Jerryd Bayless blogs...
------------------
In the beginning of the first quarter of our game, one my teammates/ best friends hurt his knee. Now, obviously sports injuries are bound to happen. There's truthfully no avoiding them and every team will have some every year. This one, though, just wasn't right and had me asking myself "why". By now you guys all probably realize I'm talking about Greg. From day one since I’ve been in Portland, Greg and I have became good friends. I have seen him in his ups and downs and have been with him through a lot. A worse thing couldn’t have happened to a better guy.

I just do not get the haters!

Basketball is just one aspect of JB’s life and it is just great to see.

They've seemed to become pretty close friends.

They make a funny pair, but I like it. J Bay feels just like all the Blazer fans when it comes to Oden. Greg’s a great guy that deserves to prove everyone one wrong for all the undue hate he’s gotten outside of Portland and in the media.

FREE BAYLESS

And it’s great to hear he’s got Oden’s back.

In the last few weeks

My opinion of Bayless has skyrocketed. hes quickly becoming my fav. player

Wouldn't mind if Bayless was starting. Or at least playing.

Good friendship is priceless - wonderful to see

I am so glad this came to my attention – helps lift my spirits about the Blazers – I was so glad for JBay having the great game he did last night – Oden, Bayless, and Rudy all add something special to our team. GO BLAZERS.

Jerryd seems like a good, smart kid

I am glad he and Oden appear to have become good friends.

Jerryd does a good job with these blogposts. He’s a thoughtful young dude.

Brandon has LMA

Greg has Rex

hopefully these two pairs will be “four of a kind” for years to come

future 3-guard rotation

I speculated on this yesterday. It could be possible to rotate Rudy in there with Roy and Jerryd, in coming years. Perimeter defense would be a concern, whenever Brandon and Rudy are on the court together, but Nic can help guard the quick penetrators, while he’s still young and spry. Ideally, the “4th” guard would be a superior defender who could knock down open jumpers, like a younger version of Hinrich.

We’ll see how it all plays out, but Bayless is finally getting the opportunity to show his stuff, and that’s good to see. I think the whole team is heading into tough times for the next few weeks, and it will be interesting to see how they handle the adversity

Bayless is a dominant personality

The sooner he is playing 36 minutes a game, the better. I don’t care if he averages 2 assists and 8 turnovers running the point full time over the rest of the season. He won’t – he looked great running the point about half the fourth quarter against Sac-town. But either way, this kid is exactly what the Blazers need (both in terms of his attitude and his game) to become championship contenders in the next couple years.

Anybody really think this team is challenging the Lakers next year if Andre Miller is the starting point guard? It’s possible, don’t get me wrong, if Brandon plays like he did last year, Greg plays like he did this year, LMA and Nic take a step forward, and the pieces fit. But there’s an easier way…

START JERRYD BAYLESS. That is all.

Q: Is Greg favoring his knee?
Frye: He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors.

I think a lot of fans bought into a caricature of Bayless

His basketball intensity led people to assume that he was selfish and self-centered. I don’t think that was ever an accurate picture of this young man. He burns to succeed and he is aggressive, but that doesn’t make him selfish.

I have heard a hundred comments from coaches and teammates that make me think he is a good guy. He seems to be a good teammate and very coachable. His blog even shows a bit of talent for self-reflection, an ability that not all 21 year olds possess.

I’m glad he and Greg have become friends. Both lived in the bubble created by a lot of early success and both have faced some adversity in their transition to the NBA. I hope both will be in the starting line-up when we find playoff success.

My first impression of Rex was summer league 2008

I compared him to a young Terry Porter, back then. Raw , but hard-working and determined. No, the two players’ skillset will not overlap perfectly, but (more importantly) they both have the same desire and leadership qualities. Cool cats like Drexler/Roy need some “fire” alongside them in the backcourt, TP did and JB can provide this

He comes from a very similar background as BRoy and Channing Frye:

Solidly middle class, both parents are professionals, raised well.

Hit it. Yes he did. Ohhhh yeah.

These blog posts are so difficult to read

but besides that , he’s using this as an outlet for his angst. Seems like it has been bothering him and its a positive that he can channel that through a blog.

And it's unfiltered

Maybe he lets someone read it before posting it (agent, parents, girlfriend, teammate or team employee he trusts). Maybe not. At least it’s not the usual PR speak 101.

Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?

by Norsktroll on Dec 17, 2009 10:49 AM PST up reply actions

It comes across authentic

More than enough personality not to be a vague PR-driven piece, but not so perfectly written to be heavily gussied up by reps either.

I like it, I think it reads well, especially in the “athlete blog genre”.

I like this Bayless kid before, and his blog posts just make me more confident he’ll be a very nice player and teammate.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
