Blake did way better then andre tonight....

Why can we not get over this player this this player that and be happy… WE COULD BE THE NETS!!!!!!!

broy and the squad ended with decent stats but after they decided to put it together.

Dre had 4 to’s and 2 ast.. he hasnt been dishin at all latly and chuckin the ball over alot… blakey 2to 4 ast 9 points 4-8 much better his =/- was the best on the whole squad sit bayless and andre… ball dont lie!

if steve is such garbage why when hes on the floor the blazerss play better?….also why is this amazing dre we should start having such horrible numbers averaging 27 minutes a game this year? if hes so great then why in playing over half of the game does his number look worse the sergios last year?

I want Gerald Wallace

What do u think we’d have to give up to get him? He would provide more scoring and rebounding. Both of which we desperately need with Oden out…

by ClydeTheGlyde on Dec 7, 2009 7:59 PM PST up reply actions

He would be the almost ideal reinforcement (since there is no center like Greg available), helping with the rebounding on both ends, taking pressure off the paint with great perimeter defense, and scoring easy points inside and drawing fouls. Unfortunately I think that train has left the station with Raef’s contract, but it sure wouldn’t hurt to ask. Those guys have made some strange deals in the past, and Larry Brown can turn on anyone at any time. At the moment it’s rather Augustin though.

Free Bayless

4-5, 6-7, 1 reb, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 TO, 2 fouls. What’s wrong with that line? That he only got twice as many minutes as Juwan Howard and less than half of Blake’s.

I don’t get why he can’t play in a Nic Batum role, as a constant starter or rotation player with low but regular minutes. Now more than ever.

I can’t watch this team without the joy of following Batum’s or Oden’s progress, while our big money players mail it in entirely and we refuse to play the only guy with any energy or promise because of an inept coaching staff.

The frustrating thing is that there seem to be no go-to plays and movement on offense

Just stagnant 1 on 1 offense with turnarounds, long jumpers, and hasty drives. Might get a little better once Rudy returns, but all in all it feels very predictable and easy to stop.

Awful Game

Painful to watch phoning it in. Bayless needed more time out there, Blake needed less. Roy and LA need to pick up there game. This team is playing without a sense of urgency. I fear this may be a sign of bad things to come. We need to play Bayless more and Blake a whole lot less. Blake just doesnt have it this year, people are saying to trade him. Umm too whom? He looks very bad and flat out there, other coaches watch games as well.

I can accept a lot of things from a coaching staff

Because I/we don’t know all the behind the scene action. But what I don’t get is when you don’t ride a hot hand until it fizzles. That is basic coaching. If someone has an advantage you milk it for all it’s worth. And you definitely don’t sit the guy during that stretch. I haven’t been a huge bayless fan, but this was ridiculous.

Honestly, I haven't until recently...

but Bayless seems to finally be figuring out how to balance his tendency to attack with some control, and some better decision making. He’s the only Blazer who isn’t a step (or two, or three) behind. Still commit some silly fouls, but yeah, it can’t possibly be any worse with him out there, so I’m all in favor of really seeing what he can do. It’s a sad day for me when Bayless is the only bright spot on this team.

On the coaching thing?

I generally stopped speaking about coaching after BE (for a while) had a lot of users who shouted down any negative comments about Nate. But I’ve felt Nate is at best an average coach, with poor in-game adjustment ability. I’ve felt that way since at least the 32-win season. I’ve had long-time concerns about Nate’s ability to take this team to the next level.

Every once in a while, I’ll pop up and comment on it, but I tend to not talk about it much.

Also, I presume his job is safe for the rest of this year unless the team really falls apart from here.

I thought that he was better than people gave him credit for

I now think that his team’s significant, substantial improvement from year to year was the result of young players getting better and excellent front office work. Nothing I have seen from the coaching staff this season — playing time allotment, Miller utilization, Oden incorporation — has imbued me with the confidence that they and Nate can take this team to a championship. We’ve been scouted and I see precious few adjustments.

I love the players, I love this team, but....

Something has been seriously missing this year. Some of it is effort. Some of it is houston’s scouting report making it to the rest of the league. Some of it is being a step slower (Roy, miller, Blake and pryzbilla especially). And especially our three point shooting. Something needs to be changed.

