Clyde's Stats
People talk about how good are Shooting Gaurd is...Look at this guys stats...And then look at Terry Porters while your there those guys killed it...we dont even have a point guard as good a Terry was...We need a Terry Porter or a Rod Strickland type...then we can talk playoffs and championships..

I was a big advocate of trading for Nash this past summer
for which I was routinely flogged here on the ‘Edge. Oh well, that’s life.
As to the OP, you have to remember that those two guys played in an era where the game was MUCH more wide open and faster paced than it is now, and played on a team that was consistently near the top of the pace race even then. So, raw stats are a bit misleading.
That said, both were great players, no doubt.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

Not yet
Duck was not as active or mobile but he was a master at setting screens and he had an excellent jumper. For Greg the sky is the limit but he isn’t to Duck’s level yet. They both have/had a lovable personality.

that team was also a much higher paced team
bayless leaves over my dead body
Start Bayless (in a 2 guard lineup)
if you should strike Oden down he will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine

Can someone give a rational explanation of why blake plays 36 minutes a game?
yes Pace matters a ton! They played way faster in the 80-early-90s.
actually, look at Clyde’s best year and compare it to Roy last year:
Age PER TS% eFG% TRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG% ORtg DRtg OWS DWS WS
25 24.1 0.564 0.509 9.4 23.5 3.1 1 10.9 28 118 106 9.3 3.9 13.2
24 24 0.573 0.512 7.9 25.4 1.7 0.6 9 27.4 123 109 10.9 2.6 13.5
Top is Clyde, circa 87-88, bottom is Roy last year.
Roy, according to two pace adjusted advanced statistics, roughly equaled Drexler’s best year ever. Roy is better on offense and not as good on Defense as Drexler was. Roy is a better shooter, doesn’t turn the ball over as much, but doesn’t get the blocks or steals like Drexler.
Roy, last year, was really, really good, and if we didn’t live in the era of LeBron, Wade, and Paul, Roy would have been a major MVP candidate. If Roy starts playing better D, he may get there anyways. This is also a testament to the sick, sick, sick level of basketball that is being played today. We are truly in a golden era.

Clyde, circa 87-88,

I was going back over these Blazer teams last week, when someone said how much superior Nate was to Mike Schuler as a coach. Schuler was a defensive assistant with the Bucks (to Don Nelson, ironically enough)) before he was hired to replace Jack Ramsay. The Blazer’s pace factor had increased from 13th to 7th to 3rd during Jack’s final 3 years, but the team wasn’t winning playoff series and the style had gotten so far away from Ramsay’s Walton teams that it was barely recognizable as being led by the same coach.
Schuler came in and taught the team how to “help” defend using rotations and flooding the strong side, and that just added more jet fuel to their engines, as Portland won their most games since ‘78, averaged a franchise-record 117.9 ppg and finished 3rd in pace factor in ’86-87. They were a pretty exciting unit to watch in those years, but I think the reason Clyde had his best “statistical” year in ’87-88 was because Kiki hurt his back and only played 37 games. Kersey took over at SF and the team averaged 116.1 ppg and was 2nd in pace factor. Of course, we all remember what happened the next year, and the playoff success during the Adelman years (following the Bowie-Williams trade) seemed to justify the decision to replace Schuler with "Clyde’s choice" of Rick as the head coach. But I think Mike is under-appreciated in how he prepared the young core of Blazers for the success that they enjoyed in the early ’90s
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
Didn't realize William Faulkner was a Blazer fan.
I’m a little confused by your hypothesis. Blazers never won a championship under Clyde… using the late 80s/early 90s era as a baseline is great and all, but why compare to previous generations? This team is a whole different animal.

Three Things
1. Clyde has great stats, but was not a leader or a crunch time player. While he was our best player, he also didn’t have what it took to get us that ring. Roy has that killer instinct that Clyde never had or really wanted. Roy just needs to work inside the team a little more, rather than be the team.
2. Terry Porter was arguably our best point guard of all time so we can’t expect an all-star at every position. And we shouldn’t need one at every position either.
3. Rod Strickland really isn’t that much better than Andre Miller overall. Look at their careers, they both have been just below all-star tier point guards. We just haven’t used Miller like that until maybe the Miami game.
Reminds me of my favorite Blazer Poster...
Where Terry Porter has the ball about mid court and Buck Williams is on the left wing and Clyde is on the right. The caption just says “Uh-Oh”.
My favorite too but it was Jerome not Clyde
I really want this current team to get that type of fearsome break. We have the athletes.

I'm not sure if this is how you do a link
There is a modern update which is cool but notice the angle of lean by Roy and Aldridge. Only Oden gives me an UH OH.

it really should have been Terry, Clyde, and Kersey
but it was a Nike poster, and Clyde was an Avia guy.
How did you guys win that?
