I vote we coat Brandon Roy in bubblewrap. Lots and lots of bubblewrap.
"We Believe" - Rudy Fernandez
I like Barrett's comment to B. after the game
“you’re not allowed to get injured”
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
Well, I said I didn't care if we won
But that was a pretty gutsy win.
Roy says the wins are bittersweet… exactly right.

This team has heart
They may not have 5 healthy players by season’s end but I will NEVER NEVER NEVER doubt their heart.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Please don't start bringing up hearts
You’re tempting fate! Isn’t two busted centers enough?
Whatever happens the rest of the year
This win, this gutsy win, cemented me to this team for good once again.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I am crying right now
Both in Joel’s pain and in relief.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
i weep 4 joel
I look at you n see you layin’ there hurtin’
While this fan gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see you there cringin’
while this fan gently weeps
I don’t know how nobody fouled you
how to unfold you Joel
I don’t know how something hurt you
it broke and sold you
I look at the Blazers and I notice they’re turning
still this fan gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still this fan gently weeps
I don’t know how you were injured
you weren’t expected too
I don’t know how you were inverted
no one alerted you
I look at you n see the love there that’s sleeping
While this fan gently weeps
I look at you and I see you
Still this fan gently weeps

geez how did we win tonight? amazing.
Good to see Bayless playing down the stretch. He didn’t play well, but this is the time for him to make the mistakes and learn from them.
#52
He made an absoltue crucial steal
That unfortunately led to a charge but it was still a great play.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
true
he had the charge, a couple forced shots and that dangerous pass though. 4 bad offensive plays. I still like him out there though. “He can do some things.”

Bayless' defense on Terry in the closing minute was superb
Founder of the "Crash Batumcoot" Movement.
Was he the one that forced the miss?
I want to buy that guy a case of Widmer honestly.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Sure was
Made sure to keep tight on him and beat Terry to every spot and force him to the baseline. When Terry finally got a shot up, Bayless was neck and neck with him but stood straight up with his hands in the air to force an awkward fadeaway,

No! It was Blake guarding Terry when he drove to the hoop and missed the chance to tie with 6.8 seconds left.

I dunno he played well down the stretch, huge defensive plays and a some big buckets
got stung on a call that should have been a nocall at least. other than that he was awesome in the 4th. His movement disorganized dallas
The same way they'll have to win the rest of the year
just pulling it out somehow.

I thought he played good man defense
And aside from the 3, some ALMOST great offensive plays…
But he stuck right on Terry, which isn’t easy.

In all seriousness, he is playing better
He’s not a superstar, but he has been shooting better lately. His defense has been better.
That being said, we may need to trade him because we are team that has no centers.
we went from having the best C combination in the league
to having none at all…. not sure if there’s a word that describes that
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
Bingo
for once an apt application for that word

Blake's 3 ball late was huge
and he had several very notable defensive stops on Barea late as well, not to mention he was getting saddled off on Dirk off the Dallas pick and roll so why not give Blake credit when he deserves it… therefore you LCD’s that SUCK
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."

depends on what your goal is
plus, your and Jake’s opportunities for unremitting negativity are just beginning. I can’t wait!!!!!
3 wins so far is mind blowing
I was looking at this 6 game stretch when Batum was the only guy out and they were beating bad teams as a test of how good they’d be and what we could expect in the playoffs against good teams. Before the Suns game I thought one win was reasonable to expect and two would be overachieving. Being 3-1 so far is crazy. Without Joel I don’t know if they can finish above .500, but I didn’t think they’d do that on this trip and they have.

key of the game
outside Barea and Dirk they shot 12-51 (23.5%)
somehow when Barea came back to the game he wasn’t used in Pick and roll as much. They kind of went away with him
And we took the lead
When they took Dirk out for some reason in the 4th.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
And they shot like crap from the FT line
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
It was Blakes defense. Seriously. Barea was killing Bayless and Blake shut him down. Credit where credit is due.
not just Barea
Blake was getting pinched off the Barea/Nowitski pick and roll time after time and he either fought thru to cover Barea or played Dirk tightly as possible. Really feel Blake was doing all the little things tonight

You never know with ligament tears. At least Oden’s was a clean break. Oden will heal up fine, Pryz probably but less certain.

Its the kind of injuries that can kill a career, but
Joel isn’t a guy who relies on hops and speed. He uses power and position.
It might take 2 years but I think he’ll be back from this.
Who knows?
I think there’s a definitely a trade coming for a big now. The longer and longer we stay in playoff contention, bigger the chance of bringing someone to man the middle. At least, that is my guess.
Plus, guys are starting to trickle back in. We could be pretty healthy around the playoff time.
52 + 88 = 140% better team.
This would have been worse than the Houston loss
Since we almost never led that game, this game we led most of the way.

"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely

One might say “gutsy.”
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
Can we go small like the Warriors?
Anthony Randolph barely even qualifies for a big man. Look how skinny he is.
Mark another win up when Miller starts
And he’s starting when the schedule has gotten much tougher and the injuries keep coming.
I'm still upset at Miller
for making that first free throw rim around a couple times before dropping… he had that coy little grin on his face when Dallas called time out… NOT FUNNY ANDRE
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
It was one of 3 times they reacted, it seemed like.
That PA announcer’s constant blabbering has got to be banned.
#52
I'm gladded you brought that up
Isn’t that totally embarrassing for Mav’s fans to have to put up with their PA guy constantly trying to cajole them into cheering? The Atlanta PA guy does the same thing and it’s beyond annoying
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
Sad. Truly. Sad
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
And they don't even cheer when he tells them to.
He was the only one chanting “defense” at the end of the game.
At least ATL guy has an excuse
Hard to get an NBA arena with 3000 people to get loud.
52 + 88 = 140% better team.
They didn't do anything until the last minute
their PA guy only did the defense chant and nothing else to try and get them going. He’d be 2nd if they made bad PA power rankings behind Milwaukee.

