Rudy wants to participate in the 3-point shootout.
In the blog "Dobles Figuras" (the title means both doble figures and something like two stars) which is written by Sergio and Rudy in the Spanish sports newspaper "Marca" Rudy writes about his feelings during the All-Star Weekend and makes an announcement: If he has decent percentages he will try to compete in the 3-point contest. Considerating the pathetic level of the contest this year, he is welcome.
I don't have enough time to elaborate a translation, so here's the output of google translator:
I'm in Portland, back in Phoenix. Have been so many things these days that I lived to be complicated than you can count on everything that has happened to me. I'll try, but I think it is impossible that you do an idea of what has been the weekend for me.
First, the bad: I'm bursting. I have done a 'back to back to back' two games on consecutive days, travel, Rookies and Party Competition. Furthermore, it is impossible for me to remember all the events I've done these days. Interviews, meetings with kids ... That you very tired, especially mentally. Still, despite the tiredness I can say that I do not change what I have lived here these days. It was a dream and I think everything went well.
I spend a lot of nerves with the Competition Mates. Many. Rather than a party, frankly. These days you realize the mental power that have the individual athletes who play sports. So Rafa Nadal is the best Spanish sportsmen of all time, if not the best.
There is much controversy, with scores of my mates in the contest. I think I deserved more, but what pleases me most is that other players think the same thing (I said so many: Durant, Westbrook ...), that the American press has opined in the same direction and, above all, rioja I told the people in Phoenix. It was amazing: everyone who crossed me in the street congratulating me and told me they thought it deserved more points. Besides, I love the amount of people I called. My friends were very supportive. Do when things go wrong, but even if all goes well your love is appreciated.
About the tribute to Martin Fernando, we had thought, I suggested, and Portland seemed like a great idea, which also had the guy I chose as the winner of the Marca.com. I was the first in a European Competition Mates and he was the first in everything. I am happy to have honored.
I played with his son Jan, who now plays for the Illescas LEB Oro in selections at lower levels. He is a year older than me, we are of the same promotion. I have the shirt of Fernando Martin in Portland and here, although I do not know if it will be possible, I would like to send his family to have a memory of mine.
As you have followed me all that much has happened in Phoenix, I will give you a scoop: today, I submitted to the Competition Mates of next year, but if I can and I have good rates at the start of next season I want to participate in the triples. See you there.

I wonder how many guys have ever done both?
I’m trying to think…MJ was in a 3pt contest one year and had like five hahaha. Rudy might be the only guy other than Jordan….?

drexler did both
embarrassed himself in the 3point contest, and I"m pretty sure he didn’t get all the shots up, which will come as no surprise to anyone who spent years watching his jump shooting motion.

Brent Barry has won both.
Jerryd Bayless has two emotions: Kill and Win.

Why did I think it was Jon Barry who won the slam dunk contest?
Still trying to figure out the C value paradox...

hard to vote given the options listed
I wouldn’t say he’s a lock for the finals, but I would say he could win the contest. He’s definately a legitimate contender, so I’d have to vote equal parts of your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th options.
It all depends on if he’s hot or cold. If hot, he could go on a tear. If not, then it could be ugly.

Meetings with kids...
crap!!
being in Portland has already rubbed off on Rudy a little too much.

So the dunk contest translates to "Competition Mates"?
I love that.
If there is a petition to get the dunk contest changed to Competition Mates, I will sign it many times over.

I voted for option 4
only because the speed of the competition worries me with Rudy. He shoots so well when he has time to set his feet and think about the shot, but we’ve all seen some ghastly airballs when he feels pressed for time. Do you guys think this would be a factor or not?

Why he's likely to do goodly
He doesn’t use a lot of ‘legs’ in his shots (the more legs ya use, the more tired you’ll be after shooting so many shots in a minute), and he has a very quick release. In every shot in the 3 point shootout, your feet are set, and Rudy shoots poorest when he is defended by someone and does his jump back 3 point fling shot.
He should be able to hand the speed well, as he shoots much faster in a game.

wise observations...let's hope this plays out
I certainly think he has a better chance in the 3 point shootout than the dunk contest. objective scoring ftw.

I agree
There ain’t no debate over who ‘really’ wins a 3 point shootout, so the NBA will have to work extra hard to screw Rudy over again.
Does anyone know if that was the lowest scoring 3 point shoot out in years, or ever? Sure felt like it. No one hit 20 or more, right? In any round? LAME.
I think they should go back to 3 rounds, 2 rounds is much too short.

Roy would find a way to mess it up for Rudy.

Can you blame Roy?
Not only is Rudy a much better player, he’s more popular than Roy is. Roy feels threatened by Rudy, and he has to do what he can to destroy Rudy and his career.
It’s called being a champion.
Roy’s jealousy really lights my short fuse though, AAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH SO ANGRY AT ROY!!!

Rudy has the quick release
Also, his shooting motion doesn’t involve a lot of jumping. So he’d probably do very well in the 3-point competition.
