Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Batum: "I'm on time, even ahead of schedule. If it continues like this, I will be able to come back in February, just after the All-Star break. That will give me 30 games to play. I'm getting ready to play a "Pro A" season, two and a half months."

Regarding future competitions with France: "It won't be so easy in the future. The World Championships (2010 in Turkey) should be fine, but Euro 2011, maybe not."

Good to hear

I want to hear Wheels say “Batum Shaka Laka” before too much longer.

Great news.

No need to rush thing though. Last thing we need is an early comeback followed by another surgery.

God bless Batum, everyone!

Batum.

There is hope for the future.

I’m glad he is feeling ready to go soon, and I’m even more glad to hear that he is thinking about not playing in some international competitions.

I don't think that's how you should interpret it

He’s talking about whether Portland will let him play for France or not. I only translated the quotes, there was a bit more to the article:

Confronted with numerous absences, his club are impatiently awaiting his return. But the Blazers’ staff are letting Batum come back at his own pace, he who started his rehab after getting out of his splint last week. For all that, the Blazers don’t seem disposed to accept everything. After the episode last summer with “les Bleus,” and the trip to Portland Batum took in the middle of the qualifications for the Euros, Portland will undoubtedly return to its politics in the future. “It won’t be so easy in the future,” he explains, referring to the upcoming international competitions with the French team. “The World Championships (2010 in Turkey) should be fine, but Euro 2011, maybe not.”

I originally left that part out because it seemed to be pure conjecture on the journalist’s part, no idea where exactly “the Blazers don’t seem disposed to accept everything” is coming from. As far as I know, the Blazers have always let their international players play, unlike say the Bulls or Mavs.

Time to re-think that policy

WAY past time, I’d say. Everyone’s saying how snakebit the Blazers have been this season. But out of the four major injuries—to GO, Trout, Batum, & Rudy—two were to guys who may well have been fine this season had they gotten normal rest. Both reportedly initially hurt themselves last NBA season, and both never completely recovered. Gee, I wonder why?

I was born in '52, and I believe in #52. Hang in there, GO.

by hurryup09 on Dec 11, 2009 4:01 PM PST up reply actions

Not only that,

but Pau Gasol, Tony Parker, Hedo Turkoglu, Boris Diaw, and Ronny Turiaf have all had injuries ranging from nagging to serious in nature this year. Playing Euroball before the NBA season is a bad idea if you want to stay healthy.

Thanks for clarifying.

Well, I’m glad someone isn’t sure about him playing in all of the international championship.

Either way:

Bayless, Roy, Batum, LMA, Przy: Not a bad starting lineup.

Batum makes plays all over the court. And he's a year older & more mature than the guy we saw last season

His loss has been major—much greater than most Blazer fans anticipated.

*apologies in advance for anyone I am possibly offending.

52 + 88 = 140% better team.

by xedubx on Dec 12, 2009 1:05 PM PST up reply actions

Great news.

This could be a good opportunity for Batum to develop his offensive skills, too. There are more shots free for the taking than can be expected at any other time. Lets hope Batum heals up nicely and is ready to step in and make a push for the playoffs.

That will give me 30 games to play. I’m getting ready to play a “Pro A” season, two and a half months

I misunderstood this at first reading, and thought Nic was saying he was getting ready to play a Euro summer league schedule

just to make sure it's clear

he’s referring to the French domestic league, Pro A, where each team plays each other twice, obviously leading to a much shorter league season.

once batum learns to create his own shot

ppl don’t key on him like a roy or miller, or even blake bc of how little they know him.

Wait...

February is early? I thought he was already coming back in February. Betcha Rudy doesn’t come back until Feb also.

I love Batum's play and the Blazers have obviously missed him GREATLY. I want him to

return ONLY when he is fully recovered. Didn’t Blake have some kind of shoulder surgery?

Can’t ait to see Nic take the court again in a Blazer uni.

Return w/ Good Health Please

New guy here that’s been lurking and enjoying Blazersedge A LOT!!! So now, I’m one of you.

I’d love to see #88 back on the parquet floor @ the RG and on the road. What I’d really like to see is #88 fully healthy and ready to go – while refraining from playing Euroball.
