2009-12-17: The All-You-Can-Junk Drawer
This is a good guy I want to lose tonight.
Insert random throwaway JD theme here.
So what is the best and worst thing about buffets or "all-you-can-eat/drink/anything" deals? Are there some things you don't think you could ever get tired of? Or will having the option of "all-you-can" always quickly lead to "no-more-i-want"?
Most importantly, can you really ever have too much of a good thing? or does saying that you can mean that it wasn't that good of a thing?

Yeah, I was trying to make my poll as bad as I possibly could.
I really wanted no decent answer that anyone would agree with or, on the other side, every answer to be completely agreeable. I didn’t actually pull off either, so I grade myself with a FAILED FAIL.

Exactly!
I think. If I did not win at failing, then do I automatically win at succeeding, or could I fail to fail and fail to win, simultaneously, and fall into some interdimensional vortex I will never be able to escape until five minutes before the episode is over.

Do you think Miller sucks?
Yes, he’s the worst player ever
No, he is really bad and a crappy fit for the blazers, but I don’t think he sucks
But what about..
No, ‘sucks’ doesn’t cover how much I hate Miller’s playing.

Dunno how many guys there are in the NFL, but if I were making a "Most Likely to Die Young" list, Henry would have been in the top 3 or so...
"A bizarre and extremely rare hybrid Blazer/Laker fan, Timbo has always struggled to contain the Beast Within, like Dr. Jekyll, Bruce Banner, or Ted Kennedy." — Miled Animal
Speak no ill of the dead, etc., but this is from the link above...
* * *
Henry and former Tennessee cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones became the league’s two most trouble-bound players. Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended both in 2007 — Jones for a full season, Henry for half of it — as part of a toughening of the league’s conduct policy.
When Henry was arrested for a fifth time following that season on an assault charge, the Bengals decided they’d had enough. At his arraignment on April 3, 2008, Municipal Court Judge Bernie Bouchard called Henry “a one-man crime wave.” He was released by the Bengals the same day. * * *

I remember being impressed one of them at the Rio as well.
"oh dear god. Please be more irresponsible". - Claire
how recent was this?
i too heard good things about the rio’s buffet…but i heard they split the buffet into 2 separate buffets now…one with seafood (lobster). So you aren’t getting as much variety as u used to.
I'm going on a Dave boycott until AK1984 is brought back.
by Philthyanimal on Dec 17, 2009 10:21 AM PST up reply actions
Yeah, why do they always change good things?
I haven’t been to Vegas (outside of airport) in almost ten years now. I was looking at the rio’s website and they definitely separated their seafood (which made their buffet amazing back in the day) buffet from their “world” buffet. The combo was wicked. Variety is the spice of life, especially in Vegas. It’s only really enjoyable if you have just more than you can possibly hold on to at one time.
"oh dear god. Please be more irresponsible". - Claire
philthys trick
at 4 o clock the wynn converts from lunch to dinner…
so…i line up at 330 (on days with no line…earlier if its busy). pay lunch prices (usually at like low $20s)…then in like 10 or 15 mins they switch to dinner…and i’ve saved like 15-20 bucks off my meal. its a hell of a deal when you factor in king crab. then you take a plate of crab to the cook and ask them to steam it for you…bam!

"The problem is all inside Dre’s head", KP said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
I’d like to help you in your struggle to be free
There must be fifty ways to trade Andre Miller
He said it’s really not my habit to intrude
Furthermore, I hope my meaning won’t be lost or misconstrued
But I’ll repeat myself, at the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways to trade Andre Miller
Fifty ways to trade Andre Miller
You just trade for Jarrett Jack
Make a trade for a Serbian, man
He don’t fit with Roy, boy
Just listen to me
Put him on the bus, Gus
You don’t need to discuss much
Just trade for David Lee, please
And get Bayless free
Ooo trade him for snack, Jack
Make a new trade for Wade
You don’t need to tell Roy
Just listen to me
Just trade him for Thadus, Gus
Don’t need to discuss much
I’d even trade him for Yi, Lee
Get Bayless free
KP said it grieves me so to see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do to make you smile again
I said I appreciate that and would you please trade Miller, mayne
I can suggest about fifty ways
KP said why don’t we both just sleep on it tonight
And I believe in the morning you’ll begin to see the light
And then KP kissed me and I realized Nate probably was right
There must be fifty ways to trade Andre Miller
Fifty ways to trade Andre Miller
You just trade him for Kirk, Jerk
Make a move for Mo, Joe
You don’t need to warn Roy
Just listen to me
Miller’s a bust, Gus
Don’t need to discuss much
I’d trade Miller for a Wii, Lee
Get Bayless free
Trade him for a Magic Jack, Mac
Make a trade for Kaman, Stan
You don’t need to inform Roy
Just listen to me
Get Miller on the bus, Gus
You don’t need to discuss much
Just trade for Courney Lee, see
And get Bayless free

