repost from first half thread-- typical Blazer '09-'10 half
- LMA and Roy with horrendous defense
- Roy underwhelming on offense
- LMA afraid of contact
- Blake leads the PGs in minutes for no apparent reason
- A center with 2 fouls plays limited minutes for no apparent reason

Joe Prunty's an ex-sideline reporter?
Is that part of why our coaching staff is so WEAK?
The Wolves employ a former Oregonian writer as their GM. Anything is possible.
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
Yeah there's only so many coaching jobs
If you have a decent look, can communicate well, and know basketball, there are lots of sideline reporter jobs (Pro and college)
I bet they name their baby boy "Steve"
Congratulations to Joe Prunty
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?

"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
Rondo was obviously a much better bargain than LMA, but we already knew that.
The way I see it, LMA was overpaid by 5-10 mil or so and Rondo was a steal for the Celtics.

ODEN
ODEN IS LOW POST SCORER.
ODEN.
Problem solved in the future PHEW.
This season though… glurp!
#52
I wonder if "Channing shoots 3s now" was on our scouting report.
Our bigs did not seem to know about that.
#52
You'd think it'd be worth it to let Steve just take it to the hole 1 on 1
instead of leaving Channing time after time
Maybe they think back to practice "nah, he won't shoot from there"
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?
bayless needs to play the whole second half

Yeah, he and Bayless should attack the rim

To be fair
We’re not asking him to make plays, make shots, create offense for himself or others, push the tempo, move the ball, or play good defense.
#52
But we asking him to play the third most minutes on the team
Third best player. Case rested.

I couldn't believe it when Webster got pulled with 8:30 left in the first quarter

I agree
I have a lot less against Blake than the entire remainder of this forum, but I don’t think you can let Grant Hill run wild like that – Webster is the best guy left on the roster who can at least try to stay with him. – Elgin
Travis Outlaw, the Funnel Cake of the Blazers
Difference in this game: OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS... Phoenix = 8, Portland = 1

Miller has sucked this year. Not as bad as Blake, but he's been bad. Its not ALL Nate's fault.
just partly.
#52
He certainly hasn't played up to his ability
Which makes the whole Dre/Blake thing harder to figure out the best solution. Neither player has made it easy.
Leaves an opening for Bayless to show if he can do it, though…
#52
the best solution is to trade whichever one has more trade value for frontcourt depth and have the other one+Bayless man the PG spot

As long as it's someone who can help us next year too

perhaps you're familiar with Adrian Beltre?
its very similar
its possible. Beltre's was a mid-career fluke year, whereas Roy's came early in his career, making it possible he'll get back to that point.
We’ll have a much better idea within a year whether this is a down year or if last year was a fluke.

Blazers look worse than they were 2 years ago. Well they were on that 13 game winning streak.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
We honestly are watching the 07-08 Blazers
No Oden, Batum, or Rudy; Roy and Aldridge both seem to have regressed; we have Martell. It is the 07 08 Blazers plus Miller and Bayless, who kind of fill in Jack’s spot.
Roy has lost his toughness
He has become a wuss! Brandon ‘the girly’ Roy is our All-Star. Yeah!(sarcasm)

With three seconds left, I'd like to see a play drawn up to at least reach the three point line
Not 5 or 10 feet behind it. I’m not a big fan of the Blazer end-of-quarter plays.
Any palyer that come to the Blazers suck cuz coach only has his offense around Roy and LMA.
Any player that leaves the Blazers play great cuz the other coach plays the player to his strength. So trading for a player wont solve much of Blazers problems.

first you have to make the playoffs. Suns dont have as much talent as the Blazers, but they use players strenghts and share the ball.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
Suns use screens well, and can run the pick and roll, and pass the ball to the paint on the pick and rolls.
Blazers cant use some of the simples pick and rolls. Iso wont get blazers far.

Play Bayless, Cunningham, Webster
Let them at least try to get something going. Get rid of Miller or Blake and let Bayless play, for crying out loud. Let’s seee what we have rather than running Blake out there all the time. And when Roy is listless and doesn’t give a crap, let him sit. – Elgin

It's hard to fix the problem
When so much of it is Roy not playing as well as he should.
Especially when we’re so depleted, losing the Good Roy makes us not good.
#52
there is also not a lot of trust that our guys have in this depleted team
they don’t trust themselves and so they hesitate, and second guess themselves. This doesn’t allow them to take advantage of any mismatches, and playing late in the clock against a fast team, has allowed the Suns to get set on almost every one of our possessions.

nate's reached his ceiling
its GO time, as in leave
That isn't the biggest problem
The biggest problem is we have no direction. No identity. That equals to us being a bad offensive team and crappy defensive team. Zero ability by the coaching staff to develop players as well. That’s on Nate.
I understand the anger about this season
But almost all of our players have developed very nicely over the years.
If you’re referencing Sergio and Frye… Sergio has been OK, and Frye is situational.
#52
that's something I've said a lot, but losing guys that our guys are used to playing with, has not helped to develop that identity at all.

