Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

From Smith's article on Columbian:

"But even with his son by his side, Miller was still guarded.

Following a post-practice session in which Miller led Duane through a series of shooting drills, the Blazers guard backed up against a wall for a media interview. The first question asked drew a quick, strong response from Miller.

"This is the guy that's been writing bad stuff about me," said Miller, referring to a reporter.

Duane looked up, studied the situation and turned away. Meanwhile, Miller began answering questions. "

It's not hard to guess the reporter Miller referred to is who else but Jason Quick.

Can someone give a rational explanation of why blake plays 36 minutes a game?

by thomasikehara on Dec 13, 2009 6:46 PM PST reply actions

Miller hasn't been performing

But, I think he has a coach who doesnt get it and he came in out of shape.

He was not prepared for the immediate microscope/scrutiny that is Rip City.

Be easy on him, he’s a good guy and in the right situation we’d love his play when he is fully in shape and in his groove.

Land Rondo.

"He needs to realize that he can't stop every shot, especially from a smaller and offensively potent player. Get your hands up, make him shoot it over you, but let him shoot every once in a while. They score a little but you stay in the game a lot. And when you stay in the game...smashy smashy!" Dave on Greg Oden

I think he is fully in shape. The coaching staff needs to WAKE UP. PERIOD. If Miller were

coached by anyone COMPETENT, instead of someone who has control issues and the imagination of a piece of white bread, he would be allowed to play his game. He would run the floor, teach the rookies of the future. Make the stars SHINE.
Truly would love to see NM demoted to a 2nd team role and LIKE IT FOR THE GOOD OF THE TEAM. I’d also enjoy seeing him move to LA, coach the Lakers….

They'll never give Miller the reigns he needs

Those reigns are already designated.
15th comes this week and for his own benefit, I hope he can get on with the right team. After all the slant media’s tried to tilt on his PR as not a Portland guy, I’d love to embrace him if he could be happy here. Just not sure thats in the cards.
There does happen to be another guard who maybe we should try starting to see just how well he plays with the ball in #7s hands (where it likely should be, -52) all the time.

Miller is quiet with Nate, hmmm?

If I were Miller, Nate’s comments really would not have me talking to him much either.

Nice artilcle

Brian T obviously didn’t get the memo from Quickzano that the writer is supposed to be the focal point.

by southern oregon on Dec 13, 2009 8:06 PM PST reply actions

That article was better than anything Quick has written lately. Kudos to him, in spite of the one sentence paragraphs.

I wish Miller the best, on whatever team he is traded to. I really wish we had a coach who was comfortable with a PG like Miller, and would run some plays to accommodate a PG with the skills of Miller. Alas, we do not. We have Nate. Nate requires every player to adjust their skills and style to him, and Nate LOVES Steve Blake, and Blake is here to stay, like it or not.

The other thing about that article that really pisses me off. Once again, Nate throws Andre under the bus. He puts the problem on him, saying it’s his fault for being a quiet person as to why he hasn’t figured out Andre yet. Also, he says he has tried to put Andre in situations to succeed. Yet he hasn’t tried just playing him with a regular line-up!!!! Play Andre with Brandon and a normal small forward Nate! You haven’t even tried it.

I am firmly in the fire Nate camp. It is time.

I was more focused on Miller's impact on Oden so I'm glad to read this... and I remember LMA slipping a screen recently.

“Meanwhile, forward LaMarcus Aldridge distinctly recalled a recent game in which Miller helped him exploit a pick-and-roll situation that Aldridge was initially reluctant to take advantage of.

“He sees it. I think he’s big. He’s so mature and he knows the game,” Aldridge said. “So whatever he can see and help you do, I think that’s one of the examples of the way that he helps me out on the court.”

He added: "I slipped the screen and had a layup. And I was just like, ’That’s crazy.’ "

biggest indictment of

the coaching right there.

lol @ a seasoned player amazed that a screen and roll could result in a layup.

Nate's comments on Miller are idotic.

Nate’s lucky his players don’t disect and criticize his personality.

by Coastie07 on Dec 14, 2009 8:23 AM PST reply actions

Me spelling idiotic incorrectly isn't kind of ironic.

But seriously, why would Nate feel the need to say those things to the media about one of his players. Nate barely knows Andre and he already thinks it’s ok to talk down about how quiet Andre is and make negative conclusions about his personality. Yeah Andre is quiet, but outside of Nate, I’ve only heard good things said by his teammates about him. They seem to really respect him, unlike Nate, and like to point out all the things they like about him. Nate’s trying to blame Andre’s quiet personality on the poor integration, when Nate is obviously the biggest cause. Hey Nate, if you really want to successfully integrate Andre into the line-up, then do it like every other coach has, by starting him.

Let me clarify...

Best recent article on ‘Dre. I read timbo’s article last summer. It was good but this gives a better feel for him, right now.

Nate's a Joke

I’m glad that the public is starting to see how inefficient NM is. A good coach can come up with game-plans to best utilize his athletes talents as well as make changes to their plan when another good coach challenges them. NM has his strict slow offense which works at times but it seems that players conform to his plan regardless and he’s too prideful and stubborn to change (ie. when he’s getting out coached on most nights). I’m on board and have been for awhile in firing Nate. I’ve been a Blazer fan my whole life and know enough about bball to know bad coaching when I see it, regardless if he is the coach of my beloved Blazers.

I’ve been supportive up to this point, but when do you throw in the towel? A lot of people think he’s great because of the last few seasons improvement but I think we have KP to thank NOT NM. Please… you draft Roy, Aldridge, Batum, Rudy, Bayless and Oden on any team and you have a recipe for success regardless of who’s coaching. IMO, NM suffocates the improvement of this squad more than Oden getting more touches or who starts at PG. Players know this, Free-Agents know this and it won’t be long until KP comes to reality.

This equates to Nate not getting signed again this summer.

PS. Throwing your best PG under the bus in the media doesn’t help at all!

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
