12/23 Jay Dee - Dinner Date edition

I was thinking of the first time I actually spent time with a BEdger IRL.  I recall the moment began in a JD, and Prezofdeath was asking for recommendations on places to have dinner at.  Prez ended up choosing my recommendation (Apizza Scholls) and asked me to join him....and the rest is history.

Speaking of history...if you could have a drink or go out to dinner with any person who would it be with?  Why?  How about anybody that is alive now?  Which BEdger do you wanna get to know better that you haven't had the chance to get to know yet?  Tell us about where you would go and what you would order.  Any burning questions that you will ask them?

Deceased person you would dine with?

Alive person you would dine with?

BEdger you would dine with?

I would throw back a few with any of you right now

Seriously, I broke out the scotch again tonight..

Oh and I hope I wasn’t the only one who noticed that Dwight Jaynes had more than one drink in front of him during “Talking Ball”.

I can't usually

This is cask strength stuff (bought duty free in the Puerto Vallarta airport last year) so usually I have to dilute it. I was so numb tonight I just threw back a shot without doing so.

Only one though, had we lost it would have been at least five, and then I would have been passed out on the floor with visions of a happy Mark Cuban haunting me for days.

This was me at halftime of the Houston game

Think: “I NEED SEVERAL DRINKS” (look at prices remember that I’d have to take out a large loan to get drunk at a sport event)

Choose to buy 2 large orders of fries instead.

anyone alive: it’s between christopher walken or MF DOOM. i have a ton of questions i would like to ask both. Probably i would go with DOOM, cause there really isn’t much written about him and he seems like he would have a really interesting story

anyone dead: my uncle morgan. He died when i was a baby and from what i have heard me and him where a lot a like so i would like to meet him.

bedger i would dine with: whoever is older between SO and jscot(he’s old right?). I like to talk to old people, they have better stories.

I was thinking about what historical figure to get a drink with

and then a thought occurred to me. Why would any of the great, influential people want to have a drink with me? I’d probably bore the heck out of them or be smitten with hero worship.

I think it would be really difficult to have a conversation with someone like Einstein or Da Vinci (language barrier aside) because it would be so one sided. I’ve never met a celebrity so I really have no idea how I would treat someone famous.

I loved his translations of Rudy’s performances, and he even bought me a Rudy jersey from Spain. It’d be fun to have him order authentic Spanish Tapas dishes at Toro Bravo.

I know you mean one of the Spanish BEdgers girls, but I'll answer anyways...

For us, proud Spanish people, dinners (food in general) are very, very important. But the most important thing in the world is “fiesta”. Partying all night long (that’s the standard) with a Spaniard can be much more fascinating than just a dinner, I tell you.

On a different note, the cultural exchange in these blogs is amazing. I’m learning so much about the Americans and the American society that my whole perspective has changed 180º (or even more!).

And the ones that get C’s turn around and get A’s in college.
However all the people I knew in high school that got A’s, also got A’s in college.
But I here about that grade reversal phenomenon all the time.

Who cares

The game and team will change if we get a dynamic stud like that!

I want to “tank” the same way we did it in 06-07, where we played hard and did the best we could but still ended up with a nice draft pick even if we didn’t win the lottery.

We shouldn’t tank, but we should see what we have on the bench.

I can’t see beating Roy to death this year.
I want to see more of Cunningham, etc.
Everyone’s enthralled with Bayless right now, but I’d like to see if he can get rid of driving himself into a black hole with no place to get rid of the ball.

Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."

I'm going on a Dave boycott until AK1984 is brought back.

by Philthyanimal on Dec 23, 2009 2:00 AM PST up reply actions

I think that'd be pointless

Oden is the best chance at being GREAT, not a Wade-type… if he is indeed going to be a Wade type.

#52

by Mortimer on Dec 23, 2009 2:02 AM PST up reply actions

If anything

You trade the perimeter player for Wall, not the Oden.

#52

by Mortimer on Dec 23, 2009 2:02 AM PST up reply actions

I might do that also.

