this road trip was a joke - KP make a move!

I can't believe we (the blazers) only went 1-3 on this road trip. Not only did we a blow a great lead against the Cavs we blew another great lead against the Bucks, and in overtime! This sucks! I am so frustrated and angry right now.

Can someone out there please explain to me why the hell Blake played 42 minutes. He shot  3 for 10 (1 for 7 from behind the arch) and contributed 1 assist. 1!!!

Then Andre Miller is playing 34 minutes shooting 2 for 12. Hey at least he added 7 assists, sadly it took two overtimes to do it.

Worst of all, we have those fools playing the majority of the 4th and two overtimes. Where was Webster? He was shooting the lights out. Where was Bayless? In 18 minutes he had 9 points and shot the ball extremely well.

I don't get it.

Pritchard, please do me and every other hardcore Blazer fan out there a huge favor and get rid of Blake and Miller. I'll take anyone. Well maybe not anyone.

Surely a gm of Pritchard's skill can at least get Hinrich and Gray from the Bulls by trading trading Miller, Blake and $3 mil cash (to buy out Blake's contract). The salaries are nearly identical. The Bulls will save $4 mil this year, and $2 mil the next to help with their free agent pursuits. And Miller comes off the books a year earlier than Hinrich.

Didn't a western conference scout say the Balzers needed a "mo williams type" to play in the back court with Roy. I think Hinrich can be that player. I know he isn't playing that well at the moment, but neither was Mo Williams when the Cavs traded for him. I think coming to Portland will be great for Hinrich ( he's a quality defender that can shoot the long ball) and the trade will also allow Bayless to play more minutes... which he definitely deserves. Plus Gray will help our depleted front line.

We should've grabbed Hinrich last year. I hope we don't blow another opportunity to get him again.

KP please make a trade!!!

Go Blazers!!!!!!

I heard something that I agree with that the Blazers should do. Trade Steve Blake, Andre Miller, Travis Outlaw, and next years 1st round pick to the Bulls for Aaron Gray, Tyrus Thomas, and Kirk Hinrich. I would love that. It helps you not only this season but for the next couple seasons.

by Aaron Sass on Dec 12, 2009 10:41 PM PST reply actions

you are totally gambling on our future

this team has succeeded based on chemistry…your trade takes away Roy’s security blanket, and Dre, who is the only person who has consistently brought the best out of Greg. This is a total gamble and if it doesn’t work out you have just traded away 1/3 of the playing rotation. We don’t need to be making massive moves…tinkering is all we need.

Gambling on our future?

Blake, miller and outlaw have nothing to do with our future! LMA, Roy, Oden. Thats it! Maybe bayless, rudy, and nic, but certainly not miller, bake and outlaw……..outlaw possibly, but not likely.

Yes our future

Taking Blake away from Roy, or taking Andre from Greg would probably hurt Roy and Greg’s game, at least in the short run. There is a reason why Blake is starting, and its to please Roy.

Bayless looks to score himself

His role has usually been drive to the hoop and score. I don’t recall him making a conscious effort to ever find Greg the ball the way Andre has.

Why would the Bulls want Blake and Miller whent they also have Rose?

I’d do the deal you proposed, but I doubt the Bulls would…

Hinrich is a more expensive Blake with somewhat better defense.

The key thing now is to see Rex get MUCH MORE time and to get Blake into the position he belongs — end of the bench pending his departure after this season as an unrestricted free agent to a team that needs a veteran backup.

Andre needs the keys to the car to show what he can do. But Bayless is the future……….

i hope bayless is the future

but i’m a lil worried about bayless in an expanded role if we don’t continue to win. we just need to win at all costs, and i hope we dont sacrifice any wins by putting bayless in. blake has been horrible and his play has not justified the minutes he has been given. 10 mins for rex would be cool, but i worry about playing him more than blake or andre.

Interesting comparison

In 07 Jack won the starting PG job coming out of fall camp, but was replaced early in the season by Blake because Steve outplayed him (or, perhaps because the lineup needed better “spacing”?)

In ’09 Blake has been outplayed by Miller and Bayless, yet has retained his starting job (so far)

So what has changed re: Nate’s “let the players decide” policy, besides the lofty preseason expectations?

When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

Hinrich is expensive

but you missed that he has solid handles and is a play maker. Plus is much better than “somewhat” on defense.

by skott75 on Dec 13, 2009 4:16 AM PST up reply actions

I completely agree. The Blazers have expected Andre to perform off the bench.

Which is competely ridiculous. How would YOU feel if you were him? Coming off the bench after Blake. Even after Blake plays miserably. Still Andre is coming off the bench. I get it that people think Bayless should play more. I can understand Bayless’s frustration at the amt of minutes he gets. But come ON…Andre has to be frustrated as well. He has been a starter his WHOLE career. He has EARNED this. He continues to do as well as I think he can be expected to do on a team that has come close to abusing him IMO. Miller can teach Bayless. He is a talented point guard who can make LA’s and Roy’s and Bayless’s game better. Much better. I am sick of how the coaches have handled the whole PG deal. I want Andre to get the keys, show us his game and show the rest of the team how to EASILY win.

