Tyrus Thomas a Blazer?
consider this?
If the Blazers decide to pursue a trade that would benefit us now and in the future, I cast my vote for Tyrus Thomas. Young and a desire to defend the paint...
He gives us a solid back up presence for LA and also can play the 5 spot with Juwan Howard. After reading the post on trying to trade for Eddy Curry and Jordan hill, this idea of snagging Thomas from the bulls came to mind.
I actually like the Blazers a little smaller. They seem to move better and attack the basket more often. All too often do the Blazers rely on the big guys to clog the lane and do everyone's dirty work for them. Playing a bit smaller forces them to play together more on defense.
Chicago trades Thomas to the Blazers for Outlaw. Throw somefillers to match salaries if needed...
But at the end of the day i like what the Blazers have and would not like to part with any of them;)
Starters
Roy, Webster, Howard, Miller, Aldridge
Reserves
Bayless, Fernandez, Thomas, Pendergraph, Cunningham
When Nicholas Batum returns, then we bring him off the bench moving Dante to 3rd string and allow Batum time to acclimate. When fully capable, he can replace Webster in the starting line up if he is not doing a good job by then.
NOTE: Blake is on the block in my eyes and should be shopped for the Big Baby or Robin Lopez

I like how he plays
That be said, I think he could be a locker-room cancer. (something that I’d rather avoid)
Trade for a cross-eyed head case?
No thanks. KP had the wisdom to unload this bundle of talent & attitude on draft day. Do you seriously think he’d turn around and acquire him now?
BTW, I loved watching LMA toy with TT during their first NBA matchups. You could tell that TT was itching to outplay LMA to prove that the Blazers had made a mistake. And you could tell that LMA knew that TT had that itch.
So time & time again, LMA headfaked TT, and TT jumped into the rafters trying for a humiliating shot block. LMA would calmly can the shot every time while TT watched helplessly from midair. It was like watching Bugs Bunny toy with Daffy Duck in those Warner Bros cartoons. I almost expected to hear TT tell LaMarcus, “Shoot me now! Shoot me now!”

More thoughts on Thomas
I admit that I have the same hesitation about his attitude. But We have LA and TT could be useful if his attitude is controlled. KP did the right move and now we can have both. Im glad he got showed up by LA, Shows to me, he is trying to prove himself. Really he has not gotten a fair deal in Chicago under their management team. If he gets out of line, he will get bench slapped by NATE DOGGIE. He is probably what a guy like Thomas needs anyway… NATE is a mentor to these young players. Tyrus Thomas needs a mentor and he will be fine in the NBA.
NOTE: I want to see a bit more of PT out of him this year now that he is back. Talent alone I would like to see him in a Blazer uniform.
Is he really cross eyed? LOL
You do realize we almost had him
But then we wisely traded for LMA.

As an energy guy off the bench who can block a shot and score if needed
I like him. Of all the trade stuff that gets floated, this one actually makes some sense and could help the team fill an immediate need and a need down the road as well. He’s a bit of a head case, but, from everything I’ve read, hardly a cancer.

Yes I am aware of the draft day trade that KP pulled off. I would take LA over Thomas any day of the week. This post is for the idea of getting a young athletic player to play the 4 or 5 position.
Look, Beasley is a head case and he is working out his issues. So would I suspect Thomas of doing under the caring management in Portland.
He is a starting power forward with the capabilities to help an organization. he brings grit in which we lost with Joel going down.
As with any player nowadays. I it does not work out we trade him for another piece…
I prefer Travis' far more polished offensive game
to Tyrus’ inability to score outside of 2 feet.

Sorry but it doesn't make any sense for Chicago
They trade one expiring contract for another, and they get the more injured player (this year).
Chicago is not going to cut into their 2010 cap space to re-sign Outlaw.

If I were them I would not do the deal
from a player evaluation standpoint. TT has had some good playoff outings, something that TO has not done. Also, three words: defense, shot-blocking, and rebounding.
The only way I see something like this happening is if he just flat out wears out his welcome.

Thomas could be a nice banger long term, but
Desire to defend the paint? I have some doubts. It seems like more of a desire to make the top 10 with one good block, followed by lots of mediocre play, then a top 10 dunk. His shot blocking ability is very nice due to his athleticism, but his post defense doesn’t seem consistent. He is good on the boards, I’ll give him that.
At 6 foot 9, I’d rather he not play center, because that’s not much better than Dante or Pendergraph at the C. Not to mention, I don’t want him influencing those two, or hindering their development. Finally, I have the belief that either of those two can become similar players. Pendergraph has a good edge to him, and had a sweet block in the last game.
To be fair, he is on the Bulls, and the only people who try to win on that team are Noah and Rose, with splashes of Deng.
paul millsap
blazers lack of low post hustle and millsap would fix that. but as a matter of fact blazers should trade LA, webster and rudy for chris bosh and that’s it.
And if he walks this summer?
Too big a risk to trade for Bosh, IMO.

And Millsap is probably 6-7
That’s why he fell to the second round: he was deemed undersized for a power forward. Of course, that’s moot because he has long arms, a wide body, quickness, toughness, and a nose for the ball.

I think he would be a good fit
For the right price. He doesn’t need the ball, rebounds, and is committed to protecting the paint.
If there’s one thing Dennis Rodman taught me its that you can never underestimate the value of giving quality wing players extra cracks at the basket. No Tyrus is not dennis, but specialists can have a value that seems disproportionate when looking at their weaknesses.

he does block shots and provide a little weakside help
but that’s the only advantage over travis, he is more inconsistent, less stable, and not clutch, so for the price, travis is a much better deal.

On Robin Lopez
If he could play, he would get minutes. Phoenix needs a big not named Frye in the worst way.
He's a nice fit on the court
But I think he would cause some woes to our already shaky chemistry. Maybe though, just maybe.
In Roy we believe.
