Tyson Chandler Back to Hornets
Epic Trade Fail via ESPN.com.
The New Orleans Hornets decided to trade Tyson Chandler to clear some cap space and add depth to the frontcourt. They'll have to go back to the dra wing board.
The Hornets announced on Wednesday that the Oklahoma City Thunder did not medically clear the center and therefore rescinded the trade. Chandler would have gone to the Thunder for forwards Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith.
"We welcome Tyson back with open arms," Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said in a statement. "We went into this trade to garner more frontcourt depth to add to our team as we continue our push towards the playoffs. We expect Tyson and the rest of our big guys to step up to the challenge."

OKC won't clear Chandler, who is playing, but Mobley gets his waived...so sad.

What's so sad about it?
Completely different situations.
NY traded for Mobley because he comes off the books after this season. OKC traded for Chandler to be a cornerstone piece of a young team. The Knicks don’t really care if they do not get any PT out of Mobley, while that was exactly what the Thunder was trading for.

The Hornets played in the OKC when Katrina hit. So it would make sense for Tyson to have some connection to the city.

Wow. His injury must be long term and severely debilitating if they’d rather have Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox back rather than gamble on the future health of Tyson Chandler.
Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.

and not dealt Diogu for Ruffin, my “Frye/Diogu for Chirs Wilcox” proposal would’ve been right back on the table!

I don't want Wilcox long term
I was thinking KP could swap Ike and Channing’s expiring contracts and get the UFA to back up LMA, then let Chris walk at season’s end…but now that Diogu is gonzo there’s only one way I can think of to make Frye’s salary and Wilcox’ match up
and that’s to use…the newly acquired 3.13 mil trade exception!
BTW, I wouldn’t mind “fishing for Bass” this summer. But I don’t think Brandon would accept the limited minutes he’d get backing up LMA (he’d avoid the potential Boozer/Milsap logjam)

Chad Ford quotes an anonymous GM
who thinks the Thunder were “extremely conservative in their diagnosis of Chandler. Although he hadn’t seen the medical evidence, he felt, based on his conversations with the Thunder, that the team might have overreacted to the center’s turf toe issue.”

He's great at swapping PG's
Marbury for Kidd
Then Kidd for Harris
At this point if he offered Harris for Sergio I’d be the first fan saying no…well…

This was an excellent trade for a team looking for some legitimacy. Perhaps this trade is done over again in the summer?

This sucks for the Hornets and Thunder
The Thunder have to go back to Krstic, Sene, and Swift.
The Hornets get their injured big man back, remain over the luxury tax line, and lose their big man to a bad enough injury to cancel a trade.
Yikes.

STRIKE! while the iron's hot
We know NOLA just tried to dump salary and it backfired, so maybe they’re in panic mode today?
Time for KP to swoop in and snatch CP3 and atone for the 2006 draft
Never happen?
What if he offered LMA, and Bayless, and Rudy? Even…Greg Oden?
What would getting the “2nd best guard in the NBA” be worth to you?
We could take Peja’s contract off their hands, and give them RLEC
Might as well think BIG, and take advantage of a franchise while they’re in scramble mode

Shinn would rather move his franchise to Kansas City or Vegas than trade CP3
Brandon is one of those quiet assassins. - Chris Paul
by Norsktroll on Feb 19, 2009 12:30 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
He'd like to move the team to Vegas or KC regardless
but any player can be had for the right price. If we gave them GO, Sergio, Rudy and RLEC and took Peja off their hands — assuming such a deal could work — I don’t see how Shinn could resist such a deal. It nets him a future Top 2 center, upgrades the SG position, and gets him below the salary cap, just for an admittedly notable downgrade at PG. He could still unload Chandler if he wanted, or keep him as GO’s backup, giving him a powerful center duo.
