They appear to love everybody on the Rockets
Aaron Brooks? Trevor Ariza? I’m not sure they should even be ON the ballot.
we have failed?
hardly. Anyone who thinks any Blazer will every seriously challenge for a starting spot in the current system of fan voting is delusional, nothing more.
There is just far too much working against us in general, and against Roy in particular. For this year
1) Roy’s performance has hardly been awe inspiring
2) the team’s way underperforming in regards to expectations
3) We play in the out of the limelight west coast, 3 hours later than Eastern time, and thus many voters probably never see our games
4) We play at a slow methodical pace that deflates our players’ raws statistical output in relation to other teams’ players’ – and like it or not, the vast majority of voters will look at raw per game stats (if they even look at stats in voting to begin with)
5) none of our players have big national endorsement contracts and/or get widestream media attention.
Trying to vote any Trail Blazer into the starting lineup in the all star game will alway be a serious uphill battle, and is all but the most ideal conditions, be a completely fruitless excercise in futility. Even Clyde only got voted to start ONE all star game in all his years as a Blazer – and that wasn’t even close to his best season, just happened to be in which he got a lot of attention (1991-92). Not to mention that was well before online and international voting. In today’s system, the only way we get a starter is if we have a well-known, established guy who is getting major national and international exposure. We haven’t had one of those since Walton.
How did you guys win that?

forgot to mention
6) population demographics. Houston is (I believe) the 3rd largest Metro area in the United States. Portland is around #20 or so. Huge difference. Plus, they have the “Chinese vote” going for them still. Even though Yao isn’t on the ballot, don’t think for a minute that there aren’t a big chunk of Chinese fans still watching Houston play and still voting for Yao’s teammates.

The only player of ours who has a chance of EVER being voted an All-Star starter
Is probably Oden if he becomes at all dominant, once Yao retires.
I think even if we won a title say, Roy still wouldn’t get voted a starter.

Maybe your right
but look at the amount of total votes they have recieved so far!
Roy 106,416
Oden 73,873
LMA 70,588
We can all vote more than once, (although online it is one pre day I believe) and Portland has way more than 100,000 people in the metro area, with the majority of them being at least casual fans of the Blazers. I am guessing that most Blazer fans would vote for all 3, so the additonal 30K votes for Roy are most likely from other areas of the Nation, which is pretty good for a guy playing in the NW. But the fact that 30% of his total votes could be coming from outside of Portland is a failure on our part as fans.

LA has also way more than 300k people, and still that's about as much as a Lakers player gets nationally (Bynum)
Who would have easily beaten Oden even when healthy in voting. As predicted it wasn’t even close. Kobe has huge international following, not the least of which in China.
but what's the point?
expending time and energy on a fruitless cause is a waste of resources…

As long as Yao plays for the Rockets, their players will always score votes.
It pays to play for China’s favorite team. I wouldn’t say Blazer fans have failed though, judging on this year alone, Roy and Aldridge don’t honestly deserve to be all-stars.
