He went to Jerryd

For weeks i 've been able to rip off that line from those lame jewelry commercials. whenever Nate(or asst coach) goes to jerryd, we do well.Like most everyone else on here, My friends and I are all wondering. When is Jerryd Going to get a chance? Before last nights game i thought that it must have been inexperience, or maybe something he wasnt doing right in practice that was keeping him out of the game, but now i completely believe it is just a stubborn coach who wont change his way.

Here s what i base my assumption off of. last night steve blake and andre miller were not playing well at all, and the coaches decided that even though they were coming off of a long road trip and their point guards were walking up the floor in double over time from being so tired, that they wouldn t make a substitution and go to the better playing, fresher jerryd bayless.

Thats just bad coaching period.

You have too much pride in your failing offensive scheme if you decide to leave in two players who are playing badly after playing 30+ minutes of more, over a more athletic and better scoring guard. Not to mention you decided to let Blake guard one of the hottest shooting players in the nba right now while the game is on the line. Andre and Blake were so slow footed on defense that all the Bucks had to do was drive and kick and they would get wide open shots uncontested.

What kind of message is that sending to bayless?

Hey kid i know you are working hard, playing well, and that those ahead of you on my depth chart havent played well, but i think its better for everyone if you sit on the bench and watch. That way you can watch the veterans show you how to do it the right way ( missing shots, bad defense, and turnovers) and maybe we ll give you a chance in your third of fourth year in the league, ya know if your still with us.

i would rather have had bayless in last night period. For offense AND defensive purposes. i know he gets a bad rap because he can get handsy, which he does sometimes and he is still learning what he can and cannot do. but the fact of the matter is he has the physical ability to stop other pg's penetration and ande and blake dont. Not to mention what he could have done for them driving to the hoop last night when they needed points.

To sum up he should be getting the minutes for these top 3 reasons

1. He can stop penetration, which leads to better team defense. and leaves pryz by the hoop so he can block shots and not give up easy buckets

2. He can finish at the rim. Andre is supposed to be good at drawing fouls near the hoop. He hasnt done that well, and when he has he normally cant finish. Bayless has much better body strength and lateral ability. He ll draw the foul and make the basket

3. He can push the ball. Miller had 3 turnovers last night in about 5 minutes trying to push the ball and trying to go behind his back. he doesnt have the speed and has an average dribbling ability. blake its just too inconsistant between good passes and sloppy turnovers.

Play the kid or for his sake trade him. He s too good a worker and player not to get a chance.

I agree

Much better than their other guards, if their gonna trade someone, trade the older less talented guys. they might be able to get a good role player

No good options on the poll

Jerryd should be coming off the bench and averaging around 22-25 minutes per game, at least. Steve Blake should be coming off the bench and averaging 10-15 minutes. 15-20 minutes is not enough for Jerryd considering the current state of the team.

Eventually I would like to see Jerryd starting, but that’s not going to happen right away. Dre starts, Bayless is the first guard off the bench, for now.

I think you guarantee him 15 minutes a game....

and dictate how many minutes he gets after that on mathups, how well he is playing, and how well the other pg’s are playing. Anything less than 15 mpg at this point is unjustifiable to me….

I don't think it was very likely for Dean to flip the script.

Benching or severely curtailing Steve’s minutes is probably a decision he wanted to leave up to Nate. If nothing happens in the next week or two then I’ll probably give up.

At this point, with our season effectively taken a turn for a construction site port-o-potty

There is no reason not to play Bayless, at least to see what we have.

Steve Blake played 35 minutes against the Cavs without scoring a single point and has played very poorly throughout this season. Andre Miller has been wildly inconsistent. With this scenario in place Jerryd Bayless must play. Seriously. What ’s the excuse?

IT IS COMPLETE

B.S. that Jerryd isn’t getting playing time. Blake continues to receive a pass from the coaching staff after he repeatedly plays horrible. He is getting more minutes than nearly everyone on the team save Roy. If the coaches would actually open their eyes, maybe we would not be playing so horrible. Blake runs a terrible STAGNANT offense, and the only thing he is good for is his 3 point shot. When he isn’t making his shot, he is worthless. We might as well play 4 v 5 because he defense is horrible also. He cannot fight through screens and consistently gives the opposing team mismatches.

For the love of God, please give Blake a smaller role. Having Bayless in the wings is just another reason.

It will be one of the biggest shames on Nate and Portland if Bayless walks away from this season/team unimproved...

We fans should really be after the coaching staff about this. Sure their job is to win games, but they’re only getting paid to entertain us. We like what we have seen in Bayless, and it seems pretty clear to me a lot of fans entertain notions about Bayless being on for at least a couple years. When Oden went down I lost all thoughts of the Playoffs. If we had had less injury’s the Playoffs would have been a great learning and growing experience for this team, but as it stands we have a lot of players that are not (who i think) our core players (should be) playing our starting positions. As such we should use this time to develop players we want to be part of our core.
That being said, I think Bayless should at least get the opportunity to try and be part of our core. This is a talented, athletic young man, with an incredible drive to impress and succeed. It is likely that Bayless with become an upper tier player (able to help a team to a ring) during his career, and we have his rough skills and ability’s as ours to develop. I know there are some who question his BBIQ, and if there is knowledge that the coaches have on him that I dont (the only one I can imagine is that he consistently gets tired/careless after playing 10+ min) but it is clear to most everyone something is wrong with how his minuets are distributed.

Bayless should be getting more minutes ...

And since Rudy’s out for a little bit I’m surprised that they are giving most of his minutes to Blake instead of Bayless. Maybe when Nate takes back over this week that will change, then again, maybe not. The only thing I don’t like about Bayless so much is he tends to get a bit out of control but without playing time that’s not gonna change. So, while Rudy’s out why not give him a chance and hopefully in a month Bayless can start taking some of Blake’s minutes and we can have a Rudy/Bayless backcourt … when they have been on the court together it’s actually seemed to go pretty well!

However, we’ll have to wait and see what happens now that the road trip is over and Nate’s going to be coaching again … Rudy was a late scratch from the Houston game and they’ve been on a road trip so there hasn’t been a lot of time to make adjustments. Although, making adjustments should really just be a matter of course at this point in the season … sigh!

Get Bayless plenty of minutes the rest of the year whether he struggles at times or not.

No more head games. Find out what we have. Let him learn who he is and what can be. At this point I am not sure the sample size is large enough for anyone to really know—although he has looked better this year.

Portland may never land another Free Agent...ever

other than Paul Allen overpaying, why would anyone want to come here?

Answer: They wouldn’t

Come on

By the time the Blazers have cap space again, anyone worth getting won’t remember what the Blazers did this past summer. And if they do remember it, who cares because they’ll be a scrub like Juwan Howard and they’ll go to whoever is willing to pay them.

Great title. I love Jerryd. Being an Arizona alum, it was a lot of fun watching him play at AZ and I wish him the best in Portland.