Lol, guys in Ben's post already hating on Tolliver before ever having seen him play.
Who did they expect, LeBron James? If the Blazers wanted exclusively a defensive big man then probably another guy would have been better, but having a versatile player as insurance against more injury problems, foul problems and for practice isn’t a bad move.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?

then these places aren’t for you….if you want sandwiches that are made with thought and a lot of labor intensive methods then yes these are great places.
everyone has had a meatball sammy or an italian meats sammy before, but bunk gathers high quality local ingredients and carefully makes sure they compliment each other and not overpower other things. the subtle complexity of their bread is much nicer than the bland flat breads you get from subway.

ya the owner is hella cool too
the prices are high on the sandwiches only bc of how much labor, quality, and quantity of meat that gets put in it. 1/4 of a sandwich is enough to get you full. its crazy.
they opened a second sandwich shop that is more comparable to the ones mentioned above called sandwich works

kenny and zukes has the best value.

Patty Mills seems to near his return. Will join Blazers on upcoming trip according to Brian T Smith.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
As will Prendergraph again
Maybe, if Patty turns at all all decent we can…trade Blake, praise Him let it be true.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Does Patty or Jeff coming back negate our 16th man?
"oh dear god. Please be more irresponsible". - Claire
Nope
Because we still have 4 players out.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
So both of them or one and Rudy coming back is necessary.
Has anyone mentioned when this exception has happened before?
"oh dear god. Please be more irresponsible". - Claire
Golden State got one this year. The guy who surprised everyone by checking Oden pretty good.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
Fairly common
Pretty sure Milwaukee got one last year when they had a similarly ridiculous injury situation to us.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
They seem to live in that situation year after year.
"oh dear god. Please be more irresponsible". - Claire
There are different injury exceptions in play, e.g. Houston got a different variety for Yao when he was ruled out for the year, and was able to absorb Ariza’s salary with that one.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
That's insurance
The Blazers had insurance for LaFrentz last year too since he was making big big $ but didn’t play a single minute.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
But we never signed a player with those exceptions for Greg and Raef - if we applied for one and got one granted which isn't know (at least to me)
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
I'm 98% sure we applied and got the exception, but didn't use it
I think you have to sign a player by a certain date for that particular exception. With so many young guys on the team needing minutes and practice, it may not have been worth it to add an extra body.
Yeah, we weren't lacking for players at all last year.
"oh dear god. Please be more irresponsible". - Claire

He's saying he hasn't given up coming back this year
I’m sorry Greg but given what happened to McDyess, who ended up missing TWO straight seasons with the same injury, I’d rather have you take more time off and come back awesome.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I think McDyess ruptured the patellar tendon too
which is far more severe than just a bone break like Greg had.

He also didn't have surgery
But point remains, #52 is still too young to risk another major injury by coming back early.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
but
there is no risk provided the patella is fully healed.

True
But his strength won’t be fully back. You and I both have seen the difference in Greg this year vs. last year when he had an offseason to bulk up and become awesome.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
actually
I thought part of the problem last year was that he was too bulked up in the upper body

Interesting. They brought in Bill Duffy as his agent…
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
One of the more powerful NBA agents
Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Rajon Rondo… On the Blazers Travis and Joel. Previously Greg was represented just by Mike Conley’s dad.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
But Conley's dad linked up with BDA (Bill Duffy's agency) almost as soon as he started getting clients.
Not sure Duffy’s officially Greg’s agent, but he certainly has better contacts (incl. medical ones) than Conley. It’ll be interesting to see who handles the upcoming contract negotiations.
Duffy now has the keys to 3 big upcoming ones for the Blazers
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
Who are the other 2 Norskie?

