LaMarcus, 3 rebounds through 22 min.
I know you’re our Soft Forward, but how about some rebounding to go with all those fadeaways? Thanks.
Time to show those loyal 3,000 Pacer fans that the Blazers are the best basketball team in Oregon.

I hate NBA.com’s blackout rules for LPBB. I pay good money so why can’t I watch all games? I don’t want to get cable just to watch a couple of games on TNT each year.
thanks. Can't tell because both games are showing the halftime scoreboard...
but if it works for you, should work for me as well. I hope.
And for those of us who didn't choose crappy Eastern Conference teams as part of our 7 team package?
NBALP sucks.

A little of both at times
Indy’s offense isn’t sharp though. They don’t have a lot of well known players and it shows.

is that they don’t use the full shot clock.

More than anything, this is where the problem lies with Steve Blake.
If he’s not shooting efficiently, then there’s no use for him out on the hardwood. As a floor spreader at the off guard position, he did fine last year. This year, however, he’s been a complete invalid.

on that last play was TURRRRIBLE
End of 3 Quarters: PDX 77, IND 75
Indiana wins the quarter. Offensive rebounds.

can’t watch the game, guess that’s a good thing?
does it seem like 90% of the time MIller is in
Blake is also in? It seems like they have some problem with miller playing without Blake, it’s so weird. Just let Andre be the point.

If Rudy was healthy, we'd be starting Miller-Roy-Rudy-LMA-Joel
Just a feeling. Rudy’s injury changed the plans for the updated starting lineup.
What do you bet they leave Blake in and pull Dre???

My rule of thumb for coaches
the more they talk to the espn people between quarters the worse they are. VDN just rambles endlessly while Popovich and Jackson just say a few words and go back to the game
Your confusing thesis has captured my attention. Tell me more.

Damn my mom won't be into Las Vegas for an other hour. She asked me about this game
and when I found out about Granger sitting out I said to bet on the Blazers. It will suck since they are going to cover the spread.
I can live with this 3 guard lineup to close games, especially with Rudy/Trav/Nic hurt.
It kills me that Blake plays 39 minutes (by the time this is over) to Miller’s 25 and Jerryd’s 14. Just asinine by Coach Dean.

Remember...
He has been out with an injury for a long time. Give it a few more games when he starts to oil off that rust. We’re only 20 + games into the season. We’ll start seeing a more productive player soon I think.
Blake on the other hand I am not too sure about. He has started almost (?) every game this season and has been inconsistent. What happened to Mr. (fairly) Reliable from last year?
I would be more willing to believe that
if Martell had ever “hit his stride” at some point in his career, but I honestly can’t remember him ever stringing together 3 solid games. Believe me, I want him to do well very badly, but roster spots at the SF are kind of valuable.

I've got nothing here.
I’m not as high on Bayless as some others, but it seems natural to increase his minutes.
My best guess is that the coaches are trying to stabilize the team after the injuries, so they’re “going with what has previously worked”
I don't care much for Bayless.
It’s Miller’s minutes I’m worried about.

I still think playing time is overrated as far as development goes...
Bayless is much better this year, and made his improvements while riding the bench. I think you play him because he has proven he can help the team win, not cause you are worried about developing him….
RUDY > MJ
#52
playing time with a young point guard is the most important thing. Look at Westbrook. Awful at first, learned from his mistakes.
get well soon, big guy.
#52
Obviously playing time is a factor in development, and will speed up the process...
Who knows if Westbrook would have made similar improvements with far less playing time. Whatevs though, we can all agree that Bayless should be playing more than he is….
RUDY > MJ
#52
I can’t think of many young point guards who were good immediately without playing time.
get well soon, big guy.
#52
If you think about playing say,15mpg for a young point guard....
That is about 1% of the work a given player puts in through out a given season. It helps, but won’t make or break a players development in the long run…
RUDY > MJ
#52
Yeah, but
you still don’t get in-game experience by sitting on the bench. Examples: what to do in clutch situations. Things like that. He has definitely developed his jumper more though, but you can do that outside the game.
--
by CaptainSexyJacob on Dec 9, 2009 6:41 PM PST up reply actions
I think it is both
He needed to prove he can earn the minutes, but it seems like he has AND he will have a learning curve to go through to be a combo-guard next to Roy.
Just like Oden needs in-game minutes, Bayless does too, and maybe more so because of the many layers a PG has to deal with in a game.
#52
Blake.
39 minutes of missing most of his shots, then hitting a dagger 3 in the 4th quarter.
He got abused on pick and rolls by Price and Ford, and picked up his dribbles forcing other players to shot against the clock.
Typical work day for The Blake.