Roy has oodles more trade value than Oden now. You simply can’t ignore his injury history. If you could get a Wade type for him, you pretty much have to do it.

I would trade Oden for Wall and possibly Roy for Wall but not both.

#52

by jksnake99 on Dec 23, 2009 2:03 AM PST up reply actions

Yes, you can't ignore his injury history

But the point is to win titles, not to have the safest most likely pick for a good player.

A Wade type does not win titles without a dominant big— even though Shaq was at the end of hi career, their title was fluky in addition to being based around a great guard and dominant-still big.

Getting Wall, without having ANY good bigs, means nothing. So we’d be for-sure better than we’d be without Oden… who cares? That ain’t the point.

Titles are the point. Oden gives us the best shot at it, through his position and style of play. No guard does.

#52

by Mortimer on Dec 23, 2009 2:06 AM PST up reply actions

I doubt anyone who can get Wall would do the trade anyways

For the same reasons we wouldn’t… Oden means more to us than to them, and samesies for their #1 pick.

#52

by Mortimer on Dec 23, 2009 2:07 AM PST up reply actions

I love Roy but Wall is special. Way more explosive than Roy.

I feel very comfortable saying the team that gets the #1 pick would not trade it for Roy.

#52

by jksnake99 on Dec 23, 2009 9:22 AM PST up reply actions

They would be fools not to

The thing everyone fails to take into account is that the draft is a crap shoot……even sure-fire can’t miss locks sometimes have issues (microfractures, broken patellas so forth) . This is the very reason KP would never even consider trading Roy for the #1 straight up. Never..ever..ever. He knows what he has got with Roy…..the real deal…no guessing…no wishing..he has it…right here

Didn’t the Sixers sign a big free agent who got injured for the whole season? How does Miller stay healthy? I think he somehow transfers his injuries to his teammates. He’s some sort of ninjutsu or using black magic on our players.

I don't know

some people just don’t get injured I guess. I’m fortunate enough to be one of those people. In 10+ years of competitive running I never once had an injury. I never even had to ice or take advil for swelling. I only spent time in the training room waiting for teammates to be done. It’s not like I did anything different from anyone else.

I’ve never broken anything ever. I’m just a healthy guy I suppose.

Who knows....I have been toying with blasting anyone who mentions "tanking"

for better draft postion….I launched the first salvo in Jscot’s thread

i can't believe people even mentioned that word.

don’t people remember what happened with the Celtics tried to tank for Oden? It’s BAD JUJU, PEOPLE!!

But not until they when the right way

and mortgaged their future

yeah exactly.

the tanking didn’t work so they traded for old people to win one ring. they might get another one this year, but i doubt it. tanking is never a good idea.

But we can get John Wall

okay so the strategy is

1. Tank
2. Win draft lotto
3. Draft Wall

And if we don’t win the draft lotto, then we will mortgage our future.

The Blazers now are still better than the Nets

that's true.

but all you need is a chance in the lottery. and the Blazers will probably have that.

by DrivetheLane on Dec 23, 2009 8:23 AM PST up reply actions

I hope not

I still want the playoffs

i admire your optimism.

i think the playoffs would be a miracle that would involve Nate winning COY and Roy winning MVP.

I don't think it is that bad (not good but not that bad)

I could see us still there. A lot depends on the youngsters now …Pendy, Dante and Toliver …..if even one of them shows to be a stud on the defensive end ….we would be right there. Plus when Rudy gets back and we get a bit more 2nd unit mojo…..who knows. The point is to not stop trying to get every single game

They gotta trade now

They got like 50 point guards

trade is less likely now, in my opinion.

not worth trading just to finish .500 or just to lose in the first round of the playoffs.

by DrivetheLane on Dec 23, 2009 8:30 AM PST up reply actions

Nah

It won’t be for a superstar, but they gotta get another center

I think so as well.

We are way too diluted on the perimeter. Try to get a youngish big to help out for one of the point guards…

perfect for the 5 guard lineup

The league won’t know what hit them when they have to face that.

the only way it happens is if one of the young guys

can prove he’s the defensive presence and rebounding machine Joel is. That’s the only way.
