Jermaine Oneal can go to heck

putting his finger to hsi mouth to silence the crowd in the 4th. Yeah good riddens buddy

Land Rondo.

"He needs to realize that he can't stop every shot, especially from a smaller and offensively potent player. Get your hands up, make him shoot it over you, but let him shoot every once in a while. They score a little but you stay in the game a lot. And when you stay in the game...smashy smashy!" Dave on Greg Oden

I HATE it when players do that.

Gets under my skin. But I suppose that’s why they do it. We don’t like it. He’ll be long retired when Oden starts dominating.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

"Long retired when Oden starts dominating"

O’Neal won’t retire for a few more seasons maybe… and then once he has been LONG retired, THEN Oden starts dominating?!

Man! I hopes yo’ prediction ain’t true!

Yeah

He’s getting better by the game. Too bad the rest of the team wasn’t following suit.

mega-beast of a game

he looked great, he looked intense, he looked strong and fleet. He defended two guys in the post 4 or 5 times and they got nothing on him…

You know it was a bad call when Nate takes a T....

"Rudy is not everyday a shooter," Fernandez said. "He's defense. He's passes. He's assists."

Nate was really cursing

Watching that video muted, one can clearly see Nate drop an F-bomb and one other profanity just by reading lips. Way to stand up to the stinking refs Nate.

Nah

All I saw was “that was a flopping foul” and “that call was boosted”

by jiminut on Dec 2, 2009 10:46 AM PST up reply actions

I left to go to the gym after this foul. I'd rather play basketball than watch the Blazers fall apart against the heat.

Oden is the only reason I’ve even been watching the games this year, and the refs don’t even let him play. Blazers need to get it together. Glad Nate got a T, finally standing up for his players.

by BRoyInThe4th on Dec 2, 2009 12:10 AM PST reply actions

I kinda felt the same way too.

Last year I almost expected Oden to play poorly and welcomed it when I didn’t have to worry about him getting any more fouls. Prz was more than capable and the team seemed to flow much better with Oden out last year. That isn’t to say I wasn’t an Oden supporter (all blazer fans are), he just seemed so sad and that carried over into my viewing.

As for this year, Greg is the lone bright spot. I really wish that he continues the way he has; he seems like a good guy.

I hope Brandon comes back. :(

Tim Donaghy on 60 minutes This Sunday

Well maybe this will bring a little more attention to these BS calls by the refs. I was glad to see Nate take a T , but would have rather seen Greg confront the offical and get a T to show the rest of those napoleonic whistle blowers that he has had enough. Heat players twice jumped on his back to try and block his shot and no call.

Atrocious call

Completely inexplicable. What rational interpretation of that play was an Oden foul?

6 foul rule gives the refs too much power to affect the game. One atrocious call, and Oden has to sit most of the first half. That alone may have swung this game in favor of the Heat.

Calls like this make me support JVG’s movement to do away with the 6 foul disqualification rule. Love the ABA’s version of the rule – all fouls for a player above 6 result in a technical. What’s the downside of that rule? I love everything about it.

Q: Is Greg favoring his knee?
Frye: He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors.

Only worse call was when Martell drew the charge

on Beasley at the end of the quarter and got called for blocking.

that was a textbook-perfect charge-taking, couldn’t have been any better. Instead of the TO, Heat get 2 points to end the quarter.

Isn’t it free gregoden, or something?

by kobisportsguy on Dec 2, 2009 8:52 AM PST reply actions

to be honest, i don't think he got hosed...

from that angle, it was the right call by the ref…GO got hosed by a veteran move by Jermaine

GO needs to unlock his arms with the defender once it gets to that point

lets go brandon!!!!

by broyposse on Dec 2, 2009 10:18 AM PST reply actions

nah

that was O’Neal’s foul all the way, Greg did the right thing and the ref is an idiot

by sparks89 on Dec 2, 2009 10:28 AM PST up reply actions

Double fouls. O'Neal skakted, Oden got nailed.

Nope, crap call. GO does need to learn to sell it with some exaggerated flailing rather than responding by pulling JO out of the key, but that absolutely should have been on JO or at least both. The elbow into Gregs collar to push him out may be a “veteran move”, but it’s also a foul.

What sucked about that play was that GO had position where the ball ended up bouncing, so instead of another possession, Miami gets it plus Greg gets foul trouble because refs miss/ignore the obvious blatant initial contact.

by shralpster on Dec 2, 2009 11:45 AM PST up reply actions

selling

Huge guys have a hard time selling fouls. Greg’s shown he can man up and destroy just about any center in the L. He doesn’t need to flail around.

Scott Foster called that foul (and Greg's first)
The records show Donaghy placed 134 calls to referee Scott Foster — more than the 126 calls Donaghy made to his bookie — between October 2006 and April 2007, the period during which he has confessed to either betting on games or passing on game information to gamblers. The majority of the phone calls lasted no more than two minutes and occurred prior to and after games Donaghy officiated and on which he admits wagering.

Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Rudy, Batum, Outlaw, Webster, Bayless, Blake, Miller, Joel... Holy crap!

Two fouls on Greg within the first 2:55

really set the tone for the game. I’m not saying we lost cause of bad calls, it just would have been nice to have had Oden in there for the rest of the quarter. Bah!

by beeroy on Dec 3, 2009 12:42 PM PST reply actions

By "rest of the quarter" you mean, of course, the next 3:05 that Oden would have been on the floor until his scheduled sit-down by Nate at the 6 minute mark...

Nate should get a T for consecutive games on Oden's behalf.

I think this will finally get their attention. The Greg Oden hazing has got to stop. I’m wondering if the refs are making for lost time in response to criticisms of their Shaq bias?

by Stryder9 on Dec 3, 2009 2:29 PM PST reply actions

yea that was un necessary

should have been a no call, oneal and oden are physical down low, better let them play physical instead of calling wishy washy fouls

by Yawnie on Dec 3, 2009 11:26 PM PST reply actions

Either a no call, or a double foul. I think the latter is actually the "correct" call...

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