Yeah, and Wiki and the sites of the agents

Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
His agent should've been doing this a long, long time ago.
Maybe he has been, I don’t know. But a good agent is usually involved when it comes to the long-term health of the clients.
I started screaming YES YES YES YES YES when I read this
Oden, who was averaging 11.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 23.9 minutes this season, said he was in favor of a full physical review. "It’s something I’m aware of,‘’ he said. "We have some really good people here with nutrition and other [forms of support] in Portland. But it never hurts to look at another way of looking at things.’’

Canzano approves
“Mike and I are going to do a thorough analysis of every aspect of Greg’s physiology,‘’ Duffy told SI.com Thursday. "That means there will be no stone unturned in terms of really understanding his body — the balance of his body, the symmetry of his body, the strength of his bones. Every aspect as relates to nutrition, DNA, muscle mass, everything we can study, we’re going to dig into at this point.‘’
Duffy said he and Conley will seek out the best medical and training advice "around the world.’’
I expect them to get a ton of different opinions. And hopefully the end result will be that Greg feels good about his body, wears knee pads and we read about him working out in Chicago.

That's why he made the decision. Maybe he will ask for a buyout, though he probably will just collect the money and stay in shape.
On a top European team he could play a much bigger role with the offense going through him, which really will never happen in the NBA. Oh well, he has a ring (with Detroit) and some better stats than LeBron ;)
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
he's gonna play 1 on 1 with adrianna full time in stead
he should be able to penetrate on her with ease.

Hollinger on Turkoglu. Very funny.
The only way you’ll be able to trade him is if you want to get 30 cents on the dollar back … either that or you’re trading him for somebody else’s disappointment. Speaking of which, here’s one crazy thought I just had: Turkoglu for Andre Miller.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
more from hollinger:
do you think portland should give more playing time to bayless? he seems to be a lot better this year in limited minutes.
John Hollinger
(4:06 PM)
I like Bayless, but he’s a 20-25 minute third guard type off the bench. I do think streamlining the guard rotation (i.e by trading either Miller or Blake) would help him immensely, and the Blazers may very well do that in the coming weeks. Right now it’s tough to play all three of those guys, and the one they’re playing the most (Blake) is performing the worst of the three.

It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.
It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.
If you want me to love you, maybe I will.
Believe me woman, it ain’t no big deal.
You need love now, just as bad as I do.
Make’s me no difference now, who you give your thing to.
It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.
It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.
[Instrumental]
It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.
It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.
I’m not trying to run your life,I know you wanna do what’s right.
Give your love now, to whoever you choose.
How can you love, with the stuff you use now.
It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.
It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.
It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.
It’s your thing, do what you wanna do.
I can’t tell you, who to sock it to.

Here is some advice:
If at some point you decide that your child would really enjoy a letter from Santa Claus and you go to the trouble of getting the North Pole postmark to really make it look offical, don’t use a meter to pay for the postage. Use a stamp instead.
It shows the date and the ZIP code in which the meter was applied
Thus it allows your deception to be easily discovered.
How old are your kids?
If they’re old enough to catch that, they might be old enough to know Santa ain’t mailing them nothing.
I HOPE I DIDN’T RUIN ANYTHING FOR DOUGALL. DOUGALL DON’T READ THIS.
#52
It isn't like the ZIP and date info are really hard to find on a meter
they are practically staring at you

I was a smart kid
But when I was at the Santa-believing age, I would have never looked at that. That’s all official gobbledygook, lemme read the letter from Santa!!!
#52
And
Santa is magic, he had the letter sent to the zip code to be mailed.
If the kid notices.
I am impressed if the kid notices, that’d be funny… but there’s always an excuse to cover it up.
#52
If Santa is magic why does he need to use the US Postal Service to deliver the mail?
Where does he get the money for the postage?
You need to tell your kids to shut the hell up!
Or Christmas will be canceled!!!
THAT’s how you deal with it. Or, tell them this.
Santa is magic, but he knows it is fun for kids to get mail. And he knows it is important to support the men and women who work for the USPS.
Santa’s operations are largely subsidized by our tax dollars, which includes all of his postage and delivery expenditures.
#52
You had me right until you mentioned tax dollars
So when Santa delivers X-Boxes to England that is my tax dollars at work? Lame.
Also the Postal Service hasn’t recived any money from taxes since the early 1980s
And I said Santa gets tax money
NOT the USPS… so it won’t contradict anything you’ve told your children about how the USPS receives it’s funding already.
#52
You are depriving your children of Christmas magic by telling them that the letter from Santa isn't real because it was postmarked locally!!!!!
#52
Then why do you hate me with your arguments :-(
And now you’re making 92 feel bad about his inadequate parenting and too-gullible kids!
#52
I am Morti-fied, in fact