Blake has had his chances. it's time to let him go

I don’t mean to disrespect any blazer fans out there. I love the Blazers. But if trading 1/3 of our playing rotation means getting rid of Blake and Miller then KP should make that move and make it quickly. Miller is too old, too slow, can’t play defence, and he definitely can’t shoot. And Blake… look at his stats. He sucks. End of story. Why is he playing so many minutes when he is that bad?

If we could get Hinrich and Gray for them that would be a definite upgrade. But that’s just my opinion. The Bulls aren’t going anywhere this season and if KP doesn’t make a trade soon, neither will the Blazers.

And to Aaron Sass, If KP were to aquire Ty Thomas by adding Outlaw and next years pick, well that would be unbelieveable. I would love that. That would be the trade of the year! Ty Thomas would be a brilliant player for the Blazers.

We need to make a major move. I don’t believe tinkering will help.

Make a move KP!!!

We’re hurting. I’m not saying write this season off but you can’t pull the trigger on a trade when its obvious it’s not going to be a title year in the best case.

i don't want us to get a pg right now

just play bayless extensive minutes to see if he can contribute for the future. he looks to be on the verge of breaking out, and a trade for a more established player like kirk would only stymie that development from jerryd.

with the high expectations we had prior to the season out the window, nate and his staff have essentially a clean slate to just experiment and evaluate talent. do it!

by CleBlazer on Dec 13, 2009 1:54 AM PST reply actions

to clarify,

i don’t want us to get a mediocre, stopgap PG like Hinrich right now. If we could land someone like Harris, I’m all for it.

by CleBlazer on Dec 13, 2009 1:58 AM PST up reply actions

Hinrich

is not a stop gap! He is a solid young pro who fits our system.

by skott75 on Dec 13, 2009 4:23 AM PST up reply actions

there is no way would we ever land harris. I'd love it if we could.

but I’m trying to think of a realistic trade that would benefit the Blazers. Hinrich isn’t mediocre. He’s just stuck behind derrick rose. He’s a sick defender and a way better player than both Miller and Blake.

And I definitely don’t think this season is lost. It wasn’t lost when Bynum went down for the Lakers in 08. They made it to the finals without him. Just because Oden went down it isn’t all doom and gloom. Joel is an awesome backup. And Roy and Aldridge are awesome players. Our only weakness, I believe, is at the pg slot. I think acquiring Hinrich will help the Blazers along with giving Bayless extended playing time, which he has proven he deserves. And adding Aaron Gray will help too.

Miller and Blake are definitely getting traded. I just hope it’s for someone good.

lol

any and every GM would deal with KP if they thought they were getting something they want back. GMs are NOT worried about getting “Pritchslapped”. If we don’t make a deal its because KP cant find a deal HE feels good about.

Purgatory for 2 more days

It’s abundantly clear that Miller’s about to go. They can’t trade him until Tuesday.

In a greater sense, this season has been punishment for Pritchard attempting to Pump-and-dump Andre Miller. Not only won’t he get a great return on value for Miller (that is, if other NBA GM’s are sane), but the Karma price will be the injuries to Outlaw, Oden, and Fernandez.

Ironically, the plan from KP was to hold on to Miller until a team desperate to reach the 6/7/8 playoff seeds needed a point guard upgrade – but as it turns out, we are that team and still need an upgrade. Steve Blake may be a backup, but he’s been no worse than Andre Miller.

by manzell on Dec 13, 2009 10:49 AM PST reply actions

not to mention, Miller has clearly outplayed Blake by a mile

Even at Miller’s worst, like last night against the Bucks, he still had a better game than Blake. And then look at how Miller played against the Cavs, very well. Compare their PER’s, Blake is in the single digits, at a little over 9, which is horrible, and Miller is almost at 16, which is one of the best on the team, even though it’s worse than he’s had on an other team and has had work through all the difficulties that coaching has put him through.

I dont want Hinrich

Thats the worst idea ever—no offense to anyone who thinks we should land him.

To me, what we “NEED” isnt available and so therefore, Bayless surely deserves to get more play. And Miller deserves a chance to start before we go making any trade with him.

And since you were pointing out some stats, I thought I would scope out the box score myself. I missed the game last night after the first quarter, but the Boxscore says alot. First of all, Brandon is just not playing up to any kind of All Star game right now. This guy should have put up like 50 points in a double overtime game, 23 is just lousy. I mean, Lebron gets triple doubles in 48minutes of play, Brandon barely scores 20 a game, and I cant remember his last 10 rebs or 10 assists in a game. And as for LMA, he played the most minutes with 52min. Now, I cant take away from his double double, 31 points and 11 rebs and nothing else. No ast, no stl and no blocks. 31 points is great but I still feel like they can score 31 in a 48 minute game. When you have 2 overtimes and neither of your stars step up, thats a bummer.

I will say that I expected this road trip to be a harsh one. Our guys are down in the dumps, they are beat mentally right now. They are human, not superhuman, and you can only take so much crap before you break. Our team isnt even the same team we all thought wed be playing with right now. And not only our we missing major key players, our coaches and owner is sick and injured to. Thats alot to have happen in a short period of time. And now they all are starting to show some signs of its effect on them.

I feel at this point a trade wouldnt help us out unless it was exactly the right trade, and that just isnt available right now. For me, I say give Miller a shot a starting and see if he can turn things around. Its really our only option. And give Bayless more run as well, hes played hard and deserves it. Blake and Bayless should divide up their playing time with the 2nd unit.
