Definitely with pity. Seattle fan bugs me but you never wish that another city (losing a team).

BA Baracus thanks you

It was "mascot night" at the Rose Garden, which apparently translates to a dozen inflatable versions of various NBA mascots being chased around the arena by Portland's "Blaze", which is some breed of rapist dog. -PostingandToasting

I feel terrible for that lot.

Bad deal, that there.

hmmmm...

are they coming down to root for their old team? Or are they coming down to root for the Blazers and boo the team that left them?

If I could vote twice

I would add “With Open Arms”, because I am sure there are more than a few people who desperately tried to keep the team in Seattle but failed. For those good basketball souls we offer them the best basketball the NW has to offer, with Pity of Course, oh wait, “There’s No Pi-ty in the Rose Ci-ty!”.

haha +1

We need to bring Bedger’s to a Thursday Timber’s game.

From the back of Travis Outlaw's Franz card: Travis leads the team in monstrous thunder dunks, wins awards for post game interviews, and often gets extra points for degree of difficulty.

I know, I also know we will play in June, but after that, we need some soccer

Blazermaniac Sec 225 was good but the Timbers Army knows how to chant!

What isn't better than Blaze?

Since the Sonics fans are coming to the game tonight, can’t they bring Squatch with them so he can take Blaze down and we can have a Trail Cat BBQ?

Yes! Yes! In the face!

That’s OK with me. I boo the Mariners every time at Safeco – but since everyone is either filing their nails, talking on their cell phones, or chugging $9 beers in center field, nobody notices.

Open arms...and a middle finger pointed in David Stern's direction

On a bad day, the Seattle debacle makes me question my interest in NBA basketball.

Steroids? Pfff. This move was the most serious and cynical abuse of the trust conferred by sports fans, in any professional sport, in a generation.

It was an insult to the entire region, and to any city that wants an honest and thoughtful debate about the place of professional sports in its civic life.

And if so, why haven’t they got the heck out of there and married some other hottie from a real city…like….where the sun actually shines.

I've got my gold wristbands / headband ready for tonight

I’m not gonna root for the Thunder by any means, but I’ll be there to show my support. These people were straight up robbed.

Skepticism

If you’re a Sonics fan coming as a Thunder fan, you’ll be just like any other away fan…
If you’re a convert to the Blazers’ awesomeness, make yourselves at home!
If you’re holding a giant foam middle finger with David Stern’s name on it, cheers! This town loves a good protest.

Booooooooo!

I really hope Sonics fans boo the thunder. I feel super(sonics) sorry for them and a great, now defunct, rivalry. Any word on a bigfoot sighting in the arena tonight?

Life is hilarious.

doubt Blazers will be booed

I really don’t think Sonics fans will drive 3+ hours to boo the Blazers. Pretty sure any lingering hatred towards Portland due to the I-5 rivalry will be overshadowed by the hatred of those that conspired to take the Sonics.

I want to put points on your face.

by bonesbarry on Feb 11, 2009 3:02 PM PST up reply actions

i ain't like some of you

damn people feeling sorry for losing sonic fans, aybe if you damn people supported the team better, they still be in seattle.even the oden fanboys in pdx sell out the r.garden now.there is no pity from me sonic fan go home and weep in your damn starbucks $6.50 cup of coffee.

by fatty on Feb 11, 2009 2:27 PM PST reply actions

supported the team better, huh?

You can check the numbers, but I think attendance at Sonics games last year was definitely not at the bottom (at least in terms of % filled; the Key Arena is "intimate") and was probably at least towards the middle of the pack DESPITE the team owner openly vying for a lottery pick and all but telling the fans he was going to move the team after 41 years in Seattle.

Its easy to support the Blazers now that Paul Allen no longer has them up for sale and Brandon Roy is helping lead this team back to its glory days. Go through what Sonics fans have just been through then start talking.

I want to put points on your face.

by bonesbarry on Feb 11, 2009 2:57 PM PST up reply actions

for your damn information

unlike 90% of these people who’re in this room these last couple of years,i was at the r.garden during that jailblazer era 98-05.i say me and 5,000 of my closest friends.and that’s a fact bones book it !!!

by fatty on Feb 11, 2009 3:04 PM PST reply actions

ok?

i realize the jailblazer years were far from glorious, but is that really comparable to playing two rookie forwards out of position along with “veterans” that, using the most rose-tinted of glasses, could at best be called journeymen while the owner is basically telling the fans “forget you, we’re outta here”?

fatty, i wasn’t calling you out for lack of support. i know better than that. but i think you’re way out of line if you’re saying sonics fans got what was coming to them because no one supported the team.

I want to put points on your face.
