Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

So I am trying to find Info on how our Euros are doing this year, Freeland, Claver, Petri. what website would give you their most recent stat line, also what is Clavers injury status? and do we still have the rights to Freeland or did we loose those?

I'm not aware of a Claver injury.

Freeland is injured though.

And we do still have his draft rights.

Not sure where to get their stats though. (I’ve heard Koponen has been playing excellent Basketball as of late)

Freeland played today

in a win.

To follow the Spaniards, go to http://acb.com/ – it’s a great site with stats and a sister site that will give you video highlights. It is all in Spanish, though.
Freeland’s team is Unicaja Malaga. Claver’s team is Power Electronics (!) Valencia, who also won today.

It’s a bit harder to get stuff on Koponen – this site is good for all Euro games, and you click on “Italy”. His team is confusingly called both Virtus Bologna and La Fortezza. They lost today.

Hope that helps!

You can check the current stats of most interesting players in Europe on DraftExpress, too

We still have the rights of all of them, but none of them will want to come over unless they get pretty much guaranteed playing time. Especially Freeland and Claver who have good long-term contracts in Spain that pay them more than the rookie scale deals. There is a slight loophole in the current CBA that teams can use cap space or – though that is not confirmed by a team since it hasn’t been done but by several sources – the MLE to give a player more than his rookie scale if he is signed to a 3-year deal to make it more attractive to come over. The Spurs will likely test that out next summer with Tiago Splitter, currently the best center in Europe or at the very least top 3. So they along with the Blazers, Wolves, Magic, maybe Pacers have an interest in keeping the rules that way. Still I wouldn’t expect any one of them over until a player currently on their position leaves the team in free agency or via trade.

Miller - Roy - Webster - Aldridge - Przybilla. Is that so hard?

Addendum: That loophole only comes into effect if a first round pick does not sign with the team that drafted him for 3 years. In Freeland’s case that would be true as of now (last summer), for Claver and Koponen not yet.

Victor has been compared to Dunleavy Jr. Unless he bulks up (unlikely, see Rudy) it’s hard to imagine Claver playing any position other than SF, in the NBA. There would appear to be an obvious PT conflict between VC and Batum, going forward.

So, does that make Victor trade bait? It’s not like “if Nic gets hurt again” KP can convince Victor to hop on a plane and join the Blazers at midseason in years to come

Maybe when Martell is done with his contract we bring over Claver

and use the loophole to sign him for more then the Rookie scale.

Webster's contract, according to storyteller's site

(side note: we haven’t heard from the ol’ storyteller lately…)

Martell is signed for guaranteed money through 2011-2012…

2012-13 is partially guaranteed for $600,000 if he’s waived before 7/1/12, fully guaranteed after that.

Regardless of Webster’s future status, I’m hoping that a healthy/productive Batum is playing 30+ mpg as early as next season, and if he does Claver and his agent may not feel it’s in Victor’s “best interest” to come over and play “leftover minutes” for Portland. That could lead KP to entertain trade offers for VC’s rights

I have to say that of the three, I'm least enthused by Claver

He just doesn’t seem to have a game that will translate. He’s a tweener, and he only shoots threes or dunks (hey – sounds a bit like Rudy!)
I also worry about Freeland’s defense.
So… I am probably alone in being most interested in Koponen, in part because I see him as a point who can play the Blake role with more size and overall talent. I doubt he would be a good PG on a regular team, because he’s not a pure point, but it seems to me he would work well alongside Roy. And at least he’s a better PG than Bayless (as was obvious when they played together in Summer League).

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