My thoughts?

Play a game where Roy is at point on offense and Bayless works like an off guard.

Get Roy and LMA playing pick and roll again and again.
Dish to Bayless for the late shot. Need Przy & Webster in there with em for defense, hustle & Webster for 3pt range.

Roy has been really inefficient in the early game, so we need to keep working it until he gets it back.

Be that as it may, we don't have a better option than Webster at the moment.

He shot 50% in the last game. Small sample sizes like two games are irrelevant. He has a decent lifetime shooting average, and will likely improve.

Good point guard = makes other players better. Message to Blake - not the other team's players

Offensive game plan for every team we play: Pass to whoever Blake is guard. Run a pick and roll until Blake goes under the sceen (99% it’s the first one), take advantage of either mismatch.

Man

dunno what can be said that hasn’t been said.

This isn’t the team that I’ve watched for the past three years. I liked watching our 32 win team more than this one…they played their butts off every game.

Nothing is right for the Blazers right now. Their energy is nonexistent; their half-court offense is stagnant and resulting in countless heaves against the clock; their defense is apathetic. The only reason we’ve won games is because we’ve straight up been more talented than the teams we’ve beaten. We still don’t have more than (2? 3?) quality wins this year. When we come up against a playoff-caliber team, we’re getting outworked and outexecuted.

I know that the team bench resembles a MASH unit right now. I know that Greg being out is a significant shock to the system. I know that Nate was at home. But nothing — NOTHING — excuses coming out and laying an absolutely gigantic egg against a team as bad as the Knicks. The Blazers did. not. care. this game. Period. I am so disappointed right now that I don’t even know where to begin.

by BlazersOrBust on Dec 7, 2009 7:28 PM PST reply actions

Here's the story...

It’s not a mystery how we got here.

First, Roy was a huge part of the reason why the Blazers had a great season last year. And he took the summer off. He swam. He biked. He lost ten pounds. Clearly it wasn’t good. He dropped from about the 7th best player in the league to about the 47th. That’s going to smart a little bit.

Injuries. The Blazers have now lost four of their best six or seven most valuable players, arguably, depending on where you rank Nic and Travis. That too is going to smart a little bit.

When you combine those two things, you’ve got a team that is really no better than the 41-41 squad from two years ago…

If Bayless emerges or Rudy gets healthy, this team may start playing .500 ball again. But it’s not going to happen by magic. Brandon Roy of 08-09 ain’t walking through that door. This is just not a very talented basketball team right now.

Needless to say...

It was a prediction I hoped would be wrong. And I still think Roy’s performance will creep up as the season rolls on.

Hopefully he has some pride and will learn his lesson and bust his butt next summer. The kind of success he experienced last year comes from hard work alone – especially when you’re not the same type of athlete as Bron, Wade, etc…

I've been even more disappointed in Aldridge than in Roy

It seems like Roy has at least been trying to find his way…he wants to do the right thing, it just hasn’t been clicking so far this year. To say that LMA has been a shell of his former self is putting it kindly. Remember at the end of last season when he put together that monster stretch of games? Kept scoring in the mid to high twenties with 8-10 boards? Where the hell did that guy go? Has LaMarcus taken over a game this year? Has he even tried?

Roy,LMA,Joel,JB and Dante vs a fast athletic team like the Hawks,I realize this is a total pipe dream because?

unimaginative, un-creative, dumb group of guys in the league.

by CleBlazer on Dec 7, 2009 7:34 PM PST up reply actions

False.

The Bulls coaching staff is far more unimaginative, uncreative, and dumb. VDN is the worst coach in the league right now and it isn’t close.

The Warriors coaching staff is dumber too, although I guess you can’t call them unimaginative what with their 4 guards + Miki Moore lineups that they are liable to throw out at any given moment. The way their treating Anthony Randolph is the Bayless situation x10000000.