by 92wastheyear on Dec 17, 2009 5:57 PM PST up reply actions
But does it have a North Pole postmark?
Man, if she thinks that a letter from the desk of Santa would be postmarked in Portland, she must really think that Santa is magic.
What really happens is that letters to Santa are held out at various points across the country and then given to different charities to respond to and then place back into the mail for delivery. There was a big change in how the mail is presented to the charities this year, that adds a lot of extra work on the Postal side of things and has caused some districts to reevaluate their participation in the endevour.
in the school district i work for
they sometimes have the elementary school kids write letters to Santa that a high school english class responds too. which could turn out really bad actually.
by DrivetheLane on Dec 17, 2009 6:07 PM PST up reply actions
We wrote and mailed letters to Santa when I was a kid
And we never got anything back. KIDS TODAY ARE LUCKY.
When I was dumb/naive enough to believe in Santa, I wouldn’t have questioned the whole letter-responding operations, that’s fo’ sho’.
#52

There was an issue with that last year in Maryland where one of the volunteers that was responding to the letters was a registered sex offender
once that was discovered it caused a change in the policy on how letters to Santa are to be handled. Districts were able to decide if they wanted to continue to respond to Santa letters under the new policy, which includes the redaction of personal information, and many districts decided that they didn’t have the people to deal with it.

i liked baseball before i knew what ESPN was. watching Cubs, Braves, and Mariners with my grandparent’s taught me to love baseball. ESPN has only diminished that love, to be honest.
and i never claimed baseball players were all “athletes”. but that’s beside the point. baseball is a mental game. so it makes sense the likes of you and Roybot don’t like it.
by DrivetheLane on Dec 17, 2009 5:34 PM PST up reply actions
LOL baseball is a mental game?
How about golf? That is much more mental than baseball and I love golf.
No words.
#52
baseball is a total mental game.
the crux of baseball lies in the duel between the pitcher and the hitter. what pitch do you throw, where do you throw it, how do you set up the hitter for the 4th pitch of this at bat, how does the hitter set up the pitcher for his 3rd at bat, which will probably be more important, when does a pitcher introduce another one of his pitches, this can go on and on. Beyond that, how does the defense line up. When there is a baserunner, do we hold him? should the runner steal? what about a hit and run?
golf is a mental game too, but there’s not as much to think about. Baseball is exciting when you really get in to the thought process behind the decisions that are made. It’s about making the most of a single opportunity.
the reason people don’t like baseball as much as they used to, in my opinion, is because this society has had a collective drain in their attention spans as the world speeds up around them. taking some time to relax and enjoy a pastoral game just isn’t as appealing any more. i get that. but it doesn’t mean the game is boring.
by DrivetheLane on Dec 17, 2009 5:57 PM PST up reply actions
if you knew baseball, you'd realize why this comment doesn't make sense the way you intend it.
This is actually a great example of why baseball is a mental game. Manny Ramirez is one of the best hitters of all time precisely because he knows how to think through an at-bat. He might seem like a space case a lot of the other times, but he’s a very cerebral hitter. he knows how to think through the game. he just gets bored on defense :)
by DrivetheLane on Dec 17, 2009 10:44 PM PST up reply actions
the problem with your argument is that the intricacies that you love about baseball happen at the top level of most team sports. substitutions for offense and defense; play calling; maximizing and exploiting individual match-ups. this happens in basketball, soccer, hockey, etc… The problem with baseball is that it’s boring to watch, even for people playing in the game on defense apparently… I get it, I even watch it from time to time during the summer when I need a sports fix… but baseballs level of greatness is directly proportionate to the number of other sporting options available…
.
.
if you want to talk subtle and often overlooked intricacies, I suggest you look at sumo

