Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

No surprise here and no change to the starting lineup tomorrow night, but Jason Quick writes that Nate McMillan is considering starting Andre Miller...

"Miller says he is merely a habitually slow starter. Whatever the reason, he hasn't looked like the player who has been one of the NBA's steadiest point guards the past 10 years, and McMillan says it is his job as coach to solve the problem.

"We gotta get more there," McMillan said."

If Blake doesn’t start hitting, I say Bayless should get 10-15 mpg to show what he can do

What is Blake's field goal percentage this year thus far?

mid thirties

hitting 39% from three but both rudy and martell are doing better from there as well so I would rather have them in there than Blake.

Nate, don't consider it, do it.

Blake will be good coming off the bench when we need some threes, and he can reunite with Przy. Miller to Oden/Roy/LMA FTW! Do it now!

LMA got PAID!!!!

YES.

A point guard who can pass as well as Miller creates space on the floor in other ways than 3 point shooting. Mainly, players who execute plays will be rewarded by receiving a dime most of the time. Bigs will get more touches etc. Basically, the best way to create a fluid offense is to give players an incentive to run a fluid offense by having someone out there who is going to see them.

As an added bonus, motion on the offensive end will likely ensure less of Miller going one-on-one with the shot clock running out, which is just NOT his game. We’ve got Outlaw, Rudy, and Brandon to do that. Bayless too, although he has yet to be sighted yet this year. Is B-Rex extinct?

I know it doesn't exactly work like this but in theory

I really would like to see this:

first unit – miller, roy, webster, LA, oden
second unit – blake, bayless, rudy, outlaw, przy

Second unit would have some defensive deficiencies but I still think those are two great teams to run out there.

Thats a great crunch time unit

I was more thinking of who’s starting and who is coming off the bench – I’m sure there would be a lot of interchanging between the two units (this is Nate after all)

If you are talking starting unit too I don’t think moving Roy to the 3 from the first whistle is the best idea – too much chance of him getting worn down by defending and being defended by bigger players. Martell brings a big body and some better D than rudy in the starting unit.

My only concern with this is...

We might have a scenario where Miller decides not to defer to Roy in crucial situations. We all know Roy is the man, but I worry that this move might cause problems.

Other than that I agree wholeheartedly.

Blazers win!

star Brandon Roy wondering whether he needs to approach McMillan and ask to have the ball in his hands more…
Roy said he was not ready to move forward in demanding the ball — but he acknowledged he is wrestling with the concept.

Please Brandon, don’t do this. Two years ago, it was a great idea and it worked. But now, things have changed. Sure, the Blazers playing even more “Give Roy the ball and let him go 1 on 1” might give us a few more wins in the short term, but it’s fools gold come playoff time. Brandon, figure out how to work off the ball more and how to play in a more multi-faceted offense. That is what is going to take you where you want to go.

How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.

Wouldn't it be nice if Miller played like a starter and made it obvious that he should be starting

I wasn’t able to see any preseason, but to this point, Miller hasn’t looked good enough to matter whether he starts. This is the biggest non-issue facing the team right now, and the biggest facade on BE since Nate Gate circa yesterday.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