I haven’t watched many Blazers game this year. I understand from reading some threads here that the Blazers seem to have regressed in terms of effort and suffer chemistry issues as well as wonky lineups. Another common complaint seems to be a stagnant offense. This is the part that has me confused. From everything I remember reading about last year, the Blazers had perhaps the league’s most efficient offense and one of the weaker defenses but was masked by their extremely slow pace.

Can someone tell me how the offensive schemes have changed since last year? Are they trying to do things differently or is it simply a case of trying to fit new personnel into old roles?

Rudy needs to stop slouching that mofo didnt have a dad around the house

to tell him to stop being a sissy sloucher? plus he needs to start lifting weights especially squats and deadlifts to strengthen his back. end of story

by GOGrampas on Dec 7, 2009 7:47 PM PST up reply actions

Agreed

Rudy is way way way too skinny to play in the NBA. And he’s not skinny strong like Tayshaun and Rondo and guys like that. He’s skinny weak. His chest is concave. There should be a mandatory weights clause in his contract. I’m sure he’s one of those guys who grew up thinking weights would kill his touch, and never needed to lift because he just owned dudes in Europe, but this is no league to be 6’5" and 170. (I know he’s listed at something like 185, but that’s crazy.)

Maybe so...

6+ months since the original injury, and it is still a problem? and an undiagnosed problem at that? That spells fail to me. If he was under the Sun’s staff, I would give them the benefit of the doubt, but under portlands medical staff? I have to wonder what is going on….

I'm left perplexed as well.

If this can be traced back to the Ariza hit (which is what the agent said), then there must have been signs of the injury over the summer. And if so, the trainers should have recommended rest for Rudy instead of playing for Spain.

It would be hard not to have doubts about the trainers at the moment.

Nic had his shoulder problems last year..mid season…they let him keep playing….and then let him play in Euro during the summer….then let him go back after blessing him okay after his injury during play in the summer….then is out for the season….why did anyone let this go on so long?

I envision the blazers medical staff looking at the MRIs and suddenly having an epiphany:

“oh man, I get it. it’s called his “back” because it is actually in back of the rest of his body.

that’s awesome. i wonder else works like that. is there reason why that thing in the middle of the leg is called a knee? I’m headed to powells to pick up some books on body naming stuff"

Watching Aldridge try to score in the first quarter was pathetic

He keeps trying those really tough fade away shots that seem to fall about 10% of the time. Our early game strategy of banging it into Aldridge does not work unless he takes it inside and draws the defense in.

"Rudy is not everyday a shooter," Fernandez said. "He's defense. He's passes. He's assists."

by jebuz on Dec 7, 2009 7:48 PM PST reply actions

LMA has been really bad this year at getting anything easy

my jaw almost dropped when he got that offensive rebound and got fouled on the putback attempt in the first quarter. A brief glimmer of the old LMA.

We are one in four because Roy can't hit in the first three quarters.

4 for 14 is terrible to start the game.

And that has been his plan lately.

Not this year.

Even when winning we rarely looked good. The one game where we ran against the Wolves was really the only time I’ve been excited about the team this year. Night and day from last season.

Man. Lots of negativity tonight.

Have to say I’m not feeling any better. I hope this is the low for the year. So far in the last few games we’ve been blown out by the Warriors, the Grizzlies, the Jazz, and the Knicks. Not a great day to be a Blazer fan.

Multiple sources in the NBA have told me that Jerryd Bayless seems to be the most available player on Portland’s roster. A couple of sources indicated over the weekend that Bayless has asked the team to trade him, because of his lack of playing time. I wouldn’t blame him — young players want, and need, to play. And if he wants out, the team should try to accommodate him. Dwight Jaynes

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

Here it is again, in case you missed it...
Here’s the story…

I believed in Roy’s claims that last year his body didn’t feel right, and that he wanted to do everything to be lighter. Remember MB’s article about optimizing his shoes in that regard, dropping the weight by doing cardio training, etc. He now has stated several times that he absolutely does not see himself as a SF, but wants to play the SG position. But even for that he seems to be a bit off right now.

Disagree with 99% of everything above.

We’re a good team that is playing badly and has suffered a devastating string of injuries.

Readjust your expectations or check back next year.

I think a lot of major problems are coming to light though.

Things that need to be fixed before we can say we are true contenders.