things we need in order to contend
- Roy ‘08-’09
- LMA ‘08-’09
- A healthy Oden playing like he did this year, but for 35 mpg
- a new coach
- healthy role players better than Blake and Webster (ie an improved Rudy and Batum)
#52
And I say
We need at least the player-related ones to happen, to know if it is the coach or not. Such an odd year, and Nate got a lot out of the players and team in the past.
#52
How many years do we wait until we make the call on the coach?
Since there will always be some player setbacks and it’ll probably never be perfectly clear.
If he got a "wait this season and see" pass based on his past work
This season doesn’t really count as that season, ya know?
#52
So much has gone wrong
Not just the God-awful injuries, but Roy playing crappy (for Roy). That was totally unexpected and cannot be planned for.
There is literally nothing Nate can do to overcome Roy not being good. No one can.
I do not know if Nate is the right coach, but to judge it from this season…
#52
I need more time with Nate
Before I turn on him. I think if Oden and Batum were healthy, we look good defensively.
I just don’t like making any rash decisions from THIS season. I think Nate is more capable of change, albiet slow, than most do though. He’s young.
#52
Personally I'm not judging Nate on this season much.
This season seems like a pretty normal coaching job from him.
You've been very consistent on that, as well!
Woooooooooo Bayless jumper.
At least we BOTH called the possible comeback this quarter!
#52
We have seen more than enough to know that Nate is not a championship coach.
Way more than enough. I am surprised you don’t see that, Mortimer. He’s never coached a good D and he’s shown a total lack of ability to adjust the O to new personnel.
#52
I liked him before this season.
This season is not a failure because of him, I say, and nothing that has truly gone wrong is things Nate is responsible for.
#52
Big time injuries
Roy not playing good. LMA too.
You liked Nate before this season too and wanted to give him a shot as well, ya know. This season isn’t that shot.
AS ALWAYS, depends on who else we could get. If it is Doug Collins or a noobie, count me out. Every coach has annoying tendencies.
#52
its this sentence that kills me
“nothing that has truly gone wrong is things Nate is responsible for.”
Wow.
#52
What else has gone wrong that Nate is responsible for?
The Dre/Blake thing?
It is mostly Nate’s fault from my POV, but goodness… if Oden and Friend are healthy and (most of all) if Roy is good, it doesn’t matter so much.
With so much having gone wrong, the ‘littler’ stuff becomes major.
#52
I think the rotation problems
That are mostly Nate, are pretty much caused by the real problems.
It’s an impossible situation when Roy plays bad and our team gets gutted.
#52
the handling of the PG situation has been pathetic.
A championship coach would have started Andre from day 1 in training camp. A good coach wouldn’t have needed 25 games to figure out that Blake wasn’t deserving of a starting spot.
A championship coach wouldn’t be changing the rotations every game, and not even based on who’s playing well.
A championship coach would have handled Oden’s minutes better.
Fairness dictates Nate should get another year. This isn’t about fairness. Its about figuring out that Nate’s career history— his teams don’t defend well, never run, he doesn’t adjust well to new personnel, etc— dictate that he’s not the guy to take us all the way. To me, its incredibly clear.
#52
This is the Roy I've come to expect this season
Every drive, he’s going for the whistle, not the basket. Its really showing now. Down by 11 against the Suns in the fourth? Its not looking good.

What's great about the Suns offense is that they rely on execution rather than individual isolations.
Those V-cuts by Nash creates opportunity. They run out to seek mismatches then exploit them. Screeners are cutting fast to the hoop or to the 3-point line The Blazers are the plodding bunch that rely on superior individual talent to win games.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
Thats why they did not make out of the first round cuz Roy just did his Iso, and the team just watched him.
I dont call that meshing well.

coach could not do anything cuz all the other Blazers looked like deer in the head lights.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
You think Roy embraced Miller? Roy is still not that experienced to know how to use a monster like Oden. But first Oden should be on the floor.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
They might be overblown but if I were Roy I would come out and say, that Miller is a veteran and we will learn how to play together.
But Roy was saying something like, oh I dont know how to play with Miller I love Blake.

He has to do this for the season with solid minutes before we’ll know anything. But he does look promising.
LMA still has the talent to be the top power forward in the league.
Not sure if he’ll ever decide to reach that potential though.
He is more likely to be a good not great player.
He can improve and be better, but I think it is more likely he is what he is.

It's too bad
Because not too many players with that size can move like him with that range. He just needs to use all that more than he does.
Martell didn't foul Nash on that layup. Phew.
This was a problem last year too. Portland gives up layups very quickly when they need to run the clock down.
Game isn't over yet, sadly.

Blazers always suck inbounding
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
when we win can we have a small parade?

Now Rex has to do it again.

Ha ha, Bayless is the go-to foul shooter already
Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?

To be fair,
I think TNT won this game for us….
Good job by Portland clogging the 3 point circle.

That's actually not far off... Their super skill is getting to the rack.

I hope i run into Bayless at Washignton Square again this holiday season
I’m buying him something nice if I do.
I love Roy and Bayless were interviewed together
I can’t remember two players being interviewed in the post game before. Funny and cute.

I preferred the Bayless grin, which made me laugh
He seemed thrilled to get the interview with Brandon.
National TNT game, prime time baby
He has likely ran this situation in his head a billion times.