Twitter went out over so much Bayless love
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
I think at this point
when Rudy comes back he and Blake battle for minutes. Bayless has earned his, Blake hasn’t and Rudy needs to show he’s back at 100% before you lock him into 28 minutes.
You won.
by Roybot on Nov 11, 2009 1:41 AM PST
luckily we got some time before Rudy comes back.
i think Bayless will have to have a few more solid games before he’s sure to keep minutes when Rudy gets back. Which is bogus, but still, I don’t see them switching Blake and Bayless’ roles when Rudy gets back.
by DrivetheLane on Dec 17, 2009 10:39 PM PST up reply actions
I see a Miller or Blake trade for some front line support
Free up some time for the young guys, hold on the one vet at PG, and get a backup C because this team is a wreck when Joel sits (thankfully, Phoenix isn’t really built to attack that way)

One of the cool things tonight was the encouragement
Everyone went out of their way to hug Bayless or give him a pat at some point, as if they were saying “we knew you could do it, good job soph.”

I don't want to
It’s fun to hate on Bayless because everything he does is stuff Blazers fans would complain about if it was a guy on another team doing it against the Blazers.
Guys, I'm kinda worried
This seems like Rocky’s greatest challenge to date. Does he still have the drive and desire to avenge Apollo’s death?
Only God knows…
#52
Oh man, I'm not there yet
But I imagine they’ll be totally brutal toward him. Extremely hostile.
So not only will be be trying to win the boxing match, but also winning over the crowd.
#52
I've never thought about it, and I doubt it was intentional
But there seem to be many Cold War themed undertones to this movie. Hmm.
#52

I don't want to get ahead of myself
But I’ve seen this man pull off the impossible before. The amount of damage he is able to absorb, the intangibles he brings to the ring… he isn’t the quickest, nor the most powerful, but somehow, it all comes together for him. It works.
I just am not ready to count him out. Not yet.
Ivan Drago is truly a monstrous creation of the advanced Russian trainers… we’ll never catch up to them!
#52
I'm wondering about his training
how is he going to fight the Russian boxer who has a huge advantage in technology? All Rocky gets is a small cabin in the snow and has to make do with what he has, but the other boxer gets a fancy gym to work out in. It’s going to take some real American ingenuity in order for him to get in a good enough shape to take down the Russian.

#52
They say it's a "technology advantage"
But I think he’s secretly juicing.
No way Rocky overcomes that.
We gotta be realistic here
Rocky has received his pay days, there is no way he is as hungry as he was as a young fighter. He owns a robot, for KP’ sake.
We just witnessed— with our own eyes— Ivan Drago outright MURDER the former heavyweight champion of the world, Apollo Creed. It wasn’t even close… Timmay, he was TOYING with him. The former champ!
This match, for whatever reason (it’s like Rocky is out to prove something), is based in Russia. Ivan’s homeland!
The deck is stacked against Rocky. I hope he just throws in the towel before he joins his friend 6 feet under…
#52
I can barely watch
Rocky is getting demolished!
Thank God, the bell rang…
Wait a minute… somehow, Rocky is regaining strength. Oh my goodness! He landed a punch! Drago is bleeding! Drago is bleeding! For the first time in his career!
Buckle up boys, this is going to be an interesting ride… perhaps… Drago is not a machine, but… a man?
#52
The only way tonight could be better
Is if it was a Friday or Saturday, and I was staying home watching Rocky 4. Not as cool on a Thursday.
#52
I've lost track of how many rounds they've fought
Guys, this is incredible… the previously hostile crowd has somehow, someway, been won over by Rocky’s sheer determination and American moxie.
They are chanting Rocky’s name! The entirely Russian crowd! I have never heard such a sight.
WWHHHHHHHHHOA, Drago just attacked his manager! This is the moment to strike, Rocky… their corner is in entire disarray.
I don’t know how Rocky does it, but somehow he seems like he has even more energy than when the fight started. Drago is clearly hurt by his countrymen turning on him.
#52
If I had to write a Senior Thesis
I’d go back and trace the Cold War and explain how Rocky is basically the Cold War in an hour and a half set against the backdrop of a boxing match

So let's back up here for a second
Rocky, tired of all the fighting he has done in “wars” in years past, only comes back into the ring because his friend is killed by a Russian.
He agrees to fight in front of a hostile crowd in Russia, where they will be totally brutal to him no matter what he does. His job will not only to beat the Russian, but also win the crowd.
He gets put into a small cabin during a blizzard, and is forced to rely upon his American ingenuity to train; while the Russian has a huge advantage in technology, getting to train in a state-of-the-art facility (also possibly drug technology).
Yeah, I don’t see any Cold War parallels at all.

