Marcus Camby anyone?
Yesterday i wrote http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/12/12/1197520/we-have-got-to-make-a-move which got alot of peoples response. there were some good trade ideas, Bass, Wallace, G.S., etc. There were a fair amount of "stand patters." My thought was even echoed a bit later when hugetrailblazerfan wrote http://www.blazersedge.com/2009/12/12/1198282/this-road-trip-was-a-joke-kp-make and i think that it is becoming clear as glass.......we cant win as currently assembled. We have no help coming for atleast a month and a half and our PG play is the worst in the league. Oh! by the way our SF play has to be at the bottom of the league also.
We have but two choices......keep things as they are and watch a promising season go down in flames OR we make a brilliant move similar to Kwame for Gasol style. In my post as i thought about who would be available, able to play the 4 and 5, and have no problem with playing here only 1-2 years based on need, i drew a blank. Bass seemed the most logical option, Wallace was a dream scenario ("why yes we'll ake the #2 rebounder in the NBA currently")and G. S. has some appeal. (Turiaf, etc)
However i now have what is in my opinion the best option in mind, if the Clippers would actually be willing to deal him anyways. Marcus Camby. He replaces Oden near perfectly, some will argue offense, semantics. My dream scenario would be Blake and Miller (they both just suck right now) for Camby and name your PG it would be ironic if it were Telfair but i would not care if it were Steve Novak, ill take anyone over our two guys we currently have.
Clippers: They end up with a nice 4 guard rotation of B. Davis, E. Gordon, A Miller, S Blake.....Short guys i know but they have a few fillers Rasual Butler slides to the 2 sometimes for them. I have also heard talk that the Clips want to unload one of there centers to give De'Andre Jordan some run and this would help that. Shoot i would even gladly throw in a 1st rounder or two, but not this years we may be back in the lottery. (kidding about that last part)
Blazers: Well we get back alot of what we lost, Defense, shot blocking, rebounding, and a bit of offense. We also lose two guys who, lets face it, are killing us right now. You put any two guys who are playing well and we are not 14-11 with the bottom seemingly falling out. Lets not forget, we are about 1/4 the way into the year and we have about 1/2 the losses we had all last year. To add to this, lets say we got Telfair back in the deal...We then can start J.B. which gives us perimiter D, quickness, Roy can handle the ball and Bayless can play his SG style on offense but guard PGs on defense. Telfair has never been much of a PG but he is quick and can pass a bit but we only need a servicable back-up untill Rudy and Patty Mills get healthy.
Clipps get what they want (if what i have read is accurate anyways) we get to get back to relatively near where we were before G.O. went down. I think if i were the GM in Clipper land i would seriously consider Blake, Miller, 2011 protected 1st rounder and 2012 protected 1st rounder for Camby and PG at random. They lose a ton of salary over the next two years, pick up some picks for there future and if Baron Davis goes down again, Miller is a great fill in.
What do you guys think? Is this a good idea? Even possable? Or have you gone into shock for the year and are shaking in a corner somewhere unable to type? Heck ill include a poll i think.

What?
If Marcus Camby is dealt elsewhere by the Los Angeles Clippers, it’ll be to a team that could make an actual run in this season’s playoffs — which isn’t the Portland Trail Blazers — in return for fellow expiring contracts and maybe a low-cost future asset.
For example, Camby could go to a team like the Dallas Mavericks for Drew Gooden — whose contract is just partially guaranteed this season — as well as salary filler in Shawne Williams and James Singleton sometime on or after 12/15/2009. The draft rights of Nick Calathes could be included, too, as a sweetener.

The Clippers would have to release a couple of guys (e.g., Brian Skinner & Kareem Rush) to clear roster space for such a transaction, but those wouldn’t be difficult moves.
That way, Camby would play for a contender like the Mavericks and the miserly Donald Sterling would save a bit of money.
Anyhow, the Los Angeles Clippers have flat-out no need for Andre Miller — which is from an on-court, off-court, and financial perspective — plus, his tenure there earlier this decade was a disaster for all parties.
Dear Paul Allen:
Fire Kevin Pritchard & hire Dennis Lindsey.
Fire Nate McMillan & hire Jeff Van Gundy.
Sincerely,

Blake, Miller, and two first rounders for .... aaaa.....
a 90 year old center and a pg thats worse than both we’re sending out? LA got Camby for a second round pic. And he’s only a year younger than Juwan.
“Telfair has never been much of a PG but he is quick and can pass a bit but we only need a servicable back-up untill Rudy and Patty Mills get healthy.”
What happens when Rudy and Mills get back? I don’t think either bad back Rudy or our broke foot 5th string rookie are the answer at the 1.
I would much rather keep Andre… and trade Blake by himself.
No trade that the Blazers can make will make them a compettive team this year.
it just isn’t going to happen. Why rip up a team for nothing? I understand that folks expected better this season, but injuries happen, team chemistry isn’t a science and the universe is fairly random.
Other than the PG mess, which must be resolved, maybe with a trade, it makes no sense for Pritchard to deal from a position of desperation or weakness.
maybe we’ll get lucky and get to see bayless explode this year, maybe w’l see some good pay after the all star break when batum, rudy and outlaw return, but the season is what is. No amount of disappointment or outrage is going to change i.
How would the trade i suggest tear up our team?
I agree Camby is a rent-a-center but trading two guys, one of whom never really was apart of the team sept for the last 25 games(miller) and another guy who, while likeable is killing us and has never been a true quality starting PG……great back up not a great starter(Blake) for a very good defensive center and the ability to free J.B.
Maybe i see the vision of a Roy, Bayless backcourt in too rosey a light but i allways have thought that was our future until this year. My whole point was to jettison two players who are killing us and replacing them with our future at PG and a rent-a-center fill in for this year and possabley(if he resigns) next year depending on Odens injury and Pryz’s contract.
I agree that Miller may not be the best fit for the Clips but thats why you gotta love the old three team trade.

I mean honestly....
lets say the season is lost……would it not make sense to give Bayless all the run you could.
Or if the season isnt lost, Play Bayless……who lets face it has been our best PG this year so far….and see how well Roy and Bayless will mesh.
If they dont, trade him(if he performs and they dont mesh his value will be huge)……but one way or the other, Blake is gone after this year most likely and Miller will probly be moved this year from the sounds of things. Give bayless run! Camby would be a good addition and give us options as far as resigning him or Pryz.
Maybe im nuts though.

Camby is an expensive short term rental
If the Blazers thought adding Marcus Camby would make them a contender this year, then maybe they’d consider this trade, but that seems unlikely. Camby has an expiring contract, so we’d basically just be securing his services for this season. He’s an expensive short-term rental, a rent-a-center. Moreover, since he’s already an expiring contract, the Clippers aren’t going to give him up for just expiring contracts (i.e. Blake/Outlaw). They’ll want added value in the form of a young player or draft pick(s). It’s not clear that it’s worth either of those things to secure the services of a rent-a-center.

Bass is the guy that KP should have targeted to start with...
He doesn’t fit with the Orlando system and is getable.
Maybe they can use another 3 point ace, like Steve Blake, say???
