I can't wait for these 10 days to pass. . .
I love Blazers Edge. I have been lurking around here for almost 2 years now. It is always the place I go to first to check up on Blazer news and to read the various opinions of other Blazer fans like myself. In the last year I have participated a little more by adding a comment or two here and there. Most of these comments are usually sarcastic or very short but I look at is as dipping my toe in the water before I jump in.
I have never written a Fanpost before, and I hate that this is my first one. I am absolutely annoyed beyond belief of all the trade speculation in the fanpost area. I look on the left sidebar and I see 8 out of 10 fanposts about trades. Although Dave has tried the Trade Drawer it obviously is not working. There are fans joining the site today to post their trade proposal, often times a proposal that has been proposed upwards of 25 times.
Like I said before I hate that this is my first fanpost, but I just have to vent about this. I can’t wait until Feb. 19. I CAN’T WAIT. Why? Because I miss my site. I miss our site. I miss the discussion about the players we have progressing, instead of discussing the players we have as valuable trade assets. I don’t mind speculation, every fan does it, but enough is enough people. Let the front office handle the trades and we can keep enjoying being fans.
I apologize if this comes off as an attack. It’s not. It’s only frustration manifesting itself in a fanpost.
I honestly do love this site very much and I hope once the deadline passes we can go back to the great conversations we had before the mad rush of trade proposals.
Feb. 19 can come no sooner
GO BLAZERS!

the site should have a “vote this fanpost off the site” function. It’s almost like ESPN’s board in here.

we've heard so much about some players for so long
gerald wallace for instance beforre his injury. and then i would check charlotte’s boxscore and find… well, not much to show much of an impact on the game.
i’m not sure if it’s the influence of fantasy sports — but people ‘fall in love’ with certain guys around the league, and then simply tout them over and over and over again.
there’s someone here who loves kirk hinrich, others who’re crazy about richard jefferson… and this gets linked to the blazers they want to trade.

My expectations for this team
have been surpassed. I thought the team would be fighting for the 8th spot before the all-star break with the tough schedule in the beginning. I figured now would be our chance to make a move with the schedule more favorable.
I am extremely please with our team so far this season.

I generally agree
that repeated trade posts are not my idea of fun, but at the same time in this case I do understand them. As you point out the trade deadline is only 10 days away. I respect the feelings of people who hate Christmas music but you know, from about December 20th on I think they pretty much have to deal with it because it’s the season. That’s the analogy I’m using in my own mind to keep me sane. Also keep in mind that a trade proposal is an easy entry point for a new poster who might otherwise be intimidated posting something. You have to give a little leeway there.

If anyone isn't sure how to do this:
1) Click on Edit Settings on the top left of the home page.
2) Make your chages in the Number of Recent Fanposts to Display line.
(I don’t know what the default it is — 10? 15? — but it’s not enough for a site as busy as Blazers Edge.)

insteading of clogging up the sidebar and junk drawers with it, I would be happy(ier). This phenomenon is not restricted to newbies either, their are Bedgers who should know to keep it clean who aren’t.

yeah the trade drawer thing just went out the window
it would likely be annoying for him to remind people on the main page of this on every other main page post, and i hope that if this continues past the trade deadline for whatever reason, that Ben and Dave just start deleting any trade post that is not the daily drawer.

December 20th?
Try from at least as early as Thanksgiving Day, where I come from. But this gives me a great idea …
Let’s have the trade deadline changed to December 25. Then, in the morning, when the kids get up and run downstairs to see what Santa left them, mom and dad will scour the ’net for news about their new favorite players.
Please note that I do not intend any sleight to practitioners of other religions (or of none at all). I personally have Jewish, Muslim, and atheist friends who celebrate Christmas because it’s somehow a part of our culture here in the US, and, frankly, everybody likes getting presents. However, I encourage any who would care to try, to improve upon the basic plan I’ve outlined.

The week before the trade deadline is always rife with speculation among fans,
but remember RLEC is probably our best chance to acquire a proven impact player for a while. So it is really quite a big deal. Ergo the unusually high amount of trade talk on this site. This site should be more normal soon enough.

Yeah, I didn't get hooked on the NBA because of cap room, matching salaries, luxury tax, etc.
Er, I actually got hooked on watching some of the best athletes on earth play the greatest team sport ever invented. I admit to being eager to see if KP manages to improve the team in the next week. But I tire of all the speculation and analysis.
Plus, I don’t enjoy constantly hearing Blazers referred to as “assets”—like they’re pieces of meat. That’s understandable but a bit disheartening. There’s not a guy on the current roster to whom I’d say, “Good riddance.”
So yeah: I look forward to the passing of the trade deadline and the resumption of play after the all-star break. That’s when our rested Blazers will—hopefully—make a strong stretch run to lock up their first playoff appearance since the Jailblazer days.

that happens at every instance of fandom.
Everyone treats their objects of fascination as commodities. It is the considerate and enlightened fan who remembers that they are people.
I am a trade speculator and I think about the likelihood of these guys getting traded all the time. It is important to remember that they are humans and might not want to leave. I love Portland, I would hate to be traded. – Elgin

Personally,
I really dont think there is gonna be a trade. I really dont think KP, Nate, et al, believes they are contenders to really win it all this season. KP talks alot about culture and I dont believe he lets any player who is playing regular minutes, plus Blake, Martell – go -
Has KP ever traded a player, beyond maybe a bench player close to the trade deadline? Nothing springs to mind. The parts of this team are starting to mesh though it would be really nice if they got a killer defender. Like Buck! See I’m getting sucked into this TRADE DEADLINE!!! Remember how good the Blazers got after getting Buck! He was mostly an offensive player when he was playing, and when he came here he turned into probably one of this teams best defenders in history. We already had scorers. So who’s got a guy that we can go get now – who can come in for Lamarcus – and play lock down D inside and out.
