This is a clip from Tim Donaghy's "60 Minutes" interview. Starting at around 5 minutes they start to talk about favoritism, or a lack thereof, towards certain players for various reasons. Whether to believe him or not is one thing, but it certainly is interesting to hear what he says and then think about Brandon Roy's annoying yelps whenever he goes to the rim.

I don't understand how the NBA

can just let this stuff go without a much more open investigation of the current Refs and their bias for or against teams, players, coaches, etc… You can see how this effects games, and it shouldn’t, pure and simple. One thing that is for sure, the system that is in place for refs in the NBA is broken. These guys were gambling when they were under contract not to, which is a failure of the NBA’s checks and balance system. They are influencing games because they are too close to the players, coaches, execs, and owners of these teams, that is a failure of the system. I can’t believe that whoever is in charge of the refs for the NBA wasn’t fired, (maybe he was silently but I didn’t hear it). They put in a new guy, who had a military background but that appears to be a front for public relations more than anything else, becuase they haven’t made any other changes.

Baseball tried to do the same thing when Jose Consaco came out with Jucied, and it cost them dearly. The NBA needs to hold itself accountable and do something about it.

If he never manipulated games to win money

he’s no worse than any other ref in the game. Yes, his betting while having an inside edge takes the gambling world for a bit of a ride. However, those guys tend to take a few people themselves, and it’s fair to hit them back.

The problem is systemic and not gear toward person. I’m sick of hearing of Donaghy as the lone problem. From where I sit, the offenses he committed are the exact same things every other ref did.

The fact that the ex-union rep sat there and said they openly talk about their prejudices confirms that they don’t see prejudice as a problem. Talking about prejudices does not protect against them. If a group happens to agree, it re-enforces the prejudice. Over time the prejudice becomes institutionalized and you end up with a few teams and types of players getting all the goodies.

The following word is an accurate description of all NBA agents who see no problem here and is not meant as a simple insult: idiot.

Seriously, I see so much stupidity on a daily basis

but it’s so bad regarding this issue that I wish we could simply avoid it all together. From now on, I’m simply going to think as little of any NBA ref as possible and completely ignore them as people.

NBA---- Speak No Evil --- See No Evil ---Hear No Evil

How can the NBA not investagate…easy they figure if you don’t look you won’t find. The snake oil salesman never looked into what was in the magic money making potion just that it sold and he made money.

Agree, this is a pretty depressing interview...

Mostly the parts that include the FBI agent and Mathis. I know this isn’t iron-clad logic, but the fact that there is so much less talk about the role of officials in the NFL is pretty compelling evidence to me that there’s a serious problem in the NBA.

This is reality folks. Get used to it.

Land Rondo.

"He needs to realize that he can't stop every shot, especially from a smaller and offensively potent player. Get your hands up, make him shoot it over you, but let him shoot every once in a while. They score a little but you stay in the game a lot. And when you stay in the game...smashy smashy!" Dave on Greg Oden

BTW I would have only lost money betting on Lakers against Celtics in finals

I have yet to see them get the short end of the whistles unless it was this year. I dont think the league had an interest in who won, just who was playing and they got what they wanted.
