Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

We were all wrong, folks, and it's time to admit it. According to this article, Andre Miller's defense might actually be helping the Blazers. Seriously, I'm not joking, it's actually suggested.

Why is that so crazy?

Philly was a better defensive team when Miller was on the floor. He can guard shooting guards which helps on switches. He’s always been a smart defender and directs the Blazers defense well when he’s on the court. You can see him talking to teammates after blown plays, telling people when to double, pointing at shooters who aren’t covered.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. The problems come when Miller is forced to guard the best perimeter player on the court. That should never happen, but until Batum comes we just don’t have any other options.

Miller studies tape and knows the opponents

Andre communicates well with his teammates while on the court. So if the Blazers team defense suffered while he was on the floor, then I’d be concerned. The 3-guard lineup was superior to any Blazer configuration in recent memory, but Roy isn’t suited to play against SFs on a nightly basis. I’d go to the RAWMO lineup and see what Miller can do as a starter, alongside Roy and Webster

Miller is a great communicator on defense.

Men lie, Women lie, Numbers don’t.
Fire Nate, Start Miller, and let’s put this all behind us.
That’s it That’s all.

Miller ISN'T a defensive stopper,

but he’s WAY better than Blake and his strength impacts opposing guards’ post-up ability.

His communication is also a plus—on both sides of the ball.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
