Andre and free agency
I've been thinking a lot about the Andre Miller acquisition this past offseason. Now he's being mentioned in trade rumors. That's all fine and dandy, but my real concern about the whole Andre Miller free agency implications that it might have...
Nate has shown a real reluctance to play our big off-season acquisition in the starting 5. A lot of it has to do with BRoy, but Nate does (or at least should) have the last say in the matter. After losing Hedo at the last minute, I'm a bit worried that the way that Dre has been treated might discourage other big free agents from signing with us. I don't think Dre is, or ever was, a "perfect" fit; however he's not been given a real crack at it. To Dre's credit he's handled it like a pro since day one as far as i'm concerned. Though, if i'm a big free agent, I think twice about signing here after this season.Maybe Dre gets traded like the rumors state and Portland basically admits that his signing was a "mistake." I'm not sure if that helps this perception, but it's possible. So what do you all think?
With all that said, I think Dre needs a shot in the starting lineup before he is really tradeable. How many teams would even be interested in a backup PG to Steve Blake that is getting $7 mil a year? None in my estimation, but I'm no GM.

Miller hasnt outplayed last season's Blake
Thats all Nate was waiting for. If Miller was playing with the same style he brought in the Heat game he would be starting or at least getting starters minutes. He hasnt really earned a start. Bayless has outplayed them both.
I can see that
Though I have to disagree about Bayless. He’s shown some good play and has definitely earned his minutes, but he’s not consistently outplaying the other 2 PGs. The potential is there though
What are you impressions of Roy?
"He's just a very, very good basketball player. Very smart. Very heady. He can do a little bit of everything on the court. As coaches, when we scout Portland we kind of put him in the same category as Kobe (Bryant), LeBron (James), Dwyane Wade. We treat him the same. He's that good."

I think this is right
Nate hasn’t been worried about Blake’s struggles this year, because he figured he would snap out of it. And Miller hasn’t been substantively better this year for us than Blake was last year.
But Miller has been better than this year’s Blake, and we’re a quarter of the way into the season, and Miller looked against Miami like he was clicking, and all of a sudden we’re hearing about an change in the lineup….

That may be true
But he has a grand total of 0 starts with Brandon playing his natural 2 position

free agents are attracted to money and winning
and parties.
name one big name free agent in the history of ever who who chose to move towns based on less than two of those three criteria.
i can’t, and i’m a nba historiatician.

I agree
But I would hate to see us lose a free agent to a similar team, Atlanta for example, that is offering roughly the same deal because there is a perception that Portland won’t treat their free agents right

As official Historiatician I suggest you look at the facts:
1991-steve smith drafted into nba and is awesome
1994-steve smith traded to hawks while still awesome
1996-resigns as free agent with hawks for 7 years under the stipulation that ted turner give him all video copies of all 5 seasons of sanford and sons, at which time only ted turner has the rights to.
probably would have 8 years if turner hadn’t thrown in the episodes after lamont left and fred just hung out with grady and that fat hillbilly.
1999-steve smith traded to the blazers while only pretty good.
Plus I also submit Mary’s Club, Sassys and Union Jacks versus the Gold Club.
Portland can not offer the same money/parties and only an even chance of winning.
Next: I can do this for any town.

Of course it does, and Portland isn't exactly the FA destination of Kings as it is
I sumit that you’re insane if you don’t think there are a bunch of NBA dudes out there paying attention to how Andre Miller is being treated here.

HOW DARE YOU!!!!!
Just joking. Portland probably ranks slightly above Sacramento in the eyes of NBA players in terms of attractive location. (less cows to drive around)
What free agents?!?! he Blazers are gonna be over the cap shortly and forever due to bloated Brandon/LMA/Oden contracts...........
Does the benching / treatment of Andre Miller affect KP’s ability to attract free agents to Portland?

We will have an MLE for 2nd tier FA's.
But I think the thesis of this post is wrong. I’m not worried at all about future FA’s based on Miller.

Should be green
Next time the Blazers have cap space, KP could be gone. And who cares what MLE players thing.
Start Andre Miller NOW to showcase him for a trade.
I only does if we are trying to sign a point guard.
What point guard would want to play here after this? We will have to trade Blake away first, then this wont matter anymore. More concerning for all other FA’s would be playing with Brandon…
But Portland has awesome strip club laws
Which other cities allow the dancers to stick their bare butts in yer face … for a dollar??
