RG Comes Alive! J-Bay Coronation! And Avery Watts clowner...
OK, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Rose Garden was freaking rocking tonight at theSuns game! I've been to roughly 45 games in the last three years, but the energy from the crowd was the loudest I can remember from a non-playoff game at the RG tonight!
I thought the noise the crowd generated was unbeliveable and the atmosphere was electric. After the Blazers took the lead 94-92 and there was a TV timeout that lasted roughly four-five minutes the crowd sustained its noise and energy throughout the whole timeout which was just awesome! I noticed that much of the wine-and-cheese crowd was standing for the majority of this as well which is always pleasing to see. I had a headache, a lost voice, and my hands hurt from all the yelling/screaming/jumping/clapping I was doing during that fourth quarter. All in all a good night!
And just so I don't get completely off Blazer topic, Jerryd Bayless has just earned himself tons more PT with his last two games of effort. The kid is electric. He is the only PG who is currently attacking the basket. Him and Roy were flawless together tonight and the Suns defense clearly could not account for the two of them on the court at the same time. I thought it was extremely telling that, as Dave just noted in his recap, Bayless was able to run sets in the second half even with Roy and Blake on the court at the same time. I hope that this is a sign of things to come because he clearly has the ability, confidence, and backing from his teammates to repeat this output again and again.
I think that his performance just made Miller absolutely trade-able, you can roast me for that take but I just can't watch Miller and Roy interact on the court. When I watched Miller wave off Roy on a possession in Milwaukee, I wanted to break my TV. How can you wave off a two-time All-Star team leader? Ugh. I am convinced, Miller doesn't fit, but I know for now he is a nice insurance policy so I won't complain too loudly.
Also, kudos to the man who was clowning hardcore on that halftime act Avery Watts. Whoever you are, man, you were HILARIOUS. The guy was sitting in the Rip City Row right above Avery Watts' ridiculous concert thing and he was faux-metal-heading throughout the whole lip-synced set. I was rolling in the aisles, it was absolutely priceless and they kept showing it on the big screen! Also, that SAME GUY was the guy who got picked for the Fred Meyer price challenge thingy!! Absolutely the funniest guy I've seen at a Blazers game in a long time.

bayless leaves over my dead body
Start Bayless (in a 2 guard lineup)
if you should strike Oden down he will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine

Can someone give a rational explanation of why blake plays 36 minutes a game?
Btw I can identify with the TV timeouts
TNT’s are BY Far the worst. ESPN’s are only about a minute longer, TNT’s are twice as long it seems.

I was at home
But when Bayless hit that shot to put us up for good, I heard the roar and thought to myself that was as loud as I’ve ever heard it.
Well deserved of course, our first signature win of the year.

A rocking concert for us all...
I mean, this guy, Avery Watts kept trying to act hardcore throughout his two songs by rattling his head back and forth like Wayne and Garth do in the first Wayne’s World movie (his “singing” caused me to look up at the scoreboard at least 3935894 times praying halftime was almost over). I felt sorry for the 300-level row that won tickets to Watts’ concert. When the PA guy said “Portland’s Own…” after the songs were done, I heard a murmur all around me as if to say “I don’t want to be associated with Screamo Blondie in any way.” Thank goodness for the great game.
but the energy from the crowd was the loudest I can remember from a non-playoff game at the RG tonight!
I was at the playoff games last year versus Houston and my first thought tonight was WOW, this was the loudest night ever I’ve ever seen at the Rose Garden, without a doubt. It was crazy.
I’ve venture to say this is the loudest the Rose Garden has ever been. The speakers were rocking pretty loud but the crowd was so loud you couldn’t hear the speakers!
I'd Hold Off On The Coronation
I’d love to say that he’s going to be playing at the level he did last night every game — but he shot 60%. We needed him to shoot all 60%, too, because otherwise we probably lose this game if he misses just one of his shots.
I’m willing to believe that he has developed — but I’m not quite ready yet. I’d like to see him put in a few more performances like this and I’ll believe it.
It was great to see him have a coming out party, but I’m a little too pessimistic by nature to say “He has arrived!” I will say, though, this it is nice to see him playing as well as he has lately. I’m now convinced that he’s going to be the PG of the future.
last year was pretty freaking loud too
I was at last year’s Phoenix game where Brandon went for 52 and keyed the win late. Last night was loud, but I think that game was just as loud. I agree that the Bayless corner three was the “OMG WE”RE GOING TO F-ING WIN THIS!" moment for the crowd. What fun. I pick good games to go to (3-0 so far this year, Minnesota, Houston #2 and now Faux-nix.