If anyone has it on DVR, he left the court once Nash missed the three while the rest of the team was celebrating an emotional win…
Either his eyes were hurting or he’s acting a like a jackass or just sick of N8 treating him like a jackass on national tv nonetheless.

Miller got popped in the head pretty hard
We were wondering in the game thread if he got his bell rung.
Still there is no denying he is not happy with the way Nate uses him
There is no way “improve our second unit, maybe start sometime before Christmas and play < 25 minutes” is what Nate and KP promised him.

by Cablinasian on Dec 18, 2009 12:30 AM PST up reply actions
but Blake played well in what I saw of the game… Miller has been given the starting role he asked for, if he wants to finish games he needs to play better. Blake has earned the right to be on the floor at the end of the last two games by hitting his shots and not doing anything too stupid when he’s in the game… where as every 5th or 6th possession Andre seems to go “I’m going to get mine” and takes a bad shot
by The Arkitect on Dec 18, 2009 12:39 AM PST up reply actions
Tonight Blake hit his shots so he fulfilled his role
But near 40 minutes has been a nightly occurrence, not just when he’s hitting shots.
Dre’s poor play has certainly complicated matters and makes it not so cut and dry that he should get all the PG minutes.
#52
when Blake was playing poorly, 40 was too many… cause Andre was outplaying him, so Andre should have gotten more minutes, but now Blake is outplaying Andre the last two games, so in those games I’m fine with Blake getting more minutes… Once Rudy and Batum are back though I expect Blakes minutes to decrease unless he’s playing better than them as well
by The Arkitect on Dec 18, 2009 12:46 AM PST up reply actions
Those came immediately after he got hit in the head
Still nasty
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
yeah, I’m talking game by game… I though Blake out played Miller in the Sac game too… IMO Nates new substitution pattern for the 4th better correlate to how they played the first 3 quarters
by The Arkitect on Dec 18, 2009 12:44 AM PST up reply actions
Ideally you want some consistency with the lineup around Roy and LMA though.
I know we want flexibility, but I think knowing who you’re gonna go with is better overall… over trying to figure out who the hot hand is that night in crunch time.
#52
the options are limited as to who it will be
we have 9 10 players… I can safely rule out Juwan, Dante, and Tolliver as crunch time possibilities… so there are 7 players left… assuming Roy and LMA are in that leaves 5 players for 3 spots on the floor (if no one fouls out) I’m comfortable with Nate playing the 3 having better games out of the 5 possibilities

