Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Nate needs to go. B-Roy/LA forgot why they got contracts.

I've met Nate. Very nice man. Very good person. Not the coach for this team anymore.

Nate's offensive sets are below NBA level. He stands on the sideline with one of two stances. Stance number one...arms crossed looking like he's analyzing the game. Stance number two... arms inside his suit on his hips looking bewildered. Neither is productive, neither is going to win us games.

Why does this team consistently start their offence with ten seconds to go? Why does this team not put their players in situations where they can succeed? Why does this team not have an edge? Four letter word....Nate.

Sure, Nate was a good player.  Nate played with passion; played with smarts. Neither of which has been passed on to our players.

Nate's substitution pattern is robotic and unintelligent. When a player is hot it doesn't matter, he takes them out according to his "plan". When a player is cold he plays them to satisfy their minute requirement. Man up Nate. Be a coach Nate. Ride a hot hand, sit a cold one. Everything doesn't have to be a script.

Coach with some passion Nate. Your players aren't playing with any and that comes from where? You!

A small note to a couple players...Hey Roy and LaMarcus. Congratulations on your contracts, I'm glad you don't have to play hard anymore. LaMarcus, keep taking those easy outside shots. Brandon, you're right, complaining to the refs does make a difference but stop playing soft and expecting the call. You can, and might be, a prolific scorer but there is a thing called defense too in case you forgot.

I've never seen such an underachieving team in Portland. It makes me want to watch the games on television instead of going to the games. I used to be proud to tell people I am a season ticket holder. That pride is starting to fade.

did you buy yourself a nice pair of season tickets just last year?
because your quote says it all my friend. my bandwagon friend.

i think he may have been a little over dramatic there

but I get what he is saying. For me I talked cheerily about being a season ticket holder. I still talk about it, but now there is a touch of sadness mixed in. Sympathetic looks and so forth. Not quite so cheery a conversation.

weird.

see if I was a season ticket holder I wouldn’t come off as sad at all. even if my starting point guard was telfair or juan dixon. Or if my starting center was przybilla. or anything at all. I would hold my head up high.

Weird is right.

So if you were a season ticket holder and we showed less than average effort that wouldn’t make you sad? You would just be happy to be at the games? I guess it’s just a social event for you then. But when I see a talented team constricted by their coach that makes me sad. When I see talent shadowed by a lack of effort that makes me sad. I guess you would just be happy being at the 20,000+ social event.

actually...

I don’t like going to the games as much as I used to.
You can’t buy 10 dollar tickets anymore and go sit in the 100 level section wherever you want.
Now ushers are telling you where your tickets are and bullcrap. now you actually have to shell out 50 bucks to sit in a decent spot! I miss 21-61. I’m sure you kind of do too brannon. In a way?

Poor baby

So you can’t buy tickets then sit in better seats. Oh my, sorry you can’t cheat the system anymore. Are you saying it sucks to have to sit in the seats you actually spent money on? Are you also pissed that you can’t use food stamps to buy booze? If you want good seats, pay for them. Stop hoping for a handout.

It's not a handout if rich folks don't use them.

LOL! now there’s just a lot more rich folks that see the value in blazer tickets. ;)

and the ushers enforce that.

which blows cause nice seats go totally unused because some corporate guy from the evil corporations got gifted that seat from his evil corporation but he’s too busy to attend his local teams game cause he’s on a conference call with his corporation. and global warming too!!!

by GoBlaze22 on Dec 2, 2009 12:51 AM PST up reply actions

I'm not rich.

I save money so I can get my seats each year. I pay a good price too. And because I do pay that price, I have a (small) right to criticize this team when they play below (what I see as) their potential.

Since you are this awesome fan who can criticize other people’s posts, I look forward to you buying your own big boy tickets and not trying to sit in someone elses.

4th year as a season ticket holder...

…and before that I went to 8-10 games a year. To call me a bandwagon fan is ignorant of you. I followed this team during the “J—-B—-” years. You know what years I’m talking about. And I didn’t, and nor will I, stop loving this team. But as a passionate fan, I do have the right to express my opinion. You don’t know my passion for this team. You don’t see the pain and the joy that this team brings out in me whether it be in person or watching at home.

If you disagree with my analysis fine….just don’t criticize my love for this team.

ok your fandom is genuine.

but why would you say that your pride is starting to fade? You of all people who have stuck with this team through the jailblazer years should know that character counts for a lot. shouldn’t you be ecstatic with Nate, brandon, L.A. Oden., blake, webster, outlaw, batum, and all the rest instead of patterson, randolph, wells, sheed (whom I’m fine with by the way) Darius, and qyntel woods?

Most of my original post was about the lack of effort and lack of coaching. Of course I’m happy with their character (especially given our past). But character also manifests itself in effort and I’m not seeing a lot of that.

Watch the offense. Look at the talent.

Yes, three in a row. Maybe jumping the gun, but this has been a problem for a couple years now. We fight the shot clock all the time. We get out-worked in the paint. We substitute according to “Plan” and not need. All those things are coach related.

by Brannon49 on Dec 2, 2009 12:54 AM PST up reply actions

Nate's problems aren't new.

Yes we’ve improved over the last few years, but it has little to do with Nate. Honestly, most decent coaches would have had an improvement with this team. You get BRoy, LA, Oden, and Rudy within 2 years from the draft and give up nothing, but your troublemakers. That’s getting 4 potential all-star talents, 3 of which have the talent potential to even start in the all-star game at some point in their careers, and you’re able to get rid of your problem players at the same time? Of course you’re going to improve. Nate came at the right time and now it’s the right time for him to leave.

Hey GoBlaze22

Sorry we seem to be arguing with one another. I think we both want the same thing with our team. Yes, I’m a little irritated with this (3rd in a row) loss. I do think my points are valid though. Let’s just agree that this team needs to get better however it can.

Let’s both, as fans, support the Blazers and maybe some day we’ll both attend a championship parade!

This is a good quote from Brannon49's post.

When a player is cold he plays them to satisfy their minute requirement. Man up Nate. Be a coach Nate. Ride a hot hand, sit a cold one. Everything doesn’t have to be a script.

I might say this to Nate if I conjured up the balls and remembered the lines. I would’nt run up to him screaming “FIRE NATE!”

I too would like to see him react to the game

I understand having planned rotations as a rough guideline, but you shouldn’t stick to them regardless of what happens on the court. I’m starting to worry that he does this because he can’t do things on the fly, like someone reading our his preplanned notes when talking to a girl on the phone, but after the first thing she says is “Do you want to come over?” you keep reading the paper awkwardly trying to make preplanned small talk.

Your confusing thesis has captured my attention. Tell me more.

I'm all Nate going but

who do we replace him with? What would it take to get Adelman? Who is my 1st choice. Avrey? JVG? One thing I like about Jeff Van Gundy is he will protect our players and his passion will rub off onto the players. Remember NY V Miami?

by VinnyB on Dec 2, 2009 3:10 AM PST reply actions

Put in Monty Williams as Interim

and look for another coach to replace McClueless…
Jeff Van Gundy is not a coach I would bring in at all.
Adelman would be nice, but he has a contract with Houston and I doubt that Adelman would even “try” to get out of the contract.

Monty would work as a good interim, we need to stop the bleeding before the wound gets too big.
