cant be sufficient reason to get banned.

Blazers Edge is Lame!
Actually Blazer’s Edge is cool. It’s others I have issues with. I read about half the trade stuff and tried not to complain too much. I had to deal with trade stuff popping up in almost every thread, and I had to suffer through about a dozen posts a day about pointless trades. I might have gotten a little petulant every now and again and for the most part stuck to my guns of not wanting a trade.
Fans got their trade, even though it we won’t see the effect of it on the court this season, I’m sure it will lead to the Blazers getting better. Folks just need to accept the fact that KP chose to agree with me and a few others and stop bashing him. Some fans are complaining about not making the playoffs and the Blazers have only played one game since the all star game.
Some fans need to suck it up. KP did not do what they wanted done and they need to get over it. They cannot complain about the Blazers not making the playoffs until the Blazers are mathematically eliminated, fans have no right to complain until then.
It is time to go back to talking about the Blazers, Blazer’s games, and the playoffs. Oh, and American Idol.

thats the site that Chad Ford had before selling it to espn, anyways they did not ban people but they would put a pole up on the front page and let the fans vote and comment about some of the more boisterous bloggers. Some of the poles they had would just downright embarrass the offender(accused offender)some of the poles would chase the accused violator off the site entirely. The very least the pole would do is validate a posters standing on the site, or let them know they had no credibility about what they were ranting about in general.

odd hawaiian cloning experiment gone awry

and I think they were minions banning sidekicks - - no cronies were sighted

no lackey's are below minions.
think Captian Chaos and his minions….
1. (noun) minion
a servile or fawning dependant
2. (noun) sycophant, toady, crawler, lackey, @$$-kisser
a person who tries to please someone in order to gain a personal advantage

tho on closer inspections, BE - - -cronies . . . CelticsWhatever - - -minions
1. (noun) buddy, brother, chum, crony, pal, sidekick
a close friend who accompanies his buddies in their activities

Then why did both agree that Rafer Alston is a better player than Jameer Nelson, so Orlando is now better than Cleveland and Boston combined
Brandon is one of those quiet assassins. - Chris Paul

I didn’t hear that, turrible.

or like the Patty Duke twins…? or do you mean somewhat equivalent threats on the court

Same style of game, same quality of players, gonna be one of those linked pairages for their entire careers...
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
isn't Williams going to be linked with Paul
a whole lot more then Roy?

by WhiteRabbit on Feb 19, 2009 10:34 PM PST up reply actions
Dunno. I don't see a similarity there at all...
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
I guess Roy is a little bigger than Williams, which is why they play different positions...
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
Williams plays like a grandma, too, though...
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
Paul and Williams will always be linked
because the Jazz picked Deron over Chris.
Kind of like the Durant/Oden scenario. Different players, but in the same draft.

but Williams/Paul
have the extra bonus of playing the same position

Jazz win
Jazz within 2 games of Portland. Jazz and Suns not going away. Maybe Houston will.

I thought NOLA
was trying to go away, but then OKC had to go and give Chandler back

well, in the short term NOLA would have gotten better
Chandler is still hurt and Wilcox and Smith are serviceable.

Despite being 4th in the West, there's still a chance that we might miss the playoffs. We still haven't proven that we can consistantly win games this season.
I read one post today where a happy fan was going off becasue the Blazers are 7-3 over the last 10 games, which is true...
……………………. and another by a grumpy fan which notes the Blazers have sucked for 6 of the last 7 games, which is also true.
I do not like our chances with Channing Frye playing Oden minutes.
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
really id say winning 50 percent more then losing
is consistent enough for me, but my math is fuzzy. I haven’t worried about getting to the playoffs in a month or two. Call me crazy, now in the playoffs I am worried but then I get images of the Garden hosting a playoff game and our distraught cousins to the north being able to hear the noise from up I5 and I am ok again. Which is funny because I am generally not a positive person.

