@dwightjaynes not a peep about Bayless? Need some ketchup with that Crow?
EDIT:

Jerryd Bayless — what a night
December 18th, 2009 by Dwight Jaynes | Filed under NBA, Trail Blazers.
Man, that was the game of his dreams. I was very impressed. The big thing for Bayless is the outside shooting. If he can knock down three-pointers and hit that pull-up jump shot from the foul line, he’s going to be an outstanding player. Honestly, I didn’t think I’d see that out of him.
But you’ve been reading here, so you know that.
There are several questions now, of course. First off, is this the real Jerryd Bayless? Can we expect to see this kind of thing moving forward or is he just riding a hot streak? Should he be starting? Why hasn’t he played more, if this is what he’s capable of? Can he avoid fouls consistently the way he did last night? He took a lot of charges and most of the calls went his way — will that continue?
All good questions. What do you think?

All of Jaynes' comments are legitimate ones.
Consistency is going to be tough for him given his current role.

Sidepedaling is all the rage
Since there is ultimately no acccountability in radio/television/print these days, the most you’ll ever get from talking heads is a side pedal. They don’t eat crow. They glance at the crow (“what a night…I didn’t think I’d see that out of him”) and then draw your attention to something else (e.g. a bunch of questions about whether the last two games where an abberation), while slowly sliding the crow out of view with their off hand.
Now he’ll slowly start sidling up to Bayless over time (in a non-commital sort of way) and hope the world forgets he used to shout from the rooftops that Jerryd couldn’t possibly pan out.
Now, for my part, I’m wrong most the time. Crow, like peanut butter and pride, does tend to stick in your gullet, but you can get it down if you have to. I just try not to predict to vigorously for the most part. That being the case, I don’t eat much fillet minion (i.e the right to say “I told you so!”), but I don’t have to choke down all that much crow either. I guess I’m just your basic pork chop guy.
I love what Bayless did last night.
But Jaynes is right in that we need to see him show up consistently. Granted, he hasn’t had the opportunity yet. But if we take such a limited sample size, we could also have annointed Anthony Morrow of the Warriors as the next NBA Superstar last year after a few good games.
Don’t get me wrong. I hope Bayless continues to play at this level and win the Blazers games like last night. But telling Jaynes that he is avoiding eating crow is a little early.

Jaynes admitted he was wrong
Note the rest of the quote:
Honestly, I didn’t think I’d see that out of him. But you’ve been reading here, so you know that.
I’m not a big Jaynes fan, or anything, but I think that’s a pretty good admission that he was wrong about Bayless. His job is to have an opinion. Sometimes those opinions are wrong. And that’s fine. The question is how somebody deals with their initial opinion being wrong. Jaynes did a very nice job of saying he was wrong, and that Bayless has real potential. His questions are legitimate ones, and they’re the ones we should be asking as we look to the future.
Being a bit hard on Dwight...
He admitted he didn’t expect this, gave JB his props, and then brought up some good questions.
Seriously, I love Bayless and have wanted to see his minutes rise, so I was as stoked as anyone last night – but come on, 1 big game, against a team known for playing no D. Let’s see what Rex does against the Magic before we start crowning him the next Brandon ;^)
Eeek, looks Iike I'll be enjoying some crow a la carte, after all
I was kinda making an overall indictment of the media’s lack of accountability overall and using Dwight as fodder for my skewer (and just having a little fun). I guess I could have chosen a better example…and, yes the questions about the reliability of Jarryd’s game going forward are legit.
I stand by assertion that most sports media folk are entirely to loud, adamant and certain about their predictions, but tend to be quiet, elusive and rationalizing when said predictions go awry.
I guess I could have chosen a better example…Gulp (swallows crow).
I think Dwight just calls it like he sees it....
sometimes he is right sometimes he is wrong.
Sure, I posted the crow thing BEFORE he posted the article btw.
So there is the context.
Also, in response, I posted “That’l do, journalist, that’l do.”