So is the mood now again playoffs playoffs playoffs instead of "um, now who do we take in the lottery"?
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
I’m wondering how Bayless stacks up to the other young guards.
At this point, he’s a better offensive player than Westbrook.
hire tim grover
#52
I always claimed he is Westbrook minus a bit defense and rebounding
Though even that is coming along. He’s also on a level with a Rose who isn’t playing up to his abilities, though I think Rose has the higher ceiling. But I never bought that the key thing in our PG is shooting 3s, at least not better than Bayless is able to do. I linked his HS mix above. That was always the player he can be.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
part of his success is playing with Brandon, I think… but no one can laugh at his 60% TS.
Bayless has been better than both Rose and Westbrook, offensively. Not that we can expect it to continue, it’s just nice to see.
hire tim grover
#52
Monta Ellis clone is also not out of the question
Or Tony Parker for the more point guard oriented version, though there are some differences. Bayless can shoot better but isn’t yet on the same planet of distributing it.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
Brandon is definitely working to set Bayless up in good position
Always nice to have a star who can do so many things.
I think he is actually relieved to have Bayless. It’s a lot harder to double team Brandon when someone else hurtles himself down the lane.
hire tim grover
#52
Brandon seemed more happy about Bayless' success than anyone else
Though they were all thrilled for him. Martell was in the midst of a post-game interview, and stopped to congratulate Bayless. It was nice to see.
Probably a bit early to make any calls still.
There’s a crazy road trip and a big game on Christmas night coming up.
Personally, I’m just happy they got some confidence back, and now know they can beat a quality team.
I am where I was before
Just hoping we play hard, the playoffs will be a bonus and I won’t be surprised if we miss it, and in the meantime I hope Roy is somewhat closer to what he was last year and we somehow develop Bayless.
#52
You are slow to the party
He has cracked the top 5 in TS% and PER among PGs. Fun with small sample sizes.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
Everyone's complaining about Brandon recently.
Quick, guess Brandon’s PPG, RPG and APG for the last 5 games. I’ll post it in a few minutes.
I'll say 23 5 and 5
Its his shooting percentages that are concerning. And his struggles finishing at the rim. And his defense.
#52
25.4, 6.2 and 6.2
As you said, it’s not an efficient 25.4, but I’m not sure anyone would be more efficient in his place right now either.
As he rounds into form, I’m hopeful his defense will improve with his quickness.
Not sure he rounds into form. He still seems to will a lot of shots into the basket. The Natural is not how I would describe his game at the moment.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
It's still pretty early in the season to write him off.
But I do agree he’s not himself (or the previous-season version of himself) out there.
On the other hand, while everyone was distracted by Bayless’ 4th quarter performance, Brandon was quietly dominating at the same time. He’s been breaking down the defense then setting up Bayless regularly.
Sure, his all-star bid is in serious jeopardy, but he’s showing signs that he’ll get his game back this year.
I would like to remark again that Blake has never scored more than 25 points in an NBA game
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
I liked what I saw from Martell tonight

who says we aren't already? :)
this is like when two single gay men/women are introduced by straight friends and everyone expects them to hook up (change gay with spanish)
Of course!
Since you two are both spanish, it stands to reason that: a) you are dating or b) you are related. I’m sure you are neighbors as well, since Spain is about as big as Southeast Portland.

Way to keep it in the Spanish family!

I knew it all along
That’s why I want Mortimer and Jake to hook up. They are both in California.

Great point!
I wonder how long it will be before something goes down between Claire, NBF, and/or G-Love. How can they resist when they are all in New York?

D'Antoni can't coach anymore, Robinson is pissed, and the Knicks are jacking up 3s. Lebron, run. Don't walk, run!
The Knicks’ 47 treys fell two short of the NBA record, set in 1996 by Dallas. New York chukkers did set the NBA record for most 3-pointers in a first half with 29. At one point, they missed 15 straight 3-pointers.
“Some were good, some were just jacked up,” D’Antoni said. “They went in early for us and that’s how we got into taking them.”
Robinson sat at his locker and stared for several minutes at the sickly boxscore sheet that had the Knicks shooting 36 percent and taking more 3-pointers than 2-pointers (47-39) — the first time that’s happened in an NBA game in three years. Worse for Robinson, the stat sheet showed D’Antoni basically used a six-man rotation, using Toney Douglas for just 4:15 as the lone guard off the bench.
Asked if this was worse than the other benching, because Hughes was out and the team struggled, Robinson said, “It’s all the same.”
Robinson’s representatives have become furious with D’Antoni’s treatment of their client and likely will take action today. Agent Aaron Goodwin declined comment.

funny way of "proving" he has nothing against Robinson
They think it is always personal,’ D’Antoni said before Thursday night’s game against the Bulls. ‘The only thing personal is that I don’t know a coach yet that says, ‘You know what? I don’t like him so I’d rather lose.’ I’d play Satan himself if I could win. I don’t care. I have no morals, or scruples. I don’t think a coach does because we’re only judged if we win or lose. You win enough, you stay. You lose enough, you’re gone. You can’t debate whether a coach wants to win or lose. That’s the only thing we have.’"
Which NBA star really wants to take over that mess? Is the media kidding themselves? Maybe Amare, but he has signaled that he is increasingly happy again with Gentry’s style in Phoenix. Bosh doesn’t seem like the guy for that. And LeBron would have less support to win a title than he now has in Cleveland. That franchise is a mess, and as a first-rate player I would keep it that way and let them rebuild via the draft. But some guy probably will jump at all the money.

And unless it is Lebron or Wade who jumps at the money
They will likely wilt under the pressure as the savior and not be worth the money. They’ll be back to where they were before.