He could also teach Blake the passing thing…though noone can dribble out the the clock as well as BLAKEY.
I agree. Miller should start.
It would help if Martell was reliable from outside.
Nate was going to possibly start Miller/Roy/Rudy?

I don't mind him not starting
But 39 minutes, Bayless playing so little, ditto for Miller… it’s just weird.
Especially now Miller off the bench makes some sense since we are depleted, but this is a great chance to play Bayless where he is natural— as a scoring 2 combo guard.

I *kind of* understand that our best play is Roy in iso

for 3 though?
he’s so sweet off the dribble. we know that. but that’s a play he creates.
Roy in crunchtime is the one making plays and needs guys that can catch and shoot like Rudy, Blake, Dante.
I’ve yet to see good consistent rotation out of J-Bay’s jump shot in those scenarios. that’s why he needs more PT IMO…

by CaptainSexyJacob on Dec 9, 2009 6:44 PM PST up reply actions
I usually end up watching a nice pirated stream
Which is much higher quality and tons smoother, and when it finally gets shut down I switch to LPBB and suffer through it.
Takes all the joy out of watching some nights.
#52
On replays
The total lack of being able to rewind, fast forward past commercials, how much it lags, the delay between small and fullscreen, the picture quality… I ain’t picky, I just watch something that plays smooth and is useable.
I can’t believe how bad watching a replay on it is.
#52
I'll admit I haven't
tried out the fancy features and never try to watch it on full screen since I like to have the Yahoo boxscore open.
The picture quality is great for me, but my internet is fast.
Well, for me
The picture quality is the least of my complaints.
The inability to fast forward or rewind, especially when I miss a game and am just watching the replay, annoys me to no end.
Otherwise, it often has connection concerns and lag and is less reliable than pirated streams, as long as the streams don’t get taken down by the NBA.
#52
I'm in the middle of nowhere so
bandwidth isn’t much of a problem. I’m near NYC where the league office is. Maybe the servers are close by?
I’ll admit that I don’t think the new features justified the price bump.
Fine, I get it, you love LPBB and want to marry it
I wish you and your lovely new bride a long and fruitful life and we’ll just leave it at that, okay?

rudy's next
#Blazers all-time three-point shooters: Porter, 773; Stoudamire, 717; C. Robinson, 492; Drexler, 464; Blake and Wallace, 373.
Very nice play
You could see it coming and it went perfect.
Only problem with it, 1.4 secs left for Minny to win. That’s enough.
#52
I know Minny has a lot of issues
But I still have a lot of questions about Rambis
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
He's a rookie coach of course
And that team has no go-to dudes on it, especially on the perimeter, and he’s trying to shoe-horn in the triangle, which I hope they stick with.
Tough situation for him, so it’s hard to judge, but I’d think going for a closer shot, or into Jefferson or Love for a turnaround, woulda’ been better.
#52
Minny had 1.4 secs to score on the inbounds from halfcourt.
It went into Love, who passed it to Ellington right away from the long 3. Way off.
It appeared to be the designed play.
Maybe Ellington is lights out, I dunno.

LMA
A very encouraging game from LaMarcus. When the Blazers decided to get him the ball on the block he dominated the game. He either scored or had the Pacers scrambling to pick up our shooters on the perimeter. If he and Portland can keep that up we’ll be better than many people are projecting.
We need to take the tape from the Cleveland_Houston game
And use it to gameplan Friday.
We’re similar to Houston in style after all.

