Freeman: 17th Man is Dwayne Jones or Earl Barron
Joe Freeman of The Oregonian tweets...
---------------
I expect one of these two guys to be at the workout: Dwayne Jones or Earl Barron.
Who are they? D-League centers and finalists to fill the hardship exception roster spot the Blazers presumably were granted from the NBA.
---------------
To read more about Jones, check out this post from last week.
Well-traveled at 28 years old, Barron last played in the NBA in 2007 for the Miami Heat. He's listed at 7" and 245 pounds. On Sunday night, he put up 25 points and 15 rebounds for the Iowa Energy of the NBDL. He was in camp with the New Orleans Hornets this fall but was eventually waived.
Update (11:46AM): Hold up, heyyyy. Freeman tweets an update that neither player is at practice today.
The third game Joel Przybilla missed due to injury was last night. So the hardship exemption could only have been sent to the league for review as soon as that game ended. Given the logistics of getting league approval, making sure the active D-leaguers into town, finalizing the contract, etc. this is likely a momentary snag.
It's fair to expect a signing announcement shortly, especially if word of the team's final candidates has gotten out.
Update (12:13PM): Brian T. Smith further clarifies the timeline described above, tweeting that Kevin Pritchard is still waiting to hear back from the league offices.

Barron is a big old boy, but he’s also a mid range favourite. A talented offensive player, but not a defender or much of a rebounder.
Jones is the opposite. Rebounder, shotblocker, but the offensive polish of a bag of spanners.
I’d rather have Jones if I were you, but both work. Just in different ways.

What? No BOOMTHO??
OK...so girls in movies where guys wear hockey masks have a better survival rate than the average Blazer player. - Dave
He was banned about 2 weeks ago
It seems that he had been toeing the line for a while and was on Dave’s naughty list and then AK finally crossed the line.
At least that is what I picked up in the JD.
hope so
and he’ll remind us that 0-7 Bayless is a selfish gunner and that Juwan Howard is a washed-up pile of something-or-other
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I think we should go after another PG.
Wasn’t it KP who said that you can never have enough point guards?

i bet we will go with whichever center is the best 3 pt shooter
and also which center takes the most and longest midrage jumpshots
why no boomtho?
bayless leaves over my dead body
Start Bayless (in a 2 guard lineup)
if you should strike Oden down he will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine

Oh Lord...
this season is officially sad. Last season went by fast. I think this season is going to go very slow…..
I personally would like to see KP,
make a move involving Miller or Mills and /or Webster for a center before the deadline.
Nic and Rudy are coming back , I’d like to see more Dante at the 3. I like them all, but could part with any combination of those 3 right now.
"That's just how I get down"........ Andre Miller
Cunningham is not a 3, he can't defend qick SFs in space
Dante’s going to be a 4 like Outlaw was a “4”
When Batum comes back, all thoughts of DC at the 3 will cease

just not that exciting--sorry.
