Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Pacers--Pre-Game and First Half

I'm guessing that this won't be one of the highest-traffic games of the year so we're trying out just two Gameday Threads today.  This one will go through the pre-game and on into the first half.  As always please keep on topic, be respectful of each other, welcome newcomers, and avoid posting illegal links or requests for same.  Enjoy!

Times like these

require teams to have an offensive system that any player can execute, not just isolation plays and the hope of getting some fast break opportunities. Pryzbilla, Cunningham, Howard should be able to benefit from plays run for their position: they need to contribute some given number of points a game from plays run for them not just clean up points.

by 7677maniac on Dec 9, 2009 3:13 PM PST reply actions

every player can excecute an isolation play… it’s just not always effective

I wonder if being home and recuperating isn’t a good thing for Nate. It gives him a chance to step back and take a long look at his offensive schemes and the players he has left to work with. He might have a eureka moment and shake it up a little. Maybe a blessing in disguise…

You know, truly

They ought to be able to win many games, just the two of them. When you think about the supporting casts many other dynamic duos have had, we have no excuses. Think about the guys surrounding Stockton and Malone, Kobe & Shaq, Michael and Scotty, hell Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. Even after all our injuries, the guys we have left are at least as good as what the aforementioned had for teammates, and every one of those pairs went deep year after year.

Keys to the game:

1) Score more points than the Pacers. History shows when you do this, you win approximately 100% of the time.

2) Put the basketball through our hoop. This usually translates into points.

3) Prevent the Pacers from putting the basketball through their hoop. Advanced statistical analysis proves this increases a team’s point total and one of the keys is to score more points than the Pacers.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