the Jazz win makes me incrementally more nervous about the playoffs
a solid win by Portland tomorrow would make me feel a little better.
Boomshakalaka
lol
I know you are serious but its still funny. We’re 3 games up on Phoenix and Houston is without TMac for the rest of the season, to name just a couple of the things in our favor. The “no hope” stance is hilarious, even though you are serious.
Boomshakalaka
It's a matter of getting Frye off the court as fast as possible. It BURNS me that he's playing and Rex is racking DNP-CDs...
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
I tend to agree
but how is he supposed to take up big man minutes?

bayless at the 4
he seemed to guard dirk all right when lamarcus was busy overzealously switching on screens! :-)
obviously playing Frye as our backup C is a bad situation to be in
If its only 2 more games, we’ll survive though.
Bayless is not better than Sergio right now. He just isn’t. Bayless has a lot more upside, but Sergio does the things we need from our backup PG (ie passing) better right now.
Boomshakalaka
true
and that would be bad. It would increase the odds of us missing the playoffs, no doubt about it.
Boomshakalaka
which will make our march through the playoffs
like Zhukov marching on Berlin in ’45, that much sweeter right?

there is a fine line between realistic and morose
this whole site has seemed like a suicide hotline today. Does this team have issues? sure as heck, but it’s not nearly as bad as people are portraying it to be.

This was a bad day to be a Blazer, no doubt about it...
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
It's a question of: are we the 7-3 team or the 6 sucks of 7 team...
Glass 70% full or 80% empty?

does “6 sucks of 7” mean?

point differential doesn't matter in the standings...
… but it is useful for predicting the future. If someone was to project the Blazers next 29 games based on the last 7, the outlook wouldn’t be positive. Close home wins over NYK and MEM are not good omens.
I still believe we’re better than we’ve shown of late.
Boomshakalaka
I think you're right
about being better then we’ve shown as of late. and you know what, we’ve still won 7 of 10. To me that shows growth and is slightly encouraging.
arrgh I think I must hate you for forcing me into the role of Suzy Sunshine

the last 7 games we've played quite poorly
I believe we’re closer to the team we saw early in the year. We’ll find out.
Boomshakalaka
Exception was OKC in PDX, the original poster noted...
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
that was me
it was a good win, but it should be noted that the Thunder had gone down to the wire at Staples the night before.
it’s been a rough stretch, but we managed to get enough wins to survive it. Now we have to start playing better.
Boomshakalaka
I wonder if...
…all the speculation about the trade deadline was part of the problem? There were a lot of names being bandied about and I’m sure it made it difficult for some players to concentrate. Let’s hope this is the case and the Blazers come out tonight with a fire in their belly.
And for all the Channing hate, he did have a good stretch last year when Joel was out – maybe he can repeat this…
I would have chucked Sergio overboard now that he has value, and trusted in god on rex for the 15 minutes a game that Blake isn't playing...
But the big problem isn’t PG. Rex will not die if he doesn’t play. The problem is that Marty is gone for the year, in all likelihood, and there isn’t enough firepower; and the team is STILL short a backup 4 that can ruck, which is unchanged for 18 months or more now…
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
I was really impressed with Rondo tonight... VERY tough man-to-man defender...
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
Freeland coming over would be awesome
he draws a lot of Biedrins comparisons. We all know Biedrins can rebound.

If we could get a free Biedrins
that would indeed be awesome. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Strained knee. Chuck was speculating, quite reasonably, that it could have been a blow achilles, which is really what it looked like (non-contact injury)....
Why is Channing Frye still here? Anybody??? Anybody???
The best part of this post
Is Tom referring to himself in the first person. Sort of like ‘The Seven Faces of Eve’.
well.....Shav has been in uniform since the Philly game...
thats over a month ago – - -and prior to Ike leaving and Ruffin’s whatever….it would require Martell +1 to be down…..so ….probably close to right

You forgot Raef
At his salary, he would undoubtedly deserve to start over Oden and Przybilla, if he weren’t hurt.
There is no charge for awesomeness. Or attractiveness.