Anyone watching Houston Cleveland?
THAT is the reason Trevor Ariza should’ve been our #1 free agent target this year. No one is a better perimeter defender on LBJ. Few if any are better overall.
I think he and Rudy would have killed each other
Also we did have Batum.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Ariza is a physical defender
One perimeter defender is not good enough for an entire team. Nic, even when healthy can only do so much. Ariza gives defensive diversity, and 48 minutes of an elite perimeter defender. It’s like we have at center with Przy and Oden. Never worried about D inside. With Ariza we wouldn’t have had to worry about perimeter D sucking. At worst it would ever be, even with Blake would be above average.
Ariza and Batum are too similar
Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Rudy, Batum, Outlaw, Webster, Bayless, Blake, Miller, Joel... Holy crap!
A great perimeter defender is a great perimeter defender
Having 2 of them on an entire team is hardly overkill. With fouls, injuries, and 48 minutes in games, 2 are necessary.
Also, Ariza is a much more physical defender
which is why he’s so effective versus LBJ as opposed to guys like Prince whom LBJ absolutely abuses.
Honestly, having two shutdown wing defenders is a pretty nice thing to have.
Plus Portland can easily afford to have lower offense in a spot or two, if you get great D. (And your whole team isn’t hurt.)

Why you need, or how you play
Ilguaskas, Varajao, Shaq is really beyond me.
Particularly since those guys are supposed to stay out of the lane and let LBJ drive (except Shaq – he doesn’t do that). I mean, they win games, and play good D, but Cleveland’s roster just doesn’t make sense to me.

You guys are really gonna have to do some losin' to get Wall.
You can’t let things like beating Indiana without Granger happen if you want him.
He has to balance out his five steals
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
But his shot is much better than in high school. He becomes useful in the half-court offense with dribble drives
And can stop on a dime, which combined with his great first step makes him almost unstoppable.
Yeah, he's going to be pretty good I think.
But you never know. Look how much everyone derided this draft and the high quality rookie play we’ve seen.
Lebron played worse than
Brooks OR Ariza.
Two Rockets outplayed him separately.
*Unless KP has a secret plan that makes this statement incorrect.

><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Rockets have a knack for making LeBron look bad in Houston.
When you leave it to Les Bronettes, bad things happen.
Ariza is a LBJ destroyer
I cry on the inside when I see him do what he has always done, and realize we opted for a 30+ year old point guard that doesn’t fit Nate’s narrow view of what a point guard is supposed to do. How can you let Morey beat you to Ariza when you had 10 million waiting? Atrocious.
I thought you guys believed Ariza is the devil?
Besides, Houston and LA did a version of the baseball “challenge trade” – so LA has Artest until he’s like 46, and Houston has Ariza until he’s 29.
Probably covered before, but
how does Blake get more minutes than Roy? Did he do a better job dribbling down the shot clock?
Roy had an amazing game tonight.
I think he is back to form and will be an all-star again. It is up to him, but I think he can lead this team to great things, with or without Greg Oden.
Clyde the Glide, the greatest player ever
Cliff Robinson got mad at my brother who was trying to sell him a cellphone when my brother called him Uncle Cliffy. Apparently, he doesn't like that name very much.
by BeaumontTXBlazerFan on Dec 9, 2009 9:40 PM PST reply actions
How do you end up a Blazer fan in Beaumont? Just curious.
Roy should flourish – his patented drives in the lane and +1 foul calls are totally available with Oden out. Aldridge plays better when Roy draws the D inside on drives as well.
Clearly, there is a way to run the offense with Oden, but that was really happening, so Portland is back to the offense it knows best, and has been highly effective with. Losing the supporting cast hurts, but Roy and LMA are the engine that makes the offense go. And despite all the hate of Blake, he looks to me like a better fit for the very deliberate Portland half court offense. Miller is the better player, but not necessarily the better fit. That’s an outside perspective, for whatever its worth.
