Ruffin/Diogu deal includes ...

I haven’t been able to find this anywhere on the net, but according to 1080 the Fan (I know take it for what it's worth) In the Ruffin/Diogu trade the Blazers also receive a $3.13 million trade exception. I believe this is the way we got James Jones from the Suns, and Rop said it’s the way we got Rudy's pick. Meaning we can take a player for 3.13 million off another team and/or get a first round draft pick for doing so.

trade exception

created when they did the first deal

Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.

rudy/jones

we got James Jones for a trade exception created by the Zach trade
We bought the draft rights to Rudy for $3 million in cash

In NBA terms, they were completey seperate trades. The clincher was that Phoenix required us to do the first in order to do the second.

Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.

yep..

I read that somewhere on the ‘net too. I think it was the basis of the deal.. Along with the fact that Ruffin hasn’t played a game this year and is further along in his career, so riding pine shouldn’t cause any problems.

Now that we have this trade exception

any player out there could help us this year will fit that $3 mil price tag?

by Sungari on Feb 18, 2009 5:54 PM PST reply actions

i think we could use it in combination with a trade (i.e. trade the exception along with sergio + outlaw for someone of more salary)

correct me if im wrong though

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
