Roy is a combo guard.
Help me dispel this feeling that I have. I feel like Roy should play more time at PG, and maybe even start there. As much as I love Blake, moving Roy into a greater roll at PG would increase the space that Martell, Rudy, and Batum desperately need for their continued development at SG and SF. Andre, of course, would play the point more time, but Blake would be all but phased out. I know that Roy doesn't really like playing the point, and I don't have time to discuss rotations, etc. (which is why this is a fanshot), but PLEASE tell me why this won't work so I can get my mind off it.

Don't get confused.
Just because Roy initiates the plays at the end of the game, does NOT mean he’s necessarily a point guard. He doesn’t really have a point guard’s mentality. He initiates plays, therefore he’s a playmaker.

I've considered this quite a bit myself
There’s a big difference between running the point and driving and dishing each play. The team already follows Roy as a leader, not difficult to see him stepping up as a floor general as well. The mentality is of course the issue, but is it impossible to see him playing as a pass first combo guard (Chris Paul comes to mind no matter how much I try to ignore it)? Harder then Bayless? Along with defense, this could be Roy’s next step into superstar status. Roy already figured out last year that he can he can draw so much attention he can take one step and pass for a wide open 3. Even going pass first, Roy is going to get his points regardless.
Defense is an issue as well, we don’t want him chasing around the quicker point guards every play. Thats why he needs to be matched up with a scoring off-guard that can play D and shoot the 3. If Bayless develops his 3 pt. shot (40% in college i believe) he could fill that role very well. Patty Mills might become that player as well. Any combo of bayless, roy, patty, and rudy would be beautiful. Plus a late game defensive lineup of roy-martell-batum-aldridge-oden is just scary as judgedridge mentioned. That or an all-out offensive juggernaut of roy-rudy-martell-aldridge-oden.
If Roy decideds he wants to become a pass first combo guard, I see no reason why he couldnt do it, he IS “The Natural” after all. The only problem I see is Nate and his PG fetish. Obviously I have yet to even mention a true point guard, as I believe we don’t need one. But, if Roy proves it by developing an in-out game with Oden (priority 1 imo) and actually running the offense, he can use his superstar status and close contact with nate to sway him over.

Fatigue and speed
Towards the end of last season fatigue was an issue already. Can you imagine how much worse it would be if he had to chase around someone like Aaron Brooks most of the game? Brandon can be very quick in short bursts, but can’t be expected to hold that kind pace consistently .

Blake would be all but phased out
Mention this to Brandon, Nate or KP and they’ll give you a puzzled look. Like it doesn’t compute

"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

Think of
I would argue that Brandon is one of the quickest guys on the team. He’s no Bayless in terms of quickness, but he is a better defender. Also, regardless of who he is defending he is going to have to put forth considerably more effort than he did last year, on the defensive end, if he honestly thinks he can make the all defensive team. He should be seeing less playing time once Miller better understands our system anyway, especially against weaker opponents.
I love Blake, but with the depth of talent that this team has it makes me ache that Roy can’t play 15-20 at point guard to allow our SF’s and SG’s more time to improve. The defensive combination of Roy, Martell, Batum, Aldridge, and Oden has to make your mouth water.