I'm going to start paying more attention to this
So I can bring it up in other teams game threads
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
The Atlanta guy is the worst in my book.
Whenever a player hits a three-pointer, he shrieks like a prepubescent girl.
“Joe Johnson for THREEEEEEE!”
I liked the Heat PA guy
I laughed whenever Brandon would score he would quitely as possible and with the slightest inflection of disgust mention “Brandon Roy.”
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
Yeah, I half believed there were two different guys.
I wonder if that could be done. One guy calling the offensive scores and another expressing complete revulsion when the other team makes a shot.
Oh, Wheels wanted to THROTTLE the PA guy
As much as he wanted to murder the ref that kept falling for Barea’s flops.
But there’s no better beatdown than watching a smug look melt away with the early exit of the crowd.
by conspirator5 on Dec 22, 2009 8:54 PM PST up reply actions
Someone correct me if I'm wrong
That PA guy is “Humble” Billy Hayes who used to be at Z100 in the early 90’s.
No joke!
How do they play well at home. Their crowd was serioously quiet.
Norsk would know more
But I’ve heard that before about Dallas games, that most go not for the team but the restaurants and socialness of going to the game.
#52
He still got the least minutes though.
And Blake still had the most. It’s so backwards, but at least Miller gets our starting unit going.
This team never quit so I'm not quitting on this team.
What a gutsy win.

Brandon shrugged off any injury talk… he said he was sore but no big deal

by the way, which one is his shooting shoulder?
I forget.

Right.
An injury to the left shoulder will affect him, because he does like to finish with his left hand, but injuring his right shoulder would be a lot worse.
if you look at it we still have ten players
but if you look at it some more only 5 of those guys would be in the playing rotation if we had everybody. and thats assuming martell is still relevant once nic blossoms

I would release Tolliver and sign Shav to help at the 4, while bringing in Jones as a center. We need a defensive shot-blocker in a bad way.

contigent on league approval tho right?
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
Shav is a decent option because he knows the team and the system.
I’m not sure how effective he’d be, on the other hand.
This team doesn't quit
So I won’t quit on them.

Pride
the team has really pulled together and refused to get down. Their resilience is admirable. Go Trail Blazers!!
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
I can root for a team that loses
As long as they go down guns blazing.

We are who we were last year mostly
And that’s okay with me.

Ha is a joke
I always cracked myself up with that one

I didn't see the game. What did I miss?
Just kidding. I recorded it and just finished watching. Oh my. What horrible luck for this team. I feel awful for all the injured guys. Staring down at all those injured comrades, though, it’s nice to see the rest of the team put out the effort to get a hard win. Well done.
And whoever you are- put down that Blazer voodoo doll, please.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
it's prolly kobe

Condolences from a Rockets fan
Obviously I know what its like to lose a center for the season. Sucks that yall have lost two now, but thanks for beating Dallas tonight. Now you get to find out how good your front office is under adversity like us down in Houston have.

the front office has no moves to make, they are missing six players right now. I hope they don’t sacrifice talent to make this year slightly more successful.

I wish this comment could be pasted at the top of the front page
And at the top of every fanpost and fanshot.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
I think it's a fairly well appreciated understanding by Blazer fans
sure we love winning but I doubt abybody is ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
Some people get it. Some don't
Clearly we’re not winning a championship this year, but a lot of people don’t seem to get that you can sacrifice a year for better times ahead.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
you're preaching to the choir man

trouble is
Portland still has 50+ games to play, and Brandon/LMA are going to have to gut them all out. At some point KP is going to have to look them both and Nate in the eyes and tell them that he can’t make a deal that will help them win games this year. In fact, the best plan now is to deal either Blake or Miller for a young PF/C because it’s going to be awhile before GregZilla is rampaging around the NBA, again
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
thanks TxH
sorry to hear about Landry… thoughts are with him as well…
"In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
He came back tonight
had a career high 38 min and tied his career high with 27 points on only 10 shots

we could use Landy…. any chance we could borrow him the rest of the season?

no way sorry
we need him badly as well

And he bounced right back from that shooting
If I were half as tough as him, I’d start cage fighting. Tonight.

Thanks. Our gift to you. I hope to give you a second gift tomorrow.
I think most Blazer fans admire the Rockets more than ever this year. You guys are an inspiring team. We will see if we can match you guys in short-handed play!

Joel is so awesome. I'm bummed for him.
I hope to not see any more pics of his blasted up knee on the blog.
Please?

verbalizing them only causes it to materialize

Just to be clear
I NEVER WANT ANOTHER PLAYER TO GET HURT THIS YEAR, EVEN IF WE WIN THE GAME!

I gotta say
I prefer rooting for a team that is extremely talented with the potential to be great, but currently gutted from injuries, over a team that is mentally weak enough to lose that sort of lead at home, and a front office you can’t trust to even care.

For Blazer fans the rest of the season is a gimmie. if they lose 40 more games, no reason to feel bad,
but every win is a tribute to their growth and guts. This is the bottom of the barrel. Things are looking up.
I want the basketball gods to tell me
This is our injuries for the rest of Roy’s career.

Blogabull is always good for a chuckle
I can’t believe how poorly the Bulls are playing. Yikes.
I’m pretty fond of the Bulls, but for some reason it is pretty fun watching them lose.
